Dont agree mate they said they would announce yesterday what was going on with the remainder of the jumping races and they never announced anything...hard to defend the undefensable ...if you say you gonna do something then you should do it...I am sure  you would agree with me on that.

How do you or anyone know that they have not spoken to those who have indicated they are coming, that’s the noms so far and they don’t officially close till tomorrow!!

  2. The first and third days are scheduled to be run, all races, on the main course proper

The second days flat races are on the poytrack, jumps races during the week, if run, will be on the grass.

If races were today it would be on a very heavy, sodden course proper, we had a heap of rain again last night. It's sunny but cold here now, no drying ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

A bit of rain predicted Tuesday, temperatures predicted 14 to 16 all week so should improve. Then the rain comes again and again.

Will not be racing for the faint of heart, will be very wet on the main track and as you have noticed it will cut out very quickly

  3. 8 jumping events over the 3 days, 4 hurdle, 4 chase races. it will be very interesting how these fields fill up, or not. I hope for the jumping trainers that travel, and they all have to, that there are sufficient numbers to run each event. A hurdle and 2 steeples the first day, if any don't go ahead should they add a maiden race to the day, making it the 10 races the license on the day has been allocated. Same applies for 2nd and 3rd days of this carnival.

2 hurdles, one 0-2  chase second day no rating 74 flat races over any distance, lose a jumps race put on a R74 Second day where flat races run on AWT

I am sure they will be rolling out the red carpet for Nelson, Dummy, Wheels, Cunningham, etc and so they should, they may need to do more than that, or run more flat races

I don't know if I'm seeing something that's not there but......... please correct me if I'm wrong but......... I watched the replays for Riccarton gallops on the synthetic and it appeared to me that on more than one occasion the horses were not comfortable on in, particularly in the home straight, to my eye they were not keen to completely let down.

Jockeys, trainers and owners please clarify this for me??!!!!

Go watch any replays with the same intent you watched these races. It is the same most race days on a variety of surfaces. I am sure plenty of horses - let down - okay

Oh so is that why the so called South Island's leading trainer wasn't at Trentham chasing the $10k South Island Trainers bonus? Had he already thrown his toys out of the cot when the bonus was announced maybe?

Its okay RICHARD you can have as many goes at me as you like I have been the leading trainer for many years and my son Matthew and I continue to be, fact - not so called!! With close to 2000 winners out of our stable I am very proud of our achievements as a family based business, which includes our rock, my wife Diane.

The $10,000 SI trainers bonus was announced many months ago, you may not have known that, I certainly did!! In fact I was told (even) well before it was announced.

I did not throw any toys out of the cot I made a judgement call that it was not in our stables interest to support this years WRC CUP carnival, especially after the pathetic compensation NZTR gave to those owners so badly treated when the Wellington Meeting was abandoned. That is the connections of both Okay Pal and Miss Tycoon Rose who have some nice races in South Island to target and we may venture North at a later date this season.

I explained to my equal partner in Okay Pal that if we went a blinder and ran second to either of the two top class mares that were favoured to win it, our future would be limited

CASE IN POINT,  Roch "N" Horse has gone from a rating of 86 to now being a rating of 96, a massive 10 point increase in rating points. THE FOURTH HORSE -CAN I GET AN AMEN- GOT 4 POINTS AND WENT FROM 77 TO 81!!!!!!

Now Richard, you may not understand rating and handicapping, I'm sure with your limited intellect you don't, but I DO!!! One L J Molloy will vouch for me!!!!

So what rating would Okay Pal have got if he managed to run second off a rating of 79 would he have gone up 17 points, probably

AND unless you ran in the first two it wasn't worth the exercise, my wife Diane won the rating 65 at Waikouaiti and received only $2,375 less than the 3rd place getter in the Gp 1, The open handicap winners at Waikouaiti received $500 more than the 3rd place getter in the Telegraph, Seikrid is now a rating 67 horse, she also got 4 points but close to $9000 more than Can I Get An Amen received for its fourth placing.

I have no beef at all with WRC, I spoke with Des Coppins about this, I and our owners looked at the overall picture and decided it is in our horses and our owners interest to stay home and support the good racing coming up in the South Island. Considering the trainers prize would have been selfish on our part, so it was never considered.

I can assure you RICHARD, that our results at Waikouaiti, a club that has been a big part of our South Island's leading trainer position for many years, were very rewarding, considerably more than the $10,000 trainers prize on offer spread over the three days which now is over two weeks

PS Richard Cranium suits you ferry why don't you tell us who you are instead of taking potshots at the South Islands so called leading trainer.

  6. Hi

Most of those horses requiring a 2000m (or 1800m) maiden, there will not be many, are probably ex Northerners any way

Unfortunately Gore has no starting point between 1335 and 1800m

As this is the first race meeting in Southland since when ever the programme meeting group, which does have Southland representation, would have decided 1335m was far enough

Gore 24th September has 8 races programmed, I don't think any club has restrictions to only run 7 races. Only lack of horses produces 7 race programmes in SI, if 7 races have been programmed can you advise where and when, thanks.

Any one know what happened to the South Islands leading stable over the Grand National Carnival?

One winner early on day one and they went on record saying they had targeted the carnival rather than trying to win the South Island premiership and it was all go ,,,,but then,,,,fizzzzz, nothing more???

WHO ARE YOU ? be honest tell us who you are and your achievements in racing. Ours are well documented

I said we kept a couple of horses back for this carnival one was first day winner Carson River- you beauty!!!, but like most people didn't envisage bottomless 11 heavy track each day!!!

We are not keen on winter race meetings, every one with any knowledge of racing knows that. The AWT, which is fantastic, may change that.

Show me and others that you are not a total stirrer, why don't you post results of recent NZ Cup Week from our team, that's right Wayne Kerr or are you just stirring like always you weak specimen hiding behind Fermoy

    Regards

    Michael Pitman

  8. Ask me any question you like

what do I have to answer to

Not the bull shit and lies that tosser keeps saying on the other site

All tracks all over the world are different but I would suggest with poly tracks there will be some consistency

  9. I hear the tosser on the other site is doing what he does bestLies and negativity

The leading stable has NOT based itself at Rangiora for at least 3 years!! It gets the best barn and best facilities Riccarton can provide

  10. I know the tosser that has all the uninformed say on the other chat site reads this - he will prove it by his negative comments after reading this!!

The laying of the polytrack began on Friday Reid Sanders and his Australian foreman Matt Chase flew in to Christchurch Thursday ( I had a meeting with them, Tim Mills and Rene Neilson Thursday arvo) and the track should be fully laid and in use before the end of August. I had a good look at it Saturday morning and it looks great.  We will have one of the very best AWT due to shape, size and length of home straight

I believe work begins on Awapuni very soon, possibly next week!!!

So all the tossers can look on say all the negative shit they want to but it’s all go!!

  11. Laurie Laxon

Not only was Laurie a great trainer, here, Aussie and Singapore he was also a great bloke.

I first met Laurie when he trained Noble Heights to win the 1000 Guineas and I have often thought of the chat we had and the advice he gave me.

To his family, our sincere condolences, racing has lost one of its most respected and greatest characters a real achiever who never overlooked any one

  12.

One racing club that is obviously thriving is the Southland Racing Club. They must be traveling extra good.

I was advised this week they are sponsoring local rugby THE STAGS for thousands of dollars. This will be good for local rugby but I wonder how other race day sponsors will view this.

That's very true over here - there is no dedicated "form" expert anymore in the way there was with Jim McGrath of Timeform.

For the jump racing, the recently-retired Ruby Walsh, with his connections to the Mullins yard, is very much in demand as a race reader and analyst. Sir Anthony McCoy is actually superb but he's far more acerbic and with a much drier wit and that often clashes with the bonhomie of host Ed Chamberlain. Two other ex-jockeys, Mick Fitzgerald and Luke Harvey, back up the coverage and obviously bring their knowledge of jump racing while Alice Plunkett (married to 3-day eventer William Fox-Pitt) talks to the tweed set at Cheltenham.

In the summer, we have Francesca Cumani looking at the horses with ex-jockey Jason Weaver (who does some excellent analysis over on Sky Sports Racing) while Johnny Murtagh, who was a jockey, is now a trainer and has always kept well in with Coolmore, provides the Irish angle. To be fair, Aidan O'Brien (and John Gosden) are both incredibly open and approachable in interviews which isn't and hasn't always been the case with some of the more established trainers.

Will Frankie Dettori be a pundit once he retires? He's a media natural - far more than Ryan Moore for example but the younger generation of jockeys are all very media savvy.

I think having a form analyst outside the weighing room would be helpful - Rishi Persad is a sporting all-rounder but clearly knows and loves his racing and it's interesting he led the betting coverage at Epsom rather than Matt Chapman.

ITV also have a thing called "the social stable" which utilises all social media formats to expand awareness of and interest in racing. It's fronted by Oli Bell (nephew of a trainer) and Chris Hughes (ex apprentice rider and better known in the UK for "Love Island").

Hayley Turner fits in a bit of punditry with her riding and we also now have Natalie Green, Adele Mulrennan (wife of jockey) and Leona Mayor (ex-jockey) among a few others who appear occasionally.

It's a bit overblown but most of the "minor" players ply their trade on Racing UK and Sky Sports Racing. The former has Nick Luck, who might have become the ITV lead host had they not decided Ed Chamberlain, who was a football presenter on Sky, would be a better fit for the all-round element of the coverage.

When at Ascot I did a Sunday morning interview with Nick Luck, what a very nice knowledgable bloke he is. He had done plenty of research and even had video clips of us working Sensei at the beach which he showed on his ‘Luck on Sunday’ show

Thats the type of programme we need here

Has anyone got an update on Sensei?  Michael Pitman said when Sensei was retired that the intention was to try to give him a chance at stud.  He was a well related, talented sprinter and would be a welcome addition our stallion list as he brings some new blood lines, through Dream Ahead, that should cross well with some of our current mares.

Sensei left our stables this arvo on his way to Queensland where he will be standing at a fee of $5,500.

It was very sad to see him go, I would have love to see him given his chance locally but because he was South Island trained may have not been considered 'exotic' enough

People may not realise that he was a Sydney Easter Yearling Sales purchase who was a dual Listed Race winner and Group1 placed race horse, from a family that has produced 2 Golden Slipper winners in Sepoy and Canny Lad. His immediate family has produced 8 Stallions which have sired Stakes winning progeny and Sensei himself is a half brother to Rothesay who at his first year at stud was crowned Australian Champion First Season Sire by winners. Rothesay is the sire of Group one winning 2 year old Rothfire.
