    My late father Brian Hazelton Sullivan took up racehorse training in Matamata in 1948 on Mangawhero Road and was successful with a number of horses over the years. Whynot, Sonnetary, Rabaul, Crimson King (won the Wellington Cup in 1953) to mention just a few. His apprentice jockey Sonny Haitana also enjoyed success. Dad trained horses for Hughie McCarvill, The Hon. Stan Goosman, the Corbett family among others, Kind regards Geraldine Merrylees.
