Not an easy game buying weanlings but Adrian Clarke's record is outstanding.

I'm not really invested in the harness, so don't know either of those folk to look at them. Used to live at Alex Park in my teens, 20s and thirties. Lost the bug somewhere, somehow, more interested in the thoroughbreds these days.

I must have been standing 50m away from you, I stood at the base of the old public stand. I thought the Purdon's team drove to win that final.

Thats sad news, I'd missed his passing. I loved watching him drive, especially the champ Franco Ice

Might be coincidence but Wexford team seems to have gone really well since Paul came back from HKG. He always had a good eye for yearlings from what i noted over many years at sales.

Was at Tauherenikau today - great crowd sure good weather helped but everyone seemed to be having a great time with their picnics and gazebos. Good racing too even if the track firmed up with 32+ degrees and a slight wind.
    Great country racing atmosphere!

Super Seth with two first crop winners before Christmas, who then ran 2nd & 4th in the Wakefield. He came back in the autumn to beat Melody Belle in the Futurity, so in his career he beat more than just Alligator Blood and some dross.
35k is probably overs, but Waikato Stud and overs are synonyms to me as far as advertised stud fees go. And if they did pay ~$15m (which is entirely plausible given the stallion market nowadays) then they need that sort of fee for the deal to make sense.
I like him and there's every chance he can make 35k look cheap in the future. And for the good of the industry we need people with the balls to have a crack with quality stallion prospects, so I won't be knocking anyone for spending big piles of their own money on horses they think can improve the breed in NZ.

For those watching the sales, what have people made of Guy's interviews? I personally like him, natural.

The race is no longer scheduled correctly, just two weeks after the Railway and the prospect of an 8 hour float trip from Cambridge.

Well done Dopey on another nice win. She looks to have strengthened and you should be in for a good prep.

If money is not generated, any business, it will not survive.
By having very good, vibrant R To R Sale it gives breeders another very good option for their business.

Mill Reef reacted to Insider in Super Seth debut winner - from the number 22 Eulogy family
I am wondering; where does he get his shape and colour from?
Is it from the second dam of his sire Super Seth being Rory's Jester, as that is what he looks like to me,
    OR
Is it from the second dam sire on the female side, being Made of Gold?
Incidentally the second dam, is the dam of Starspanglebanner, who he also looks like!
Either way in my opinion, he's certainly got a bigger future than a lot of early season speed machines of the past.

A pretty average call from T. Lee
Appears to be struggling with remembering IMHO
Time to get a new younger person on board.

Great tour over the weekend. I hadn't attended for a few years.
The Chosen One stood out I thought. Has let down well and walked like he owned the joint.

I'd find Street Cry blood. PI's too rich unfortunately and Telperion isn't commercial, I would use Shocking who has five stakes horses from O'Reilly mares.

Coolmore sent a number of their best mares to Japan to visit champion sire Deep Impact before his passing in 2019 and the exercise has produced Epsom Oaks winner Snowfall, Newmarket 2000 Guineas winner Saxon Warrior, French Oaks winner Fancy Blue and now the best of them all an Epsom Derby winner in Auguste Rodin.

50 odd mares probably isn't too bad considering all the competition up there. I always thought he would be well suited to the South Island. I was surprised he didn't go there in the first place.

His first SH crop are 3yos; he's had 81 foals for 42 runners, 18 winners, 1 SW (Leedox). Eight of his 87 SH 2yos have run for three winners, with a Gr. 3 placing in Oz.
He's going better up north with five SWs and a Gr. 1 placegetter (his first crop are now 4yos), and his best one Crypto Force is a 3yo who beat English 2000 Guineas/Derby fave Auguste Rodin on debut. Crypto Force hasn't been seen since his Gr. 2 win last September, but looks to still hold noms for the Irish Guineas & Derby.
He's leaving horses which seem to mature early and get a mile (but are fine sprinting, and potentially in time can get further like he did at 4) which should suit the market. Great pedigree too. And his third SH crop (current yearlings) will be his biggest yet. He hasn't established himself as quality yet (hence the unchanged stud fee) but there's promise there, and it's too early to call him a dud IMO.
