  1. Good point canon47 but you need to pass a venue inspection before being granted a permit to race. The powers that be want all of the facilities to be ship shape ie track conditions, the stand, all buildings, camera towers etc and the list goes on. One of the reasons these seldom used venues are not racing .
  2. Quite interesting some of the comments here re grass track racing. What you people don’t realise is that the galloping clubs in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty decided to deny the availability of the grass tracks for a couple of reasons. The dates committee every year argued for the summer dates rather than have traditional dates that were easily planned for, ie entertainment, food trucks etc, and the dates were changed between the codes with perhaps the gallops having a little more sway? Gallops trials were more money making propositions in some clubs opinions despite the community enjoying harness racing for decades previously. And from a financial point of view it costs heaps more to run a one off grass track meeting after paying a big rent to a galloping track and then all the add ons when the harness club with an all weather track can do it without the weather threat and with the club itself benefiting. In saying that I really enjoyed grass track racing, just as I do all weather track racing. Join your local club committee and be part of these decisions and discussions.
  3. I would probably watch Manukau before Cromwell but don’t forget that originally every meeting locally regardless of code was supposed to get a five minute lead in. Even with two channels this doesn’t happen often as they preview tomorrow’s races or show the previous race finish several times, instead of going to the next meeting to see the build up.
  4. I have sent an email to the new PM and have received an acknowledgment that he has my email and I will be getting a response in due course. Probably a bit busy now and perhaps not top of his priorities but I will let you know if and when I get a reply. I asked several questions Re our game, it will be interesting to get his answers.
  5. Idolmite, I think you will find “Waikato “ are not all morons as you stated. How about the Chiefs, towelled up the mighty Christchurch team The powerhouse horse studs, thoroughbred and harness trainers, the rowers, cyclists, etc Re the Greyhound club there are wonderful people involved Have you actually read GRNZ updates Re the lure problem and the solution at hand . You will see clearly the problem is the lack of stock of the new lures being available to purchase, and the manufacturing times are long too This type of problem could easily pop up on any track in Australia or NZ , as a mobile barrier in harness or starting stalls at gallops could too . In a perfect world as soon as Cambridge is reconfigured with new gear and modifications and testing shows it is reliable every track in NZ should be completely overhauled! Money and a crystal ball would be a great thing
  6. Diesel,You worry me with your attempt to create an argument re greyhound racing being cruel and inhumane in your opinion. Yet you state you hardly ever have watched them and appear to have no knowledge of the way they are prepared and looked after particularly before they race. All forms of sport, equine, canine, and all human sports involve strapping, grease etc on legs to prevent rubbing injury. Someone here previously explained this comprehensively to you and is bang on, the white “grease” is water soluble and helps against rubbing, certainly not an ointment to treat an injury, same basically as what my knees were covered with when I played rugby. The vet goes over every part of every dog before they are kenneled before racing. These animals absolutely love to race, they are treated as family, and are brilliant pets after racing Re the drug question that is a human thing that has crept into our society as a whole, doctors, lawyers etc too involved just by reading the press, one bad egg does not mean it is rife and the swabbing system in all sports will catch the bad eggs. Not my field but I would suggest drugs and injury to animals is way more prevalent in domestic pets than you may realise. Diesel, I do hope this helps you understand the love and care these neat athletic animals get, probably better than most children get, but I do have a question for you I do hope you are not a placard carrying activist on here trying to get a bite as your questions were originally answered pretty well I thought.
  7. Race 9 at Addington Friday night That is a long way from a standing start in my opinion A mobile without a vehicle
  8. The last time an overseas operation was involved someone forgot to factor in the monthly fees, or a similar cockup, and the government had to help resolve the bill payment. The TAB has drifted off track a bit, in a bid to attract young people etc They seem very keen to advertise darts, boxing and other non racing products that must be popular and hopefully profitable, yet dismissed racing radio that most punters had on in their cars etc. Maybe someone has studied the numbers and they are on the correct path.
  9. Both eljay with his big owners comments and Nelli with the Cambridge management comments are making statements that are well wide of the mark. Nelli ring the office and apologise for your uninformed and incorrect statements
  10. Every day across all 3 codes the experts put up multi, quaddie, pick 6 selections and I often take a photo of the screen and check the results later. Regularly gone in the first leg and hardly ever a winning result.
  11. George 1- J Teaz nil , and by 7 lengths
  12. Sorry John Legend, my last paragraph was badly written. I still support harness racing, still involved in ownership and punting , still have many friends involved like I am. Still attend at the track , perhaps not quite as regular as previous years. I have never bred a Standardbred though. Everyone I have known that has been involved in governance has had a passion for the industry, perhaps maybe you too? Never easy for everyone to agree on the magic formula though.
  13. John Coulam has his own name and signature on his post. He has put time and effort to help the whole harness fraternity try and achieve a sustainable result over a long period of time at several levels , now at Chairmans level. Flash, Tasman, etc, including me as well are keyboard warriors with no target on our shirts. You guys might know who you all are and your pedigree re club representative, trainer etc but I don't. In my opinion if you don't like what John Coulam says or does get on your local club committee and be part of the process that elected him. He is at least communicating with everyone to keep us in the picture. Thank you from an owner but not a breeder, former club committee person, punter, and racing in general enthusiast.
  14. Perhaps the green party got some sort of promise from Labour in the initial negotiations? Re the P positive, lifetime ban for the person involved in my book.
  15. Sort of reminds me of the great aussie movie The Castle Similar lawyer!
  16. I agree with the statement the old website was OK. Re the Racing Minister, I once had a meeting with a previous holder of this position and pre Winston. He was driven halfway across the country in his chauffeur driven BMW along with his black suited advisor. We had given his office a brief on exactly what our questions were and why we needed the information about the subject. He was not only the racing minister but held several other titles. He was useless, was not and did not answer any one of our questions, he kept deferring to his offsider who said we cannot answer that but will get back to you. Then back in the car Eddie and gone. So in my mind the number one man is given the job but they are not racing people, they have several other portfolios, they have background staff pulling the strings and advising them. So don't hang your hat on them improving racing or making recommendations or rational decisions. Unfortunately it is generally just a job not a passion.
  17. How about if said world authority had punted on the favourite? Not saying he did but he was quite able to punt as it wasn't in this years rules
  18. Sorry 25.5 was on the board 3 times, not 25.
  19. Absolute rubbish Drink Shoeys crosses the line at 25. Ends up 25.59 Federal Morgan crosses at 25. Ends up at 25.50 Pedro Lee runs 25. The clock has somehow malfunctioned so they panic and go to an outside influence from last year's rules, not this years, and leave everyone hanging Finally 25.61? Is declared wtf How could it go up when all the other times stayed in the 25.? And become 25.61 Cannot wait to see the replay when I get home because surprisingly has yet to be posted
  20. Whole shebang should be postponed for a week or so or whatever time it takes to get Auckland back to level 2. Unfair to run it without the preferred drivers
  21. Lawyers have a code of conduct and ethics, accountants, car dealers, real estate agents etc have a similar written code to abide by. But although the majority stick to the rules there are bad eggs in every game. Another poster on here suggests a lifetime ban, I tend to agree. If that power is available or possible to use it surely would be a hell of a deterrent for those thinking of offending. Worth a shot maybe?
  22. I disagree with your comments JJFlash I have followed Harness Racing most of my life and in fact had a horse win at Hutt Park. The facilities have improved on track unbelievably at Auckland and Cambridge since those days. The racing is much the same, perhaps Auckland field sizes could be better. At both tracks the people are now inside rather than outside so from your TV it maybe looks a bit like no punters. Have you been at Cambridge on course in the last few years?
  23. Why involve the kidz kartz with that clown show tonight
  24. Over 50 local horses involved is a big positive, if the place was kicked in to touch where would they be?
  25. I am a harness fan and have attended many cups, some with poor starts as well but that was a shocker as everyone saw and has commented, even the stipes saw it. Add to that the support races with multiple breaking horses no wonder the code cops flak. Not that you can put Harness horses in boxes or starting stalls but at least let's get a standing start away from a stand, not a moving Mobile without a vehicle. Ray Green must be spewing, and should be compensated by hrnz for this. Should have been declared a non starter as a false start was not blown. That's my opinion and I see others have disagreed and say the start was fine but it is a Standing start race.
