There's a lot of emotive nonsense in these posts. Yes, the famous Ellerslie Hill has history on its side ...but the future of NZ racing depends on a viable, sustainable model in Auckland for the 21st century - and that means realising the asset value of underproductive land. Avondale, take note, Swallow yer pride, sell the land and invest in the greater good while taking a seat or three at the table for the next 100 years, instead of moaning about injustices of the past. That grandstand at Avondale is in itself a huge indictment on your previous and current leaders/management strategy, what an eyesore.
The loss of the Ellerslie Hill is sad - a relative pf mine won a McGregor Grant Chase ad was [placed in the GN Steeples when only a teenager. But he wouldnt want the Hill to stay there just for history's sake, whennn the future of our great sport is at this crossroads. Well done, ARC and Counties RC. Show them the way forward.

I bow to your superior knowledge , that the KM day was gifted !!!!
And a matter of fact too ,silly me thinking it was held on the top rated course ...I thought it a reward for leadership.
But I'll take the insults along with the cynicism and envy as sure sign  you got little to offer.
Love the poser insult , in fact I enjoy the vibe of KM day in the best viewing area...the public stand  ,with the odd venture into the BGP area to enjoy the VIBE there ! Its a rare day when Aussies are competing and JMcDonald ,Bowman,Berry , CWilliams among others on show !
So sorry that clubs dear and near to you are set for closure ,maybe you should try and put this behind you ......things can't be as bad and difficult as you make out....there is help out there !

NZ racing is going gangbusters at the moment :
- new AWT (everyone loves it I'm told which is absolutely fantastic for the industry going forward, well that's what they all say on trackside so it has to be true)
- Massive increase in distributions to the codes (costs have been cut here there and everywhere , including that pointless avenue for distributing the product etc  the radio , a tool of communication set back in the stone ages and thankfully we in NZ racing circles have seen the light and rid our industry of this pointless tool for promoting our sport amongst others has been uses for the tool, I expect other jurisdictions will soon follow our lead on this one in droves! ) 
- rumour has it prizemoney will soon be going up up up also, which is fantastic for everyone in the industry - can't wait! Still only at rumour stage but I'm certain it will happen soon
and of course the main reason for our massive resurgence
- the quality product we put out on trackside which is quite simply world class (those darn Aussies could learn a thing or two from us thats for sure!) I put the success of trackside down to the "been there and done" that persons running the show ( they probably don't listen to your suggestions because they already have it performing to its absolute best , so don't take it to heart , they know what they are doing!)

Blossom Lady (Champion pacer) one of the best ever in NZ. won a NZ Cup , 2 x Hunter Cups ,and even got on a postage stamp like Cardigan Bay did. (quite an honour) 
Was just having a chuckle , as just above are Idolmite and Mister Spyro who both had very moderate form most of the time around 1980 ish at the harness racing 
Pure Steel being near the Best Aussie ever , around that era,  as well.

The Hill going would be very sad, but hard decisions are required at this time.

All that sacred Ellerslie Hill soil could be dug up and transported to Avondale or Te Aroha and lets make a new hill with the old hill ...
I have an absolute love of the Hill and Steeplechase and Hurdle racing but if we are going to get a world class Strathayr track in and with Ellerslie to race at around 40x a year then , as it should have been years ago, then sorry Hill.
This is where Te Aroha and Te Rapa jumps racing come into their own.
There will still be jumps racing in NZ !!!

Hold on let me think..................... a $300 million injection of cash into an industry that is struggling , minimum stakes of $100k per ace , 6 x $500k and 4 x $1M races each season , or are you one of the retards that believe that owners , trainers , administrators etc. can survive each year on  $10K maiden races each week ???
And if you have a real concern for jumps racing I would invite you to the bar at Ellerslie where the jumps jockeys manage to get themselves evicted each race day because of their tardy behavior , or , are you one of them ?? 

I was at the members meeting last night and watched a very slick presentation from both clubs which convinced me that this partnership should proceed immediately.
The only objection came from some old grey haired blighter who was sad that it would see the demise of the Ellerslie Hill , move with the times grandad !! 
Racing in NZ will be the winner with hugely increased stakes and a fantastic facility

ARC recently leased out a $50M block of land and are almost due to flog off another block for $75M , they will receive another $100k from the amalgamation with Counites , they receive $2M a year from sponsors , their corporate facilities are pretty much booked out every race day , do you really think they give a flying fuck what tossers like you think ?
