With you being at the Coalface  you are in a good position to answer that question. Have not heard  of any problems down south but the need for upward pathways in any industry is paramount

Typically  of Auckland  they were happy to use lower grade horses  to fill the card last 2 years and now they saying thanks u we don't  need or want u here racing .Everybody  needs a share  or the pie for it to work or the system  doesn't  work most stables have those type of horses cant justifie racing further than cambridge it's to far for the guy that has a couple  of horses in work when coping those points hard to do if ur a 1 man operation with family and work not hard u need strong foundations for a business  to work if the top of the tree is the only 1 getting the fruit ur left with bitter fruit at the bottom taste bad ? It must be shared around we all need to eat . The club must support  the little guys  if there making  some return the will continue  in this great game not walk away to many young people walking away there our future  the old guys  and there loyal  owners call it quits not enough  for the younger horse  man and woman to say in the game after u lose u claim wake u auckland before  it's  to late please

8 of the Mares in the  Matchmaker series being run at Yonkers presently are former Nz ers.  If we catered for 4 year old  plus mares here most of those would still be racing in NZ.  Instead the owners are forced to sell because the people programming races here won’t cater for them adequately. As a consequence they are lost to our breeding industry.                                                  Is it time to take programming off clubs and centralise it with a national committee of breeders, trainers and owners involved, that can oversee complimentary programming nationwide and inject some common sense into the system?

Bloody hard read that statement above. You would think they could employ someone who could put out a well written, easy to read statement.

I don't think this is a case of doing backflips.once again prof hall has done a thorough job and come up with a verdict.whether u like it or not the judgement is thorough and fair.its the system we work under. This case has not been heard by the  local plumber.prof  hall credentials are impeccable.
accept and move on.if riu think he is wrong I guess they can appeal as per the Lawson case.. The sad part of all this a great fellow and great horseman like Gareth has had enough and I believe he's chucked it in.so like someone found innocent in court they are still victims when they win.

Horses have been exported forever. Nothing wrong with that  if the money reinvested.with the current stakes there is no reason not to.will it be is the question.we export food 8f we get good prices then we grow more.same as horses.i don't know if we are growing enough that might be the problem.
the original argument I think still stands.average horse can earn decent money at the park.it mighty cover cost but it never has.personally I'm happy to race every week and sooner or later most horses will get a shot at the gold when they find a suitable race.dunno if you can ask anymore.

I think we should shout the All stars a course at the newly established "Abernethy Charm School for interviewing techniques on track " much more interesting ...

Going to the races to make a few bucks on the punt seem to have gone.
Mick Guerin picked 7 winners out of the 10 races............... If you had put $10 win on each selection ( 1st pick ) you would have made $7.00 for your $100 outlay............... Terrific !!
As for 8 horse fields and one trainer winning everything........... YAWN
I think its time to make all Alex Park meetings Equalizator meetings........ now that would be fun.

Harness Racing NZ could with their share from money projected from the Race Field Legislation.  10 present trainers would be able to help out getting new young ones into the game. 20 odd raceday licence's to add to the grass tracks and Palmerston North and you got a proper circuit.

Probably 6 for the win, 2 for being amateur, 1 for being on a grass track, and 2 as a travel bonus.    That's 11 - sounds about how the handicapper would go

Hunter the punter reacted to eljay in why bother
Perhaps the trainers/drivers need address the situation first and look at such ogres that have crept into our system.    Race conditions like "horses that have not won a juniors race"   "discretion"    "points for losing horses"   "points for winners who have preciously won a juniors race"   "PBD" - so the list goes on.     Races for JD's need to be attractive for owners/trainers to start their horses in otherwise the status quo will continue.     Do the clubs, handicappers, etc. have too much say in these conditions whereas trainers, have to take what's thrown at them?     We certainly don't want a situation of "like it or lump it" but this appears to be the thinking that's creeping in.     The sport (industry) needs to be an attractive option for young people not as appears to be be happening a dead end!

Scoobs, there have been many good horses come from every corner of the country over the years, even the likes of George Yakich and Solo's Dream from Dargaville who won at Ellerslie in front of the Queen.Like has been said before. The industry is dying but nobody wants to be the first to help it into the recovery position. Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die.

Quite the contrary FTM. Had quite a successful career as both a trainer and driver at a semi-pro level for over a decade, and later as an administrator and sponsor.

So can you kindly tell us what right he had to be in the race as a well supported 2nd favourite carrying a huge amount of punters money, if as you say he was "never ready" and incapable of running "the time they ran" - 1.54.5 - which handy maidens regularly run - why was he there?
We now know whey. They wanted a "nice workout" to prepare him for his Aussie campaign.
I'm not surprised that you can't see the problem with this. Neither can those running the game!

Stablemate in the death and the pace was going to go on? Yeah right.
Yes she knew exactly what she was doing alright, but it was nothing to do with getting some place money, it was to get the perfect pre-Aussie hitout .... and she got it!
