I picked up $525 on Thursday with a $50 bet  so it's time for a bet at big adds , Rusty Lane R5 at Trentham . I have had a big opinion of this horse and his trainer for some time so the $31 and $7.5 fixed at the moment was to tempting to ignore . Its a tough very even field so a good draw and luck in the running  will be really important but with a good jock onboard I like my chances , time will tell , fingers crossed , happy punting all .

One of NZs most underrated and underutilized jockeys. Chris gives his mounts every chance and is superb in a finish. He can look over vigorous at times, but to be fair some of the horses he is booked to ride , couldn't win a race against Gerry Brownlee. Injury robbed him of a large part of his career, I hope he continues to taste success in the future

A balanced view Gruff worth a read .
    2024 and beyond ,
Quote , Professor Peter McIntyre, head of Otago University's Department of Women's and Children's Health, says severe illness from Covid is rare in children and young people.
"Influenza is going to be a much more serious, ongoing problem for children born today than Covid," he says.
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is also more likely to land a child in intensive care than Covid, he adds.
"Most pediatricians I've spoken to feel [Covid vaccination from 6 months] isn't warranted, at this stage."
Coming into 2024, we need better data on Covid cases, hospitalizations and deaths, to better inform public health strategies going forward, McIntyre says.
"I don't think it'll be practical to have restrictive policies to minimize infections.
"That model of stamping it out was successful before Delta got in in 2021, but it's not practical now."
And it's unclear whether it will continue to be cost-effective to offer booster shots to young, healthy people, he says.
What's clear, however, is the benefit of vaccinating at-risk populations: "If you're vulnerable or elderly, you need to hop on board with regular boosters."

We will be able to judge him after the first 100 day target is achieved so far he is bound by that agreement so possibly not the true Luxon , time will tell .
Today we see another great move , Bill English back on the scene , Former prime minister Sir Bill English will lead an independent review into Kāinga Ora, the Government's housing department “A recent report by the Treasury and Ministry for Housing and Urban Development found that Kāinga Ora’s level of debt had grown from $2.7 billion in 2018 to $12.3 billion in June of this year. Advice released last year suggests that if Kāinga Ora continues on its current trajectory, their debt would reach $28.9 billion by 2033," Bishop said, in a statement.
How the f can that explosion of debt not be addressed by the previous pack of no hopers , mind boggling .

Safe for the mentally stable Gruff , nobody can cater for those disturbed/addicted in society but  here's some great news you MIGHT approve of ,
Quote , An updated vaccine to combat the newest strains of Covid-19 has been approved and will be ready in time for New Zealand’s winter in 2024.
Medsafe today approved Pfizer’s application for the new vaccine which will “be used to help reduce next year’s winter load on our hospitals”. ,
“The series of changes we see in the Covid-19 virus means we need to continually reassess and update our response to it,” Medsafe group manager Chris James said in a statement. The announcement came as the country battles a fifth wave of infections in the lead up to Christmas.
There were 7417 new Covid-19 cases reported in the week , now when you consider many people infected  don't report it  it's fair to say covid is in full swing again . I was ready to role up my sleeve yesterday but they wouldn't jab me ,(no 5)  I have to wait until after christmas , bugger .

Bit of a problem here , The climate pattern known as El Niño, which quickly strengthened into a strong event, appears to be on the brink of a major decline, which would send the world into what is known as a neutral status.
So El Nino is dead and these types of over hyping weather events including droughts  is proving costly for some .Quote  a $97.9 million loss, have brought urgent changes for Alliance Group, chair Murray Taggart says. and here's a small part of the problem , Taggart said Alliance Group also incurred additional costs, bringing in extra processing capacity for farmers in anticipation of a 2023 summer drought, which never eventuated , global warming continues to disappoint .

Here's an interesting one we just signed .
New Zealand has signed an international agreement saying agriculture and food production must urgently adapt to respond to climate change. , The declaration comes out of COP28, the United Nations' climate summit currently taking place in Dubai, signed by 134 of the 197 countries in attendance.  Excellent we are playing the game and reading on I find this , "Countries must put food systems and agriculture at the heart of their climate ambitions, addressing both global emissions and protecting the lives and livelihoods of farmers living on the front line of climate change." , Fantastic according to this lot we are all on the front line so protecting our farmers is a priority , great news .

This is really adding up, big money being saved from stupid spending .
Auckland light rail $14.6 BILLION , LGWM $7.4 BILLION , Lake Onslow hydro , $16 billion ,  Cook strait  Ferrys project $3 BILLION And the clean car discount (cancelled)  was supposed to be financially neutral  has lost $302 million, Thats around $41 BILLION in total but as we all know over time these costs would escalate so $50 BILLION plus is more likely the cost .
Now no doubt some of this money will be spent but as you can see the potential savings is huge , the pumped hydro won't go ahead that's for sure , pumped hydro is a failed idea as the Ausses have found out .
Quote , Malcolm Turnbull has described the lack of planning and construction of pumped hydro energy storage in the world and Australia as “the ignored crisis within the energy crisis,” and says it will play a crucial role in the shift to 100% renewables. Really , perhaps the world new better .
    Now this , 27 Oct 2023 — The six-times cost blowout of Snowy 2.0, from $2bn (2017) to $12bn and no where finished .
So as you can see big savings are being made and more to come , the last government had no idea of the value of money just tax and borrow then spend , no idea on values , no  people with business experience to guide the ship , the worst government in NZ history .
    Just found this ,
Decision 2020   The Lake Onslow project would cost up to $4 billion, take four to five years to build plus two years to fill the reservoir, could employ as many as 4500 workers at its peak, and indirectly produce thousands more jobs .
NOW $16 BILLION , truth is it's probably $30 billion when  finished .

At it again ,they have honored another election pledge BRILLIANT . 17 Oct, 2023
Pre election , QUOTE , National has confirmed that Let’s Get Wellington Moving (LGWM) is dead but it’s business as usual for the time being, while the party gets on with forming a government. The $7.4 billion transport plan was a key issue in the capital on the campaign trail.
TODAY, Quote , In a joint statement, Infrastructure and Housing Minister Chris Bishop, Transport Minister Simeon Brown, Wellington City Mayor Tory Whanau, and Greater Wellington Regional Council chair Daran Ponter said an agreement to dissolve LGWM had been reached. It was also confirmed today that central government will build and fund the Basin Reserve upgrade and second Mt Victoria tunnel;  Bishop said Wellingtonians were "sick of all the backwards and forwards on the second Mt Vic tunnel". "The tunnel will create exciting opportunities for more urban development and housing, and the government will work with Wellington City Council to explore these opportunities."
This was $7.4 BILLION probably much more and now reduced to a couple of billion for the government , fantastic, the wasting of tax payer money is ending reality is returning .
A bit of History ex news hub 27/05/2022
Transport Minister Michael Wood is confident the project will get done: "We are committed to delivering these projects."  But rather than having shovels in the ground for them, official documents show $39 million has been spent on consultants since 2015 .
National's transport spokesperson Simeon Brown is unimpressed.

Another gem today , Transport Minister Simeon Brown puts brakes on cycling and walking initiatives in NZ Transport Authority , QUOTE HERALD ,
The new Government’s Transport Minister Simeon Brown has pulled the brakes on dozens of council projects designed to encourage cycling, walking and use of public transport across the country, sparking confusion in local authority ranks and fury amongst cycling advocates.
“I understand that some local authorities have been developing programmes with NZTA and other stakeholders to reduce vehicle kilometres travelled (VKT) by the light vehicle fleet, using funding from the Climate Emergency Response Fund,” he wrote.
“I have given notice to NZTA to end its work on these programmes, and to not commit any further funding to local authorities (beyond existing contractual obligations) to develop these programmes. Thank you for your understanding as we work through these changes.”
Here's a classic example of council stupidity ., New Plymouth Mayor Neil Holdom was still trying to work out what the minister’s move meant for the proposal for a $14m cycleway in the city. FOURTEEN MILLION , effin amazing .
Plenty more to read in this article but basically  wasting money is coming to an end .

    EX Kiwi Blog .
At the suggestion of a subscriber Curia in June, July and August has asked 1,000 New Zealanders if they know the English name of various government agencies in Te Reo. We now have results for six agencies:
Manatū Hauora, Ministry of Health: 8.1% Te Manatū Waka, Ministry of Transport: 7.7% Te Putea Matua, Reserve Bank of New Zealand: 5.7% Te Pou Hauora Tūmatanui, Public Health Agency: 4.6% Waka Kotahi, NZ Transport Agency: 50.1% Te Aka Whai Ora, Maori Health Authority: 11.1% This reinforces to me how insulting it it to the public for media or the agencies to only use the Te Reo names. Taxpayers should not have to google an agency to know what it is.

Smoking change hardly an issue for Luxon , sure he must deal with any politically driven backlash but this was a NZ First policy and was part of the agreement , this is the cost of an mmp system anyway the law to be repealed wasn't due to be implemented until July 2024 .Quote , The laws were due to be implemented from July 2024. But as part of its coalition agreement with populist New Zealand First, National agreed to repeal the amendments, including “removing requirements for de-nicotisation, removing the reduction in retail outlets and the generation ban”. slashing the number of stores legally allowed to sell cigarettes from 6,000 to just 600 nationwide.
No doubt slashing the number of retail outlets would have been boom time for the gangs , the black marked would be almost instant and huge .
Luxon is just clearing the rubbish out of the way and will soon get on with what matters

Ok we have a problem MAYBE , we have panic in the health department you have to wonder why ?, stolen info has been released off shore and the courts are stopping it here .
Chief executive at Te Whatu Ora Margie Apa said the staff member, who has no clinical background or expert knowledge, was trying to spread misinformation. "What he is claiming is completely wrong and ill-informed and his comments demonstrate this , "Sadly, we have continued to see conspiracy theorists disseminating false and harmful misinformation." Apa said the worker was trying to "misuse our data to spread misinformation". He was no longer at work at an employment investigation was underway.
Apa told 1News she couldn't express how disappointing it was that a contributing member of their team had "really just let us down". "He's stolen this data from us and we're really mindful that New Zealanders trust us with information, so being able to trust our staff to undertake their duties and treat this information respectfully is really important to us," she said. She said the information this individual had access to in their day-to-day job was non-clinical.
"The inferences he's drawn are just wrong," she said. Apa said the case was "very unusual" in Te Whatu Ora's existence as staff are highly trusted.  Te Whatu Ora told 1News the worker shared misinformation on a Covid-19 vaccine conspiracy site.
"We assure people there is no evidence whatsoever that vaccination is responsible for excess mortality in New Zealand and that they can continue to have confidence in vaccines," she said.
"By chance and separate to a prior Covid-19 vaccination event, some people will experience new illnesses or die from a pre-existing condition shortly after vaccination, especially if they are elderly," she said.
Lets see how this all ends up , great propaganda for the conspiracy camp , IT'S NOT YOU IS IT Gruff ??
