  1. I found the whole presentation to be far more professional that the old firm. The auctioneers were 20 times better than the stock agents used by PGG Wrightson in years gone by and buyers should know their pedigrees before purchasing. Anybody miss Paul Davies, i thought not!!
  2. Thats what i have heard as well, some have a better chance of achieving that outcome than others simply because of the nature/severity of the charges.
  3. Good to see him back in the cart again tonight. He must heal well as i was right opposite him when he went flying and it looked ugly to say the least.
  4. To be fair there are some good posters over there but it has sure got toxic of late and i even see the D word being mentioned by Doug to FU. Harewood is having a bit of fun with a few of conspiracy theorists but as always it flies over there heads
  5. Thats a bit harsh Iraklis , even clowns have a place in this world, they are called circus's
  6. Super field as always and no doubt the AS detractors will be out in force should one of their mares win after their underwhelming performances a few weeks back.I even saw some idiot suggesting they were pulled up which is nigh on impossible when you lead trail On Box Seat last night was the news from the barn that both were found to have contracted a virus which has subsequently been treated. Both recovered now by all accounts but virus and poor bloods can be very misleading. A case of punter beware on this occasion for me.
  7. I think we are all hearing you Rusty. Didnt Ellerslie introduce a Whips and Spurs room for younger race goers which proved very sucessful. As for the Met its hamstrung by board members who are not in touch with commercial reality and what the future holds. McKenzie sorted the place out ,put in great structures and got it profitable after the Goodber years, the guy after him did nothing of note that i can see whilst its too early to say what the new CEO can do.
  8. Lets see who the smart racing club CEO's are.I would be offering more than just the odd rebate. Its what any business would call the "Multiplier" effect
  9. By all accounts the 3 AS runners have all trained on well since their last assignments. You need to also take into account that All U need is Faith missed a crucial lead up race.
  10. News Share Major Sponsor Confirmed 05 February 2019 New Zealand’s home of harness racing Addington has joined forces with one of the biggest names in the racing industry as the major sponsor for their Harness Jewels. IRT, one of the world’s largest and most respected horse transportation companies, have secured the naming rights for the first ever Jewels to be held at Addington on June 1. Securing their key sponsor so early and to have it be a major industry player such as IRT is a huge win for Addington as their count down to their first Jewels meeting. “Addington is delighted to have been given the opportunity to host the Harness Jewels for the first time.,” says new chief executive Brian Thompson. “We are also excited Richard Cole and his team at IRT are the naming rights sponsor and are the overall principal partner of the Harness Jewels. “IRT have been huge supporters of the industry for many years so it’s great to see the biggest global horse freighting company involved with such an iconic event. ”We can’t wait for the build-up and big day itself and we want to wish all involved good luck in the lead up to the IRT Harness Jewels. “We are very much looking forward to hosting an outstanding day in conjunction with IRT and HRNZ.” Richard Cole from IRT says he is thrilled that IRT New Zealand have become the naming rights sponsor and principal partner of the Jewels. “It is fantastic to be able to continue IRT’s long standing support of the Standardbred market especially as a partner in a Harness Racing event of this magnitude,” said Cole. “ And, as a helper of industry as a whole, IRT looks forward to continuing its ongoing support to help secure a bright future for an industry we all love so well.” While the Jewels are always a huge day on the New Zealand racing calendar this year’s rendition could top all others. Not only does the Jewels move to the home of harness racing in Addington but the early indications are the fields for the age group series of races could be the strongest ever. The four-year-old division for one boasts the likes of Auckland Cup winner Turn It Up, Inter Dominion heat winners Spankem and Pats Delight, Auckland Cup placegetter Ashley Locaz and multiple country cups winner Funatthebeach. And the three-year-old pacing filly division could bring together last season’s defending champion Princess Tiffany against Alexandra Park’s December fillies Triple Crown winner Belle Of Montana as many of the glamour division look to have more depth that ever before. And after last season’s successful Australian raid on the Jewels at Cambridge, Addington and HRNZ officials are confident of another significant Australian contingent, further boasting interest across the Tasman in the day which hosts nine group one races. Im sure this deal will ease the pain of the losses the Met will encounter holding the Jewels this year. What an earth were the board thinking taking this on.
  11. Which your quite entitled to do in my book but as the old saying goes " two wrongs don't make a right". For the record i like Iraklis posts, they are more factual than many of the sites i visit
  12. You certainly appear to have a bee in your bonnet re team AS. if fact one might say you are borrowing a lot of the language that was used by those who used to post on here. Probably just coincidence.
  13. We need you and Long Owner on the panel based on your repetitive posts. I hope you don't gamble
  14. Excellent work " enteebee ". Much appreciated. Do you by chance know the outcome of the inquiry and if so what the penalty was.
  15. If what you write is valid how come quite a few of AS owners have their horses with other trainers as well. It sort of defeats you and a few others argument. I'm talking Casey, Butterworths,Gillans to name just a few.
  16. If i may im going to challenge you on a few of your points which i have underlined above. They do have large numbers of successful young horses most of which are selected by MP at yearling sales. I have been lucky enough to see his selections at the pre sale process which also have what considers to be the price to go to. It most cases its south of 80K. You rarely see him or his clients paying top dollar at sales. I.m excluding Feiss family who select their own stock and bid accordingly Team driving is something of a grey area, see another thread i started on this, and im not sure AS are any different to to other stables who have multiple runners. If i found out my driver was defeated before he jumped in the bike then he would be gone immediately. J Dunn and a few others often make group racing exciting with their front running tactics. And to continue with Dunns, they have been massive buyers of young stock in recent years and often paying decent money so its obviously not discouraging their clients The decline in the breeding side of things has many causes. A lot of farmers used to breed horses as they had the land and feed to do it in a cost effective way. As the game has moved on for the good IMHO , profressional studs will always produce a quality product for buyers to purchase, its all down to having a better balance sheet and economies of scale. In short amateur breeding days whilst still there are slowly diminishing. I would not be relying on Messara report too much and if your point about more money for lowers graded races is at the expense of Group races that is a sure fire " Race to the bottom" IMHO
  17. This is a term commonly used in Harness forums . Can anyone quote me what the exact definition is and what the penalties are for such an offense if indeed it is an offense.
  18. I think your posts on this thread confirm what many of us thought on your opinion of AS, i might add your perfectly entitled to them as well. Given your last sentence above, are you a hypocrite if and when they win races by not mentioning it when you post Personally , i have no strong view on whether they are good, bad or neutral for the game as i see many other reasons for the ongoing demise of Harness in NZ. Im hearing the numbers for both Harness and the Dogs are not at all flash at the moment.
  19. The latest from Victoria Under-fire trainer Darren Weir will be able to run his horses in the short-term despite his arrest for questioning by Victoria Police on Wednesday morning. Weir and two other men were arrested for questioning after detectives from VicPol’s sporting integrity unit raided his Warrnambool and Ballarat stables at about 6am on Wednesday. Weir has five runners engaged at Wednesday’s Mornington meeting with three of his eight acceptors among the routine scratchings for the meeting. Weir has nine acceptors for Friday night’s meeting at The Valley and the stable will be able to accept with runners at meetings over the weekend. Racing Victoria is not in a position to use their power to stand down Weir as he has not been charged with a breach of the Rules of Racing. A Racing Victoria spokesman was unable to determine whether stewards would charge Weir or any other licenced person at this stage of the investigation, which is being run in conjunction with Victoria Police.
  20. DEVELOPING STORY: Darren Weir stables raided by Victorian Police Darren Weir Photo: Darryl Sherer Article Author Brad Waters 30 January 2019 Detectives from Victoria Police’s sports integrity unit have raided the Ballarat and Warrnambool operations of the state’s premier trainer Darren Weir on Wednesday morning. Rumours of an investigation into the Weir stable have been circulating around racing for months before the police hit the Weir stables. Police have confirmed they have arrested Weir and two other men and taken in for questioning. "They will now be interviewed in relation to sporting integrity matters, including obtain financial advantage by deception, engaging in conduct that corrupts or would corrupt a betting outcome of event or event contingency, use of corrupt information for betting purposes and attempt to commit indictable finanical offence, namely obtain financial advantage by deception," a Victoria Police statement read. "A number of items, including a firearm and what is believed to be a conducted engery device were also seized from the properties. "This investigation remains ongoing and has also been assisted by Racing Victoria." Weir’s stable sent out a Commonwealth record of 491 winners and won more than $31 million in prizemoney last season. Racing Victoria has released a statement on the matter. Almost all media organisations have named Weir but RV’s general manager of integrity Jamie Stier says the organisation was not prepared to name the trainer involved. “Racing Victoria’s Integrity Services team has been conducting an investigation into the activities of licensed persons in the Warrnambool and Ballarat areas. During the course of our investigation we sought the support of Victoria Police’s Sporting Integrity Intelligence Unit on the matter, instigating their investigation,” Stier said. “The Sporting Integrity Intelligence Unit this morning executed warrants at properties in Warrnambool and Ballarat where they arrested three licensed persons for questioning. Members of the Racing Victoria Integrity Services team attended licensed stables to assist Victoria Police and to investigate potential offences against the Rules of Racing. “As the matters are the subject of on-going investigations by Victoria Police and Racing Victoria we are not at liberty at this time to disclose the identities of the persons arrested nor the details of the investigations. “Racing Victoria is committed to maintaining the highest integrity standards in our sport and, where appropriate, we will continue to work with Victoria Police on those investigations.” As the matter is ongoing, comments have been turned off on this article. 21. Valid observation Malcolm, i would venture to say most meetings down that way are well patronized and have been for many decades. A lot of farmers who still like to potter around with a few horses and mares and thus you see a variety of trainers names in each race
  22. I think that is the same at any sale Gubellini. If i was NZB or a Vendor i would be disappointed thus far. Median of 100K and clearance rate below 80% for your premium sale. Compare it to recent MM on Gold Coast Clearance 89.3% and Median 170K
  23. Perseverance pays, he should have got the job in the first place IMHO. His biggest issue going forward will be dealing with the board as i believe he has shown all the other attributes required.
  24. It certainly does not like a good sale thusfar, many passing and horses selling for little money. Gai W spent 6mio plus at MM thats just gone but have not even seen her at Karaka
