  1. As far as I’m aware he’s from a non horsey background, and dare I say it Wiremu is from a younger generation who probably has no idea this site exists. He’s well aware of his past and if anything he’s trying to move past it and make something of himself. It’s this bad media coverage that discourages young ones from the industry. And why would parents let their kids get involved with the industry especially if they know nothing about racing when there are articles like this portraying the ‘bad boys’ in racing? If anything the media are making a mountain out a molehill.
  2. As for Te Akau, don’t apprentices go to the next level when they leave there! Look at Jasmine Fawcett. Struggled to get rides whilst there and look at her now. Te Akau should stick at what they know best, training horses, not mentoring apprentices.
  3. To go from never riding a horse 2 and half years ago to what he’s done so far, shows he is more than prepared to work hard. Good luck to the kid, it’s a tough game but he’s in the right place like you said. Let’s see where he is in a few years time.
  4. Because knowing Wiremu Pinn, a lot of assumptions have been made in this article. Isnt this industry crying out for young people to be involved? Young ones don’t cope with criticism too well, and this is harsh and unnecessary. And I doubt very much anyone would want to read this about themselves, and be compared to having an attitude like Josh Parr’s. Why not an article about Wiremu venturing South for the first time to ride Oamaru tomorrow?
  5. Who writes this rubbish? Personally I am disgusted by this article, Wiremu is a humble young man, who yes, has gone through his share of hardships in life prior to racing. As far as I am aware, he is focusing on his career and making the most of the opportunities given to him for his young family who are still further north. Why would any young rider with talent want to be in the industry when all that the media can mention of them is negative and not relevant to who they are today, it drives them away, and for someone who only had the chance to be involved with horses and racing due the the premature death of their best mate (as previously reported) isn’t this the last kind of article the need to see regardless of their past which is slightly chequered. Happy to see this young man in the more than capable hands of Allan Sharrock, not only because he will only grow as a rider, horseman and all round person during his time there. Absolutely disgusted, and NZHerald be expecting and email of my complaint in the morning. Such a shame they would rather focus on Wiremus past which he is trying to leave there, and not the present or the future in which is he is very focused on to create the best life for his young family.
