  1. I back horses based on ability regardless of what they’re paying. I had a few grand on Black Caviar in most of her 25 wins including 4K when Luke Nolen’s brain fade nearly cost her her Ascot win. When the bookmaker accepted my bet today he said “I don’t think I’ll be holding on to this for very long.” Yes, in hindsight the horse lost but it wouldn’t change my mind betting on that horse prior to the race because of it’s odds.
  2. Don’t think the soft track suited this boy Ernie but yeah Anthony may want to hold that thought for now.
  3. Thanks Tom. $150 up for the day. She ended up drifting to $4.70 but I’m happy to take some spending money to Sydney. Can’t wait to see Winx for one final time. It’s going to be an emotional day.
  4. I don’t think he handled the soft short stuff. He never really fully stretched out like he did in his maiden win. This mare is a bit more conjusive to the wet. Looking forward to Saturday. Fine & 25 forecast. Track should be unusually good for Sydney this time of year
  5. McEvoy has cost me 2 grand my last 2 bets on him. Sitting 3 wide leading on Classique Legend at Rosehill to go down in the last 2 strides and now this! He’s clearly out of form. He needed to get going a lot sooner with Oliver walking in front and was out sprinted. I need a beer!
  6. TAB opened him $1.50 and here I was thinking we’d get at least $1.55 on course!
  7. Here’s a link of his maiden win https://www.racing.com/news/2019-04-08/news-mcevoy-to-test-chenier-at-sandown
  8. P.S. That’s a pic of the colt Tim Martin paid $1 mill for today at the sales. Chestnut Colt by Snitzel out of Ichihara.
  9. I’m interested to see how He’s Eminent goes after his slasher first up here behind Avilius. This won’t be a walk in the park for her Ohokaman but in saying that I can’t see the fairytale being spoiled like it was for the big O and Lonhro. Missed backing this one today as I was stuck at work in a meeting. This guy used to be a huge punter. He owned a mare in the 70’s that won 20 races and won a huge amount of money back then. So much so that Bill Waterhouse forced him to stay in a motel til Monday before he paid him out!
  10. Field of 9 with the old warhorse Hartnell backing up from the Donnie.
  11. Race 2 #1 Chenier He’s bred in the purple by Medaglia D’oro out of the Oaks placed Zabeel mare Zydeco and is a rare combination that has the ability to match his breeding. In his maiden win 3 weeks ago he sat 5th in a slowly run race, circling them turning for home then bolted in by 5.5 lengths hard held. K Mac is flying down from Sydney especially to ride him and he only rises a kilo in the weights. You’ll need to put plenty on at $1.50 Fixed but it’s better than bank interest. I’ll head out there tomorrow and see if I can find a bookie willing to take him on but it’s highly unlikely. Enjoy!
  12. Hey Rusty, My great uncle Merv Corner used to be President of the Auckland Trotting Club. We had a family reunion there many years ago (I was too young to know about horses & punting then). I had a Waikato University excursion, when I was living in one of the Halls of Residence there, to the Cambridge Trots one night. That was my first personal direct contact with horses and punting and I’ve never looked back since. I remember backing Terminating at Alexandra Park one night. I had $10 each way paying 10s and was so excited I nearly pulled a muscle my back. I’ve been to Gloucester Park in Perth and to Melton a few times in Melbourne. Love the trots!
  13. P.S. Tombolo has since come out and won at Tamworth Friday last week franking the form. Good luck
  14. Scone Race 4 #3 Duchess of Lennox I had $400 to win on Tombolo in her last race and she kicked 4 lengths clear at the 150m only to be swamped late by Duchess of Lennox who came from a minute back and only got warm in the last 100m. The step up to 1600m is perfect and this filly should go on to bigger and better things in town after today. Enjoy
  15. Imagine what Winx would’ve done to that field today Red Rum after what she did to Brutal a couple of weeks ago. It’s crazy to think just how good she is. One to go. It’s going to be an emotional farewell.
  16. Good positive ride by Bossy using his light weight to put him in the race from the car park. Hartnell was gallant in defeat but no match for the first 2.
  17. How much you putting on him Barry? I just got nabbed on the line with Mr Quickie
  18. I couldn’t have Life Less Ordinary here Red Rum. Hartnell is what Hay List was to Black Caviar. There’s no Winx in this race though and finishing runner up to the second best horse in Australia at his previous start is good form for this.
