Seems to me that the people that are running their kennels like a business are doing pretty well, looking after owners, being paid to train dogs with a small stakes bonus as opposed to opting for 50/50 deals and the like.  These people know their incomings and outgoings and sleep well knowing that they don’t have to run the legs off their dogs to stay afloat.
p.s - who wouldn’t like a great strike rate?  As an owner I would love to know that my dogs are being well placed and looked after rather than just going around at every meeting with my fingers crossed!

Sorry GOM, Given that you specifically asked about the metal shavings and that is what I was responding to I assumed it would be obvious that was what the handful contained.
..and yes while I believe you are being facetious I agree that there probably are very few trainers that would run a strong 375m..

Forget “It’s a bad look” - it’s an absolute disgrace!
It doesn’t matter what industry it is, if it was someone with a car load of poodles - it’s complete negligence and who ever is responsible should be in court and out of the industry FULL STOP.
Anyone that makes excuses or allowances for this type of negligence is as bad as those responsible in my opinion.

That is kind of like a mother who’s baby has been fried in a hot car saying “ I’ve left her in the car unattended hundreds of times and she’s never died before....”

I’m not sure how slowly I have to explain this to you GOM but the case HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED AND TWO PEOPLE HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITH NEGLIGENCE.
You are right about one thing though GOM - Five dogs suffocating in a vehicle - clearly something out of the ordinary did happen!!!!!
I do not know who is responsible but clearly someone is and it needs to be dealt with sternly.

I think Dusty Gambler could clock a pretty quick time on his own but I think the Craig Roberts team will have the wood on him - they don’t break the Addington track record every day!!
Luckily the races are called off today at Auckland, I can’t imagine any dog could be expected to run a decent time in the weather they are experiencing up there!

Seems to me you are the only one that does not understand the wording.
The important part is “eligible to race at 20th June”
If they are going to allow this dog to run then GRNZ needs to reopen Noms for all the other dogs that could have nominated to your interpretation of the rule.
p.s You keep mentioning Riding shotgun - although I can’t work out why - he was correctly qualified at the time of nomination closing!!

GOM how do you police this, I was once in a syndicate of a dog that had bad eye sight (can’t remember what it was called) so the trainer was careful to only race her in the day time, under your suggestion she not be nominated when the time changed due to the trainer having already nominated other dogs for the meeting?
If the Noms are reopened in any code then it’s only fair that they are opened for one and all - who are you to try to name and shame when no one is doing anything wrong!
You are right Flabby that Walsh didn’t add any dogs to the heats, I know this because they advertised which races were redrawn and those two heats weren’t!

Hey Gom. Just looking at comments that have been made and not necessarily by you. I'm not making a case for either side. I re-read the published appeal decision last night. There were a number of admissions made by DS. In your last sentence, you say 'bet he never envisaged it would be him having to get rid of all his dogs." The disqualification rules are quite clear in that regard. You cannot own, race, train, or breed a registered grey for the duration of your disqualification. That rule has stood for some time now. As a license holder, you are prohibited from associating with a disqualified person. However, the dogs were permitted to be transferred to a family member which meant any income earned from those dogs post DQ went back to that relationship. The RIU has no powers to force anyone from a property, only the police can do that. There had to be some type of agreement between the current property owner and those who issue the new training license in order for the dogs to be trained from that property. The property owner had the right to tenant the property as he/she wished, he or she would have to agree to any proposal put forward, and I assume that is what happened. As no licensed trainer resided at the property prior to the DQ taking effect, a new trainer would have to be found. For the property to be re-licensed restrictions may have been imposed and agreed to. Remember, the dogs could have gone to other properties to be trained by one or more new trainers. All details should have been sorted during the extension period to ensure a smooth transition. That appears not to have happened. The trainer engaged has now departed. GOM to my knowledge, a person who has been warned off cannot live on a property that is registered for the purposes of training or breeding registered greyhounds. As always I base my opinion and it is just my opinion, on the rules that currently exist and the published JCA transcript.
I may or may not renew my license come July, currently in two minds. If I do, I will sign the declaration accepting the T's and C's. If I do, I will be locked into abiding by the rules as set out. Had we not signed away all of our rights, maybe we would have some power to correct any possible injustices that may exist. But that's a whole new thread.

Fantastic race!  I backed the winner so may be slightly biased
Having said that I have since watched the replay a few times and am very relieved TTE stepped out in front of Dusty on the home turn as he was swooping passed at a great rate, looked like he was about to put 6/8L on them but instead lost 5-6 - momentum withstanding!!
Cyborg was shuffled back a few lengths early in the race so was also hindered which could have resulted in a different result.
I couldn’t find too many excuses for the beaten runners behind them so I think that even though the first 3 placings could have finished in a different order they were the best 3 there so deserved the spoils!
My pocket is very pleased it was RTB’s day
