  1. I agree with you on this White poodle, I am a passionate animal lover myself, I have pet dogs and cats and also shares in racing dogs. While I love to see my dogs compete my priority as an owner is always welfare first and my trainers know this. I believe that there are a very small portion of breeders - only 3-4 in the country that are acting irresponsibly and selfishly. I know that GRNZ have tried to address this but have met conflict from breeders, concerned only with their immediate pocket rather than the longevity of the sport & the long term welfare of their dogs. I hope in the New Year that GRNZ can show some strength - get their lawyers involved if necessary and get these few under control for the good of us all - but especially our dogs.
  2. I’m sorry GOM I didn’t realise I couldn’t show an interest in my industry, I don’t train any dogs so have no intentions of providing them with any substances, was merely interested in the process. I have never been one to just follow brainlessly along without investigating the “why” Personally I’m all for as much testing as is required to keep our industry is above board.
  3. I believe there were a large number of dogs blood tested at Auckland recently and rumour is there will be more on Christmas Eve, just curious - what are they looking for that isn’t traceable in a urine swab? I have heard it is the only way to find EPO but I was wondering if there are other substances that require blood analysis for identification ?
  4. I was thinking more of the dogs sitting in cars and trailers for 5-6 hrs in the parking lot, it might only be 28-30 degrees but I’m sure it would be a heck of a lot hotter sitting on the asphalt.
  5. Sitting at home on this fine holiday watching Palmerston North dogs I found myself wondering this.. With summer coming on fast how do the dogs cope sitting in trailers on asphalt car parks for hours at a time? Is it responsible to card 13-15 race meetings in this weather when there is not sufficient shade to park under?
  6. He’s young to me! well done Mark, fantastic litter you’ve got and always a smiling face on course.
  7. Fantastic night out, extremely positive vibe with all attendees appearing to have a great night! - well worth the trip up! Congratulations to all award winners, it’s a tough game and any successes are well deserved.
  8. Seems to me that the people that are running their kennels like a business are doing pretty well, looking after owners, being paid to train dogs with a small stakes bonus as opposed to opting for 50/50 deals and the like. These people know their incomings and outgoings and sleep well knowing that they don’t have to run the legs off their dogs to stay afloat. p.s - who wouldn’t like a great strike rate? As an owner I would love to know that my dogs are being well placed and looked after rather than just going around at every meeting with my fingers crossed!
  9. Sorry GOM, Given that you specifically asked about the metal shavings and that is what I was responding to I assumed it would be obvious that was what the handful contained. ..and yes while I believe you are being facetious I agree that there probably are very few trainers that would run a strong 375m..
  10. I don’t think the club had a say in the abandonment, it was an riu decision
  11. Having not been on course for some times (years) I couldn’t say for sure but I did notice on tv that the dogs that are wider on the track certainly seemed to be kicking up a lot more sand then the inside dogs (yes I am bitter about losing my money! ) and we’re struggling to keep pace, seemed to me it wasn’t compacted equally or lacked water out wide.
  12. Not sure who Taylor is GOM but maybe she has more info than me, I was led to believe that the Cambridge track have had remedial work performed on the rail during the down time, maybe they were drilling screw holes or something along those lines? Apparently one of the stipes had picked up a handful of them while walking around the track - regardless of the varying pentrometer readings I should think that in itself would be enough to put any trainer off running on it?
  13. From what I was told last night the stipes made the call that the track was deemed unsafe due to the pentrometer readings varying dramatically with some of the readings being well over 40 which is an automatic “abandon “ on race day together with a large amount of metal shavings being found on the track along the rail from the recent remedial work. The decision was made to abandon Thursday’s meeting and implemented well before any trainers arrived on track. The stewards advised that the trials be abandoned and most trainers accepted this and left as did the starter/track curator but a few took it upon themselves to start and run their own trials so I strongly doubt the stewards could be held responsible for this should any dog be injured.
  14. ...and yet is a finalist for the “we love our dogs” award Come on GRNZ and you trying to wind us up????
  15. May I suggest you read it again. Two quotes from the article: “One of the country’s top greyhound trainers has been charged with negligence after 5 of his dogs died from suffocation “ ”Mcinerney and the driver of the van had since been charged with negligence “ I don’t doubt for a minute that whoever was responsible for the dogs welfare at the time are beside themselves and are deeply regretful, unfortunately that won’t bring those poor dogs back or lessen the horror they went through.
  16. That is kind of like a mother who’s baby has been fried in a hot car saying “ I’ve left her in the car unattended hundreds of times and she’s never died before....”
  17. I’m not sure how slowly I have to explain this to you GOM but the case HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED AND TWO PEOPLE HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITH NEGLIGENCE. You are right about one thing though GOM - Five dogs suffocating in a vehicle - clearly something out of the ordinary did happen!!!!! I do not know who is responsible but clearly someone is and it needs to be dealt with sternly.
  18. Forget “It’s a bad look” - it’s an absolute disgrace! It doesn’t matter what industry it is, if it was someone with a car load of poodles - it’s complete negligence and who ever is responsible should be in court and out of the industry FULL STOP. Anyone that makes excuses or allowances for this type of negligence is as bad as those responsible in my opinion.
  19. Fantastic! Nothing brings hopeful new participants into any sport/industry than the dream of winning “the big one” well done nsw, makes me want to dash out and buy a few more pups!!
  20. So wanganui is going to have a vet on course for the Thursday trial meeting - well done, can’t see a negative in that. Hopefully all race day trials will still continue so all needs are met. I can see however the issue with all 3 trial options being 3 days in a row, those that don’t have their own tracks to build fitness may use the trials as fitness runs, are probably down to one run a week unless they wish to trial twice in a 3 day period?
  21. I think Dusty Gambler could clock a pretty quick time on his own but I think the Craig Roberts team will have the wood on him - they don’t break the Addington track record every day!! Luckily the races are called off today at Auckland, I can’t imagine any dog could be expected to run a decent time in the weather they are experiencing up there!
  22. Surely races are open to everyone to nominate, I can’t imagine any trainer can control whether or not they are the only one that decides to??
  23. Seems to me you are the only one that does not understand the wording. The important part is “eligible to race at 20th June” If they are going to allow this dog to run then GRNZ needs to reopen Noms for all the other dogs that could have nominated to your interpretation of the rule. p.s You keep mentioning Riding shotgun - although I can’t work out why - he was correctly qualified at the time of nomination closing!!
  24. You are right Hairy, I remember last year Dave Fayhey having to get his runner requalified before the nomination date so it would be eligible to nominate - luckily he did coz it ended up winning the series!
  25. I assume that somewhere there is a constantly updating list of the nominated dogs trial/race times, can someone tell me where i can view please? It is an exciting series but only if we can follow it and see what’s going on!
