  1. It IS really sad to lose another of the colourful characters who helped make Racing the Great Game it is/was.

Remembering Nigel rode when there were 20 Group 1 jockeys riding on any given day.

And there would be 5 or 6 waiting in the jockeys room while a race was run.

You had to fight and cajole your way through the ranks if you wanted to make it.

Great N B Holland story, I once said to my hero D J Riordan that Norm was such a lovely gentleman.

"Now he is but when we were riding he was an absolute ****

Us apprentices would ride a nice horse and Norm would be straight to the Trainer, "O that horse needs a senior rider, and I'm available next start""

Looks like ND survived one of NB's best.

Nigel as a trainer will always be remembered for the feats of the tiny gutsy Avitt.

The Our Waverley Star story had slipped my mind , that's a story in itself ..

Great memories of another character lost

It certainly proved how unreliable it is yesterday - floundering very quickly.  Maybe it needs to jump some fences. Like so many mediocre horses...

It was looking very promising as a weighted special pre Tauranga race too!

But hey, there are big mouths here who have a love affair with their Tab, and my thought provoking comments have tired them and I've been told to shut it.  Apparently the bullies are inferring I have no right to comment (as I'm doing here) or respond to my thread for your post.  Their so used to being abused by their beloved TAB who they have a love/hate relationship depending on their results.

We (rightly) concluded he was an exceptional place bet at $2.80 to end our multi's.  Someone else knew better...Like the bullying big-mouths that come across as so superior and entitled here. IMHO, based entirely on their judgements (of course) very likely gambling addicts.

    Hey Kunty,

I have no love or loyalty or sympathy to the NZ TAB but they have NO DEDUCTIONS !!!!FFs , surely that must sway you into betting with them.

I, and many friends ,both here and overseas are bamboozled at this ruling.

Make hay while the sun shines we all say.

Put Arjay's Flight down to the one that got away , but please please please , Savage the TAB re their no deductions !!

The problem is this...there is NOTHING anywhere (except the TAB's liability on this horse) to warrant such an investigation - there were no comments in the stewards report (we were sure there would be - even if only a "please explain" ) no vet check, nothing.

The punters (apparently astute money) were left wondering and to make up their own minds...

Look, we've been around a few decades and seen the many ways a horse can be beaten - but this race was different.  Pre race, ALL the stars were aligning in the horses favour, for multiple reasons.

We've won (and lost) of course, but to date, our major collects have all been on Australian outcomes where there was no possibility of pre-race intervention.  We aren't sore losers, not at all, it's horse racing, but this result wasn't a natural one, it benefitted others, but not us the punter.

Hi Cantgetabeton ( Sorry I don’t like the spelling of your title/name)

I have read all your comments and what you are saying is that the horse wasn’t allowed to race on its merits. (Pulled up in other words)

If you really believe that, put a complaint into the Racing Integrity Bureau.

When you get the official response/report please post it here.

Then we will know if we are dealing with fact or fiction.

    Hi Kunty ,

Can you please do this and make the farkn useless RIB do some real work if what you say is even half true.

I mean they nailed INCA so I'm sure they can pot the TAB for paying jockeys to hook a horse

Over the 25-year arrangement, the proposed terms have the potential to deliver a total uplift in payments to racing and sports of c.NZ$5.0 billion relative to the counterfactual of TAB NZ’s declining commercial performance due to intense international competition and historic under investment in the business in key areas like retail, technology, broadcast and operations

Holy fuk , can you read this again !

    "proposed'

    "potential"

    "total uplift"

    "racing AND sports"

    "relative"

and what about .... wait for it ...

    "COUNTERFACTUAL"

I smell a rat, I really hope not but we've been chutneyed before so nothing surprises punters anymore.

I want it to work I resally do, but Mike Tod , one D, has only been in the job 5 minutes are as some of those other board members and that doesn't sit well with me ...

  6. Sharp N Smart took NZ Racing to a new level in the Derby.

Imperatriz although run down by late by a top liner did NZ proud.

And then MY GOD !!! LEGARTO !!!!

I don''t know how many times I've watched the race but that has to be one of the most remarkable performances I've ever seen in a Group 1 in Australia, let alone by a 3yo Kiwi filly.

Feeling pretty emotional right now , and what makes it even more so , still have Levante and Tokyo Tycoon to look forward to, amongst others..

I imagine if someone signed up to work for an organisation that had been Wgtn based for its entire history they would get a hell of a shock to be suddenly told it is all moving to a country town in the Waikato with extremely high house prices. They would have every right to be pissed off and seek some compensation.

So I imagine they will lose a lot of their experienced workers, with big redundancy payouts, and have to take on lots of inexperienced staff from Cambridge. I can just see that going well.

A lot of people quite like Wgtn, I can't see them being happy to move North in these times of climate change with the northern regions becoming a high risk environment.

For people used to frequenting Courtenay Place, the idea of being forced to move somewhere where a big weekend out is to choose between Hamilton and Morrinsville must be a bit of a shock.

Exactly what happened with Trackside , used to be based at Avalon, lost some good people when they moved it to Parnell.

For starters should have gone to the Waikato, funny how they ended up in a Nelson Schick owned commercial building in Parnell... eh Chris Bayliss you flog
