You always have to ask the question if you are selling on what our main market Australia's perception of a stallion is.
My experience is that they remember the performances of a horse in the better Group One races.
If you are not selling then it does't matter!

cmon tab $40,000 this weekend on of the biggest days of the year at trentham at least its not 20,000 like most other weeks. the quaddie has a $25,000 bonus so you would have to be a mug to take a pick 6

There's always a number 1 saddlecloth in the handicap. How often is there a number 19?

Tomjr reacted to La Zip in Auckland Cup result
I thought yesterday’s Auckland Cup result was one for the grass roots brigade....a Dylan Thomas beat a Domesday...great finish.  Poor old Dylan had to endure the hype of being a Coolmore stallion...oh, the pressure....and Domesday raced by the Ingrams....and is now part of the Aquis stable via Darley.

Tomjr reacted to Yir Tiz in Chautauqua....has he had enough....???
Just announced on RACENET that he is off to Melbourne and  has to trial there, they are hoping the change of scenery will do the trick!. Had to smile at this comment that someone had in comments....
An open letter from Chautauqua to his connections:-
    Dear connections,
I know that sometimes you think I’m being difficult or stubborn or just plain quirky, and that at this very moment you all feel like pulling your hair out, but actually I’m still a very sensitive creature, and I want you all to realise that I’m actually trying to tell you something very important.
I’ve had enough...yep, you read this correctly. I’m tired. No more early mornings for me. I want to feel the soft grass under my hooves and the wind in my mane.
I may decide in the future to help out the young rascals on the track and guide them as clerk of the course, but I will do it on my terms when I’m good and ready.
I want to retire. If you feel like running, then by all means you give it a go.
Please remember I thank you all for the thrills of the racing scene, but I’m hanging up my shoes for good.
    With kindest regards as always,
    Your Chautauqua xx

It is really simple, we still breed good stayers, its just the world values them more than we do.  If you have a promising horse going through the grades and an offer comes from offshore, you would be a mug not to sell.  Why stay here and race for chump change? The costs of racing a horse in Australia are not too different to here, the stakes are far better.  Our handicapping and race classification penalised you if you have an Ohcp horse that isn't quite up to WFA.
The programming folks pulled our R65 2100m we have in July and replaced it with an Open 1400m (a race we discarded because of a lack of noms).  We have just had a battle with them and by the sounds of it have the former race back.  This industry is full of passionate capable people that do great anywhere in the world, its just a shame we make it so hard for them to make it here.

Tomjr reacted to eastern whipbird in Jeanette Broome RIP
I sadly report that Jeanette Broome died yesterday. She created history as a breeder by breeding not only a Melbourne Cup winner, Jezabeel, but also the winner of the Aintree Grand National in England, Seagram.  I am  sure that no other Kiwi , or for that matter anyone anywhere has ever achieved that feat.

She beat home NZ's two leading jockeys (Chris Johnson & Samantha Collett).
This sort of thing can happen in small fields...getting a squeeze for one or two strides is all it takes to snooker you.
In hindsight from a grandstand jockey she probably could have attacked the leader on the turn....but you must make a split second decision at that instant.

    Put it down to experience.

Tomjr got a reaction from Pam Robson in Simon says "the whip rule is a farce"
Really? How about KFE?  Our industry is too small not to have people covering multiple roles.  I am in the administration side of things and I am also an owner and a breeder, would you like me not to enter my own horses at our meetings?  Really you all spend far too much time looking for reasons to attack people that have done well in our industry (and to be fair its not an easy one to make a living in).  Alan Sharrock gets bagged to hell in here, but he has a great record for training top horses, how many of you have trained one G1 winner let alone what he has.  As long as we continue to navel gaze and look for reasons to cut each other down we will continue to lose our best and brightest overseas (race callers, jockeys, trainers, presenters, horses and track work riders).  Would love to see the time and energy we put into the "Great Kiwi Knocking Machine" go into addressing falling attendances, crap stakes money etc.
