Pegasus 9 reacted to Insider in Charity Competition over next weekend - Trentham Sat 13th & Ellerslie Sun 14th
I am thrilled to advise that $665.00 has been deposited into the Huntington Association's bank account late this afternoon.
$300 of the $650 came from Scooby's very generous donation  of $300.00, irrespective of how the bets went. [See the posting immediately above]
Montydrum [2nd] though had a wining bet, and that made up the other $365.00.
Sadly we didn't do so well at the Karaka Meeting, where even Legarto couldn't do it for us, but that's the way it is sometimes.
I really want to thank first and foremost Scooby for allowing me to run and sponsor the competition on Race Cafe, but more importantly bring attention to the terrible disease that Huntington's is and raise [hopefully] some money for them, while at the same time have fun.
John [Say No More] is not only a great scorer, but also totally supportive of the cause too. Thank you John.
Finally thank you to everyone who joined in the competition, especially the placegetters for their attempts at making money.
    Liz

“Surface tension”  the cause of the problem according to Wilcox, meaning the track does not accept water.
They did the coring of the track on the Monday, should have been done on Friday and there would have been no problems.
Strathayr coming back to oversee the required work in the next couple of weeks.
Ken Kelso wasn’t too impressed as Legarto was one that lost her footing, but no injuries to anyone was the positive.

Pegasus 9 reacted to MissJools in Hannan cleared of serious injury following fall.
    From Loveracing.nz:

Expat Kiwi apprentice jockey Kelsey Hannan has been cleared of any serious injury following a fall in South Australia on Sunday.
Hannan was riding Iva Dream in the opening race at Strathalbyn when her mount appeared to clip heels 50m after the finishing line, dislodging Hannan.
She was subsequently flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital and placed in an induced coma, which she has since come out of, and has been diagnosed with a stable fracture of her C1 Vertebrae.
“Apprentice jockey Kelsey Hannan has been cleared of any serious injury following her fall at Strathalbyn yesterday,” Racing SA said in a statement.
“She has been diagnosed with a stable fracture in her C1 vertebrae and has not suffered any spinal cord damage. We anticipate that she will be released from hospital within the next 24 hours.
“On behalf of her family and the entire riding group, our thanks go to the team at the Royal Adelaide Hospital for their outstanding care of Kelsey and to the wider racing community for their messages of love and support.”
Hannan had only recently returned to raceday riding, having recovered from a broken jaw she sustained in a trackwork incident in October.
Hannan began her career in New Zealand and entered a nail-biting contest with Tayla Mitchell for last season’s New Zealand apprentice jockeys’ premiership, ending the season just one win in arrears of her rival.
Hannan followed suit with a number of other Kiwi apprentices early in the new season and crossed the Tasman to test out the waters in the competitive racing jurisdiction, and ultimately decided to remain in South Australia to further her riding career.

Article in paper edition of Herald this morning by Mick Guerin.
    Quote from Paul Wilcox:
"First thing first, we absolutely admit it was not ideal but we were unlucky with the rain, which can make any firm surface more slippery than you would like"
"But we're dealing with a new track that everybody loved at the first meeting and the new surface is still settling down, which it will continue to do for another year"
"That means the top had what was described to me as 'surface tension' and that caused the issue"
"The bottom line is it wasn't good enough but the Jockeys were comfortable still racing and obviously we didn't try and convince them either way, that was between them and the stewards".
Wilcox says he and his team will work with Stewards and, if needed, Jockeys to test the track if that is deemed necessary before the next meeting and they want to have things more settled for the Cup meeting.

Great to see JMac in NZ and winning both the big races yesterday at the Karaka Million meeting. Well done to him. Hopefully we will see him more in NZ now.  The best in the World. And he is such a really nice person, modest, charming and totally genuine. Great ambassador for NZ and the Industry.

That's what i thought as well .Let the race go and call the horse who did not leave stalls a late scratching. Far too logical i suppose

Couldn't be determined ??? .. so it could happen again then. That's a cop out, and quite frankly an appalling conclusion. You must determine what happened so to avoid it happening again for faarks sake. Once again sweeping it under the carpet.

Pegasus 9 reacted to MissJools in Kelsey Hannan in Hospital after racefall.
    From Racing.com:
Strathalbyn’s Sunday meeting has been postponed after Kelsey Hannan was taken to hospital following a fall past the post in the opening event of the day.
Hannan’s mount, Grant Young’s Iva Dream, appeared to clip heels and hit the deck around 50 metres after the finish line, throwing the 21-year-old over the front.
Reports say Hannan was slipping in and out of consciousness but was able to move her legs and squeeze people’s hands, complaining of neck pain when responsive.
The talented Kiwi apprentice was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in an induced coma and a neck brace, with further updates on her condition to follow. The other jockey's riding at the Strathalbyn race meeting took a vote and elected to withdraw their services for the rest of the meeting,   The remaining 7 races will be run this Friday, at a venue to be decided.

He has said he is happy with the way it’s working for now. Based in Sydney, obviously with family, riding at the big carnivals in Melbourne, Brisbane and now hopefully NZ. And the added bonus is being able to fly in to Hong Kong and ride there and then fly out. Best of both worlds at the moment..

    I really like your thoughts.
For the first 3 hours I thought that it started very slowly, almost a bloodbath given the time and efford that the breeders put in. however after that it picked up.
The passing rate was initially huge but I noticed that a few hours later, many of the passed lots had actually found a home.
I think that there have been some bargains go through and for the record I have already approached Michael Freedman/Mick Wallace to see if I can buy into Lot 214.

I would much prefer that he stayed in Sydney and did the great carnivals of NSW, Victoria, Queensland and of course our own one here in January such as last night.
P.S. Hopefully the track though levels out, otherwise I dont link too many big time jockeys will be interested on riding on it in the neat future.

Brilliant NZ Derby win.  Seemed to be jogging at the top of the straight and then at the 200m mark looked very vulnerable but dug deep to win going away.

Sadly Jimmy Choux has been humanely euthanised earlier this week as he was suffering from nose cancer. From Loveracing.nz website:

28 January  One of the cult heroes of New Zealand racing has passed away with news coming through that former Gr.1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) winner and successful stallion Jimmy Choux was humanely euthanised earlier in the week.
The multiple Group One winner was the standout story of racing in New Zealand during the 2011 calendar year where he captured four Group One titles and went within a length of a fifth when finishing runner-up to Pinker Pinker in the Gr.1 Cox Plate (2040m) of that year.
His accomplishments for owners and breeders Richard and Liz Wood put fledgling trainer John Bary and former jumps jockey turned flat rider Jonathan Riddell on the map, with Bary quick to pay tribute to his mate and stable star.
“We got the news from his home at Rosalee Park Stud in Western Australia on Tuesday that he had to be humanely euthanized as he was suffering from nose cancer,” Bary said.
“It certainly brought back some very special memories as he was such a lovely horse, a great character and he put a novice trainer and battling former jumps jockey on the map.
“The support he had from the general public was quite amazing as they really seemed to take him to heart and he returned that affection by trying his heart out every time we lined him up.
“He wasn’t a natural talent but he had a big heart and big brain which meant he did things that a lot of horses couldn’t do. It would be great to have a few more like him in the stable.”
Bary nominated his 2011 New Zealand Derby win as one of his fondest memories and was philosophical about the lowlight which was the narrow defeat in the Cox Plate later that year.
“He gave me my first stakes victory when he won the Wakefield Challenge Stakes at Trentham (Gr.2, 1200m) and then in his three-year-old season he won the Derby which was worth $2.2million at the time, which was just enormous for us all.
“He went close to becoming the first horse to complete the Triple Crown at Hastings as he finished runner up in the Makfi Challenge Stakes (Gr.1, 1400m) before winning the next two legs,” he said.
“We took him to Australia for the Cox Plate and he went so close to winning that day.
“Jonathan rode a ten out of ten race that day and we got beaten by an eleven out of eleven effort by Craig Williams on Pinker Pinker.”
Following his successful racetrack career Jimmy Choux found his way to Rich Hill Stud at Walton in the Waikato where he produced Group One winners The Bostonian and Two Illicit amongst his five individual stakes winners.
“Jimmy was with us for eight seasons after his racetrack career,” Rich Hill principal John Thompson said.
“He was an easy horse to promote as he had such a following and he left some very nice horses without quite reaching the heights we wanted him to.
“He had The Bostonian and Two Illicit but was probably a very good bread and butter stallion and it is sad to hear about his demise as he was a lovely horse to have around the farm.
“The breeders here didn’t want to support him in the end but he found a lovely home in West Australia.”
Jimmy Choux won twelve of his 26 starts and more than $3.6million during his career on the track and produced 141 individual winners from his time at stud.
