Berri and Poundforpound both remind me of Aristotle, that famous Greek philosopher.

    Both are excellent men.

Aristotle once said that "there is a mixture of madness in the most excellent of men."

Okay, so those two each have a double mixture; let it go.  They enhance this site more than anybody else, with the exception of Stodge.

Not sure why you’ve brought me into this …

Does it make a difference to you if he has or has not raced a horse/ horses to his opinions??

    Of course it does

When I’m watching rugby I typically want top ex players commenting

When I’m watching cricket I typically want top ex players commenting

Every niller has a right to their opinion, but if you’re going to proclaim your expertise in a certain field you should simultaneously declare your credentials…..otherwise you’re just another Tommo aren’t you ?

    That’s how life works isn’t it ?

It’s not an unreasonable expectation …it’s all about credibility surely

A general question for you all to consider.

At what point should a gifted horseman get punished for cruelty to animals?

    What a stupid comment

What he did with a padded whip is not cruelty, any more than racing horses in itself is cruelty

Using spurs is cruelty, using a jigger is cruelty, preparing an unsafe track is cruelty, not feeding a horse properly is cruelty, racing unfit horses is cruelty……chicken farming is cruelty, pig farming is cruelty, keeping goldfish is cruelty, fishing in any form is cruelty, detaining animals in zoos is cruelty……watching Trackside is usually cruelty…..help me understand where the demarcation lines are please

In my opinion both are good and valued posters,  can say what they like, does not mean that either one is 100% correct all the time, that is for the rest of the readers and posters to decide...both of them have a point of view and both are very welcome to post their opinions here whether they are seen to be right or wrong by others.

Noted, but one of them has serious international credibility, he’s connected across the globe, and all he did was make a 💯 correct observation about a high profile horse, then he got coruscated for it …scorched….for no reason other than that he knew more than the “cut and paste” dude

I got the same treatment when I quite innocently referenced the same global participant about a minor unimportant matter, purely because I knew of his expertise in the field

It seems to me that a “cut and paste” expert now decides who can comment on what…despite the fact he’s done nothing ( known ) of note in the UK …and if he isn’t given number 1 status about all matters pertaining to NH racing he acts like a tantrum throwing spoilt child

I read what he writes, and it’s my view that his knowledge of tracks etc is very limited and not worth reading, usually he’s just wrong about track / race nuances etc …his knowledge of active horses is quite good though so credit where it’s due there although I suspect 99% of his knowledge is straight from the Racing Post or Sporting Life, rather than actual experience

Personally I think everyone is entitled to their opinion here, even the absolute nillers and saddle sniffers like Tommo and Sunloonchild, but from recent events involving BerriFruit and Tasman Man I’m starting to wonder if the bias is now toward the groupies, the saddle sniffing nillers who’ve done nothing of note, at the expense of those who’ve actually managed to achieve significantly at the highest level in racing, mostly in Australasia, but in some cases across the globe

If you doubt my view let’s agree that the “cut and paste” expert can present his credentials, hopefully he’s done something of note, BerriFruit can do the same, ditto Tasman Man, then let’s see who should be telling who what to do in this zoo

Let’s start with who’s done what in and around the Melbourne Cup, seeing as it’s our hemispheres highest profile race

Just my thoughts Scooby, but as usual I’m correct

At last....someone else gets it...I thought I was going mad

I got it, as most acute observers did

I still haven’t forgotten his childish outburst when I referenced you for an expert opinion about a minor NH racing matter …. when he claimed sole rights to opinions on NH racing and demanded I acknowledge his historical “cut & paste” efforts

Apparently only certain individuals are allowed opinions here on certain matters ….very woke… very Labour … “you have the right think and say what you wish as long as it’s consistent with what we tell you to say and think !!!”

It's up to Billy yo deal with his 'fraiIties', not the RIU or anyone else. He has said the right thing in media interviews (personal accountability etc)...tremendous potential, we all know that ...but many great jockeys before him have stuffed up, taken their punishment and grown from the experience on the sidelines ...

And many have been abused and victimized too, CWJ, Sam Spratt…..to name a couple

Racing history is littered with jockeys with frailties, across the globe …..but you manage them, you don’t abuse them ….they’re not a species you hunt because you want a trophy on the wall FFS

Wiremu Pinn is due back after Thursday 15 September. I'll be watching and listening with interest, the kid can ride.

And a small bitter man ( in every way ) from the RIB will be trying to hunt Billy down again

It’s pathetic how they can’t deal with Billy’s frailties whilst simultaneously allowing him to blossom into the great rider he’s inevitably going to be

    Why? Who tipped it?

You of course, you’re just morphing into another Tommo

You declare it rather ambivalently, then if it wins you claim you had your entire net worth on it ( hardly enough to fill my car up ) but if it loses you “just watched on”

All we need now is for you to say you caught the tram home with Moody, and sat on his knee half the trip

I went to the Auckland Grammar School ball with Brownie’s daughter Lucy. His wife Toni is best friend’s with my mother and Brownie owned a kiwi fruit farm in Kerikeri many years ago with my father.
I caught up with Brownie a couple of months ago while over in NZ visiting my mother in the Far North. He has a smart brain with a proven track record and will make an excellent Auckland Mayor.

    That’s him fxxked then

  11. Thanks to those supporting me

    My decision was purely strategic

If I’d stayed in the race Efeso would’ve won easily

Our high level polling said I had my hardcore populist 25% vote locked in, but no support from the undecided so I couldn’t win

If I’d stayed in beyond lunchtime yesterday my name could not be removed from the ballot papers ….and given my very high name recognition I’d still have attracted about 30,000 votes…because that’s how superficial local body politics is, they vote for you just because they recognize your name

The issue there was that my 30,000 votes would’ve seriously diminished the chances of any other centre right candidate, and handed the win to Efeso and  Labour

Given that this once great city is on its knees now, and no other centre right candidate would stand down, I wasn’t prepared to risk the future of the city, and following on from that the future of the country in next years general election because the country will follow what happens in Auckland

I might add that I’m still very much a player here, there’s a lot more juice left in this orange …..

And TM takes the Winter Cup....

Indeed, for my old mates Bevan Wilson..from Dunstan..he’s 5 days older than me….and Robyn ( née Cochrane )

Today feels like a step back in time …old style racing with the cream rising to the top

And now Ellis Winsloe wins the last…I was first jockey for his father Ted for a while …I ride 14 winners that Ted trained and owned, yes owned, with his mates, as in had shares in, in one racing calendar year ….and the old bugger only gave me one modest sling

It’s a bit of a nostalgia day today I have to say

  13. Today is our day to shine

    How good is Riccarton ?
Dummy and Mark Oulaghan ( West Coast is a nice big horse, good action for a jumper too, might be really good on decent ground ….Cheltenham or Melbourne ?? ) .so old school those two, so humble, but so great at what they do

    Special mentions

The young lady who rode a winner for Paul Harris, Temyia Taiaroa ( any relation to Arnold ? ) the joy on her face was palpable

Pitty, I love his pithy rants, says it how it is and gives anyone and everyone a spray ..unless you’re producing a track like concrete, or SH1, then you’re exempt

Terry Moseley…a face like a well kept grave …but the epitome of a real genuine Kiwi battler

Tim Mills, 63 years in the role and he still loves the job ….

A shout out to Russell Mcara , going back a few years here but they said on telly that he’s pretty crook….good little fella is Russell…in the Wingatui style :) hope you’re ok champ

And finally, to the 12 people who turned up to the races, go you, you are troopers
