What frustrates me with the TAB is that while the turnover is down against budget the expenses are up against budget. That’s the one thing that they can control and they haven’t done it. (Quoted from their latest report released recently)
I sympathise with NZTR in where they find themselves, but what are they doing to rattle the TAB’s cage or is that not their job?

If you didn't know already Nomates has a share in Wild Night who was narrowly beaten in Karaka millions. Congrats to him for his successes but what's the future for him. Is he going to Derby or is Ozzie beckoning or both?

The lad's list makes terrible reading I have to admit, and I think it's fair to list them. Sales past are littered with high priced lots doing zilch, bought for Aussie, Japan by leading judges of horseflesh and breeding.   David has purchased 26 so far, there will be some handy types, some top liners, probably a top 2yo and 3yo, but all the while they will be hoping for a champion. Good luck to them.  It;s a fickle business getting it right, you may get the breeding correct, but the thing don't gallop fast enough, then we have champs from the depths like Bonecrusher. As a kid growing up in Canterbury a stallion arrived by an english derby winner out of an english oaks winner. All and sundry thought this was going to be the next big thing, alas possibly the poorest performing stallion to ever grace our shores. His Name    We Dont Know, and that's how it is still today.

Remember the story of a fella who purchased zarzino at the dispersal broodmare sale,  turned out her last foal before been sold was tarzino, he paid 1500$ for zarzino, and the first foal he bred from her sold to Australia for a big price, was called bulwark from memory, may have only won one race, luck plays a big part I think.

To be honest i haven't seen anything that they have purchased that have pushed my buttons , i got WN then last year i got a share in a filly called Viva Vienna  who goes good so have lots of fun ahead , but there are things i like to see in a horse and especially their walk and so far nada , really liked the All Too Hard filly that they bought at the GC sale but the chances of going back there for the big races are slim .
The best i've seen so far are the Capitalist filly and an Eminent filly . To be honest i said i wouldn't this year because nobody is sure what stakes are going to be like in the 23/24 season , not that it is about money be it you also have to be realist .

A derby won't be confirmed till after the HD , Aus hasn't really been mentioned yet but i'm sure there has been conversations .
Personally i would prefer he went to the paddock , but that's just me , old fashioned . He is close to 17 hands and well over 500kgs and still in his first racing prep and has a lot of maturing to do , being a gelding he has a lot of racing in front of him , hopefully in some big races so plenty of time to win some big money .
But i trust TA will do what is in his best interests , they have done a good job so far so no reason to be complaining .
I'm having a ball which to me is more important than the money , now if i could just work out which 3 strands of his tail i own .

The biggest issue is Waikato's biggest day of the season is only 8 days later now in stead of 10 which was bloody stupid in the first place , why did they have to have a meeting 10 days before a double G1 day , our programming is shite .

Personally I don't take a lot of notice of the narrative. Take the mare Make a Wish for example. Foaled to O'Rielly, Ocean Park and Savabeel. 4 foals, one race between them and all nillers. Then came one which was named No Limits. Why would you pay $1.4m on that kind of dams record? DE proclaimed "the best colt I've seen in a decade." Also turned out a niller. Next one was I wish I win. Real good horse but raced by the breeder. It's called 'horse trading' and horse traders have had a dubious reputation since the year dot. Only certain people such as us are prepared to jump into the pool despite the risks. Makes racing what it is.

Soft 7 in the morning, downgraded to Heavy 8 before first race.  They could have late scratched before the first if they wanted to.

    I don't get why they'd be angry?
Track was declared Soft (6 or 7? can't remember) on race morning.  It drizzled and rained during the morning and early afternoon, some heavy and track was downgraded along the way.
Perhaps they should have checked the weather forecast for the day - rain was forecast late morning and early afternoon.
