gubellini, you may have picked the wrong days to watch.  Many dogs including some past champions have raced with strapping or vaseline on their legs.
Sometimes strapping is used as a support for an old prior injury whilst vaseline is used on the many dogs that have track legs, which are quite often also strapped as well. Wrists, stoppers, hocks and track legs are common strapping areas.
Track legs {whereby a dog brushes the inside of it's hind leg against it's elbow} are quite common, and in many cases can be an inherited trait e.g: New Tears line - most of his offspring had track legs. Strapping and greasing with vaseline is a preventative measure so that if the dog does strike itself it lessens the impact or deflects it thereby reducing the risk of injury.

Firstly the judge has nothing to do with the timing its the photo finish opperator.
The time for Pedro Lee of 25.61 is a crock of shit!
In race mode the Brooks timing system only shows 3 digits on the the semaphore board however still shows 4 digits upstairs.
The board on track showed 25.5 for Pedro Lee and at the photofinishers end showed 25.59 on the timing box.
This was reported to the stipes who one agreed the winning time must be less than 25.59 as its generally the chest of the dog that triggers the timmer at the finish NOT the lure.
When the time of 25.61 was presented it was argued that the time simply cant be slower than when the dog triggered the timer as if its the chest that triggers it on track the nose is ahead therefore faster.
The correct time for Pedro Lee should be around 25.56-57.
Best case they could have simply gone with the 25.59 that the photofinish opperator presented however they chose to go with bullshit hand timing off a tv that doesnt have cameras on the line.

The world is being forced into a radical rethink and not before time. For once in my lifetime, nature has been allowed to breathe. We are witnessing natural phenomena that humanity has never experienced before. People who never exercised now stroll pollution free streets. Families sit down to dinner cooked from scratch. Gardening has become a thing once more. A new type of hero emerges, they are not the 5 million dollar All Black, the overpaid CEO of Spark. Many positives balance tragedy and hardship. Every aspect of our lives is being examined and re-examined. Nature has hit the reset button.

The racing industry was in trouble long before COVID-19 reared its head. The divisions within growing at an alarming rate. We created and promoted monopolies, we adopted a more is better mentality, a corporate culture of saturation. Those at the top believing they are all that and renumerating themselves accordingly, those attached reaping the benefits of that aliance. We now see that model failing across the world. From our lounge sofa, we are watching the world unravel. Nothing will ever be the same again.

We somehow believe we are important, that we are untouchable. Big mistake. Fact is we are non-essential. We exist to satisfy the needs of a very small percentage of the population and that is scary. We have the opportunity to make ourselves over. To discard what came before and start anew. Strength comes from supporting each other, not propping up the few. Over the next six months, life will be very challenging and I personally don't believe that our present leadership has what it takes to get us through. They seem hellbent on following an existing prescription, a flawed model.

We have the opportunity to make ourselves over, use our time in pain to build a solid industry where all prosper. We don't need 60K or 30K races, we need a healthy industry that satisfies public expectations, that supports participant and canine health. We need to clean up our act if we are to recover and thrive. Saturation will kill us.

Well done Adam for looking for solutions, unfortunately, to experience future growth you first need to fix the cracked foundation.

It comes as no surprise, and as i have stated previously, but under the current management structure in the North it was always going to happen. Maybe the Waikato Board needs to act quickly in order to eradicate itself of any resaemblance of what is the present Auckland club in order to have controlover their destiny instead of it just being a takeover and more of the same.

Flabbergasted got a reaction from GOM in Good Feeling
As GOM alludes one of the biggest problems in the North is the current management of which each club has one very common denominator and that is much to the detriment of both clubs but more particularly Waikato. It's more Northern counterpart assumes it is the higher and mightier of the two and seems to make most decisions on behalf of both clubs even when it may not be beneficial to both simply because it may be easier for the shared management to deal with. Particpants concerns are usually taken too lightly or even treated with contempt. Maybe it's time Waikato shed itself of the shared management before big brother takes over completely which is highly likely Plan B for Auckland.

Farewell old mate, one of the good buggers who was just as comfortable talking to the Queen as  a beggar on the street . He did both of those.
Well known and respected in both Islands as a champion breeder and trainer who won most of the group races in NZ often more than once with his small team. He was a tireless worker for the Tokoroa club right from it's beginning and leaves a large legacy in the industry.
I don't think I was ever with Max more than 5 minutes without both of us having a hearty laugh about something. He helped many within the industry especially newcomers

GOM - I'm playing Devil's Advocate here. As wek know there is always two sides to a story and I am not siding on either.
It's been poorly handled from the very start by all parties and the time it has taken to lay charges suggests that there may be something questionable or that the case wasn't as strong as they'd like.

It's a sad state of affairs and I can see bothe sides of the argument. It's tough and depends on the law and the GRNZ rules and GRNZ and RIU must act within them.
If they were to stop the Cole dogs racing and they are cleared then Coles may well have a legal case against the PTB's. Under the current rules they obviously don't have the power to act until after one is found guilty in the court. At present B. Cole has only been charged.
As a consequence of this episode GRNZ and RIU may need to revisit and change the rules in the event something like this occurs again. Then they'll have the power to suspend one's licenece pending the outcome of the court case.
Laws in Australia vary from state to state and when those trainers over there were caught allegedly live baiting a few years ago, some were suspended immediately whilst others weren't, others  took legal action and were re-instated. Only last week one high profile trainer who was suspended and banned for life was cleared in court and is now free to train again. He has not just lost four years of possible earnings but suffered considerable personal cost and a tarnished image. Is that fair ?

Flabbergasted got a reaction from lad27 in $2000 Import Fee
The more I think about it the more I can see this as only being a retrograde step. As Emotive rightly points out when the number of imports drops (I suspect it has already started - given the shortage of dogs in Australia at present) then NZ dogs will be required to be bred to fill the numbers. There will be no tarriff to reduce the GAP costs to rehome those dogs and GRNZ will have to rely solely on industry money to offset the cost.
The cost of getting imports is already prohibitive enough (around $3000 per dog for airfare, customs charges and import/registration fee before it even lands here) so no-one is importing really poor quality any longer.
To breed a litter of pups will cost no less than $3,000 per pup to get it to the track with absolutely no guarantee that it will make the track let alone the grade. That's even more prohibitive for the average participant. Enter the bigger NZ owner/breeders who will take up the slack get even bigger empires and dump even more poor quality dogs onto the smaller trainers.

Shows just how great the new rule is when another dog is allowed an almost identical name of a dog which is currently racing.

jape I think you have taken what i said in the wrong context. I don't for one minute want dodgy, disrepectful or crude names to be allowed. I agree that some of the names that have slipped through the cracks should have been attended to but under the new rules Puma Pants for example would still be allowed as it's two common English words.
I do think that participants should be allowed to name their dogs as they desire and that if showing some initiative and ingenuity in the process. If Mike was to mate Fushidara to Fernando Bale and wanted to call the pups Fushinando or Fernidara why shouldn't that be allowed. Surely you can't see any problem with names such as that, can you.
To take it further they could have simply put in one rule amendment that basically said "If you do name a dog that is later found to be crude or offensive etc. then the name will be immediately changed and a large fine and possible suspension imposed as a deterrent.

It would seem to be more commonsense that if they were to question a name that they contact you for an explanation rather than knocking it back.

Just got off the phone to a mate in Australia. We had been discussing several matters about the sport and we got onto the naming process. I was as my name suggests shocked to learn that owners can no longer devise clever names and may not even be able to use their own former prefix or suffix when naming a greyhound now. There are strict new limitations on words in that they must be familiar or in common use in Australia and New Zealand. Inventive names of racing legends such as Phar Lap, Miata, Farrarami, Velocette, Tangaloa, Makybe Diva and even Winx etc. will no longer be allowed. What is this world coming to.
Despite them claiming they made this new rule through consultation it has been done by stealth. The only consultation was via a post on GA's own website (whoever looks at that ?) and that all other Australian/NZ state authorities would follow suit. One of the dumbest decisions I've ever heard of and disgraceful treatment of lp's. Taking away our right to name our dog as we please. I understand that they may wish to protect the process so as not to allow possibly unknown derogatory foreign words to slip through but given today's politically correct world it's a big step backward.  I think we should all voice our displeasure at this ridiculous decision and get it overturned.

It appears that Auckland is in the grip of a drought given the track surface today.
The distinct lack of water is blatantly evident and as usual complaints and expert advice just falls on deaf ears.
Those in power at the club always know better than everyone else and treat lp's with contempt just shrugging them off as being whingers and poor losers.
Well that's BS because i never had a runner today - but I am not blind and never had a bet because I saw how poor the track was. Dogs are just struggling to get footing on the loose and at least one dog has already been injured and there is little doubt that it was due to the poor state and it'll come as no surprise if there's  more.
With the Auckland Cup and Railway on their doorstep it's time to get their act together before it's too late.

Yeah exactly and it's about time they bit the bullet and did something proactive for the sport especially with such a high focus on animal welfare and they keep serving up poor surfaces mainly as a result of under-prepared tracks. Turning the freaking water on the day before racing will go along way to rectifying the track issues.

Totally agree with Hairy Jerry - this bs about drawing 8 or more dogs in fields is compromising quality top grades and middle distance racing particularly in the Northern region. The rule has been relaxed in relation to distance races and the same should be done for middle distance and higher grade races.
