May be we need to cut back on our breeding  ,we cant be complacent as there are people looking at our industry wanting to shut us down,  we all have to be carefull..

Cole are unethical breeders who breed plenty, put down ones who get injured and rehome almost none.

You do realise the meetings he calls at are mainly dominated by Cole runners named big time right?  Therefore, when talking about the upcoming race & commentary it would be silly if we didn't hear big time a lot. "Hey Mark, sorry mate but you are mentioning Cole & big time too much. Please talk about how blue the sky is today".

Yes but no matter the circumstances he’ll always find a way to talk about a Cole dog or say how he talked to Brendon about the dog. If a non Cole dog wins he’ll say something  like oh this and that, they need the run or some BS

Like Palliser said he’ll come up with 100 different situations.

  3. I can’t remember vividly but I remember when Thrilling billy or a Ferguson dog was nominated to race but he was already with Mayhounds for retirement. I think the same has been done with Margaux who was nominated to run today if it went ahead but it’s already with Mayhounds.

How are the numbers on our side? Out of 3000 racing dogs a year, only 800 are rehomed. Great odds

How is that great odds? With most dogs making over $10,000 at least how can’t they afford to rehome them or pay to fix them when they get injured

  5. I don’t think there’s enough dogs to have a distance race every week. Highly unlikely to get a full field and the quality won’t be great. You may find some can’t run out the distance either

  6. I think when an Australian trainer travels over it makes it more interesting as dogs are bred for the longer distances. It’s hard for NZ dogs because there isn’t a lot of distance races and dogs are not bred to run long distances, it’s more like a try and see how they go. At least there were two full fields

For the record kizanan, there was no information available when I started this thread. Thanks to Shodsie for the reply. When I sat down yesterday to do the form I didn't know if we were going ahead or not and didn't want to waste time on an abandoned meeting.

Very unfortunate for the Craik team and the handful of others north of the Bombays, almost say its unfair to go on without them...but I suppose 'fairness' goes out the window at a time like this.

My thoughts and best wishes to everybody out there at this uncertain time.

It’s sad to the Auckland trainers but there are more trainers out of Auckland hence why they chose to run at Waikato. They are planning on doing a small/mini meeting for the Auckland trainers

    No I do not sorry

I doubt hes having that much of a big affect on northern racing. I think it stems down to people retiring from the sport and numbers dwindling up north.

In the last 5 years, Steve Clark's numbers have cut back, Craiks do not seem to be racing many dogs now, Schofields are gone, alot of smaller trainers like mike martin have cut back to 1 or 2 or even given the game away, some others have passed or are now to sick to train a small team. Up and coming trainers like james black and halley mullane have also stopped training and very few new trainers have filled this void.

It appears peter ferguson and jared Udy have upped their numbers but they still havent filled this large void in the northern region that's there and I've only seen a handful of new trainers appear up north.

Numbers were already dwindling prior to this aswell.

I know what your saying but.... he sends his casts off up north and that makes it non profitable to these trainers as they win like once a month. Halley mullane is a pure example of racing these casts off.

I think teams don’t need big numbers of dogs because then they focus only on the good ones. As long as small trainers keep racing then the fields will be filled.

I’m just waiting for Walsh’s 6 litters to hit the track which will be exciting.

But there wouldn't be enough dogs for a meeting

I believe people leave the industry because of Cole as it’s no longer profitable when racing against him. Cole/Ahern never used to have those numbers of dogs 3y ago.
