Koriokaramea reacted to Charlie E in John Langdon.
Not sure if you ever saw this race mate . Fast forward to 0.44 and will see the last two laps . Great horse amazing where he came from against a great field and getting checked down the back straight. My favorite Reg Clapp best commentator ever used to love listening to him . This was when Harness Racing was so exciting

Koriokaramea reacted to Pure Steel in John Langdon.
Famously Stood in for his good mate and top horseman Charlie Hunter for the 1975 Interdominion , when Charlie was injured in a race during the heats.
John Not only winning the Trotting Grand Final steering Castleton's Pride , but stormed to Victory with the mighty Young Quinn as well in the Pacers Grand Final.
A great double for Charlie and John. hard to believe it was just over half a century ago now?. time flies. even for the champions. John was 27 years old at the time. But achieved a lifetime Dream there at Auckland all those years ago. RIP John . another fabulous NZ horseman of all time.

That's so sad . I worked for John for nearly two years when I was 18 . Grant Mcleod and Peter Mounce were also working there then .
He was such an awesome guy . He organized my trials licence and even when I had given my notice let me drive Dingle Dell at the trials . He also gave me a couple of drives in Junior races when I was working in another stable .
I learnt a lot from John , he was such a talented driver , had a heart of gold and was so good to me .
His wife Jenny is Geoff Martins sister if you didn't know and he is a great guy as well , the whole family is .
RIP J Dub . I will never forget you thx for everything .

Koriokaramea reacted to Idolmite in Trackside Ellerslie coverage
I though the quote of the day was Kylie Williams, winner of over 1000 races as a jockey and mother of Logan Bates, something of the effect of "I was never able to ride a Group 1 winner, but I've been able to produce one" as well as referring to him as "a little shit" while he was still living in New Zealand. And Jigsaw's trainer informing us that the horse was racing before Logan even became a jockey 🤣
The gems that pop up when you don't immediately cross to a race Mullarewarewa.

Yes indeed . . . Trackside coverage of Karaka Millions meet was 1st class. Kudos to all involved.

Unfortunately the poor guy is going through some private issues , he needs support at the moment , not daggers in the back

Koriokaramea reacted to Pak Star in Ellerslie track
A lot of Aus connections singing the praises of the Ellerslie track. Amazing recovery by Jason and his team, and I hope they get the recognition they deserve. Credit where due because they took all the crap we gave them when it was first rolled out.

Koriokaramea reacted to Palliser in Ellerslie track
Whoever is responsible for the track at Ellerslie should be snapped up by all racing clubs to pick their brains.
Outstanding

Koriokaramea reacted to Jack Todd in Trackside Ellerslie coverage
Whilst a great deal of discussions on this forum lean toward the negative, I would like to give a bouquet to Trackside for their coverage of this event. I found it of excellent quality, the presenters were high quality, the racing sensational, the venue world class, the storylines, as Thad Taylor so eloquently pointed out, were fascinating. All in all it was a superb watch. Thankyou

Koriokaramea got a reaction from Baz (NZ) in MM Relegation
Absolutely correct.
What lunatic decided that the winning margin should be a consideration in a judicial decision.
Obviously it's the degree of severity of the "bash" that should be the sole determining factor.
Once you've received the "bash" to the degree that Ninja was bashed, obviously all momentum and interest is lost.
I made plenty off the winner Torque To Be Sure, but I'm the first to admit the backers of Ninja were just plain robbed !

Koriokaramea reacted to Black Kirrama in Christmas/New Year comp - Day 1 entry thread
Thanks John. You have made so many of us Race Cafe / Thoroughbred tragic s enjoy our racing this year. Once again.
Your competitions and scoring time and remarkable tolerance remind me of your marvelous namesake " Say No More ".
The Paul Duncan trained mare won the 2012 Breeders Stakes by a ns from my brother Lee's Fleur de Lune and Xanadu was 3rd.
All three mares now dams of very good horses.
Kindest thoughts to all all race cafe contributors .

Koriokaramea reacted to say no more in Christmas/New Year comp - Day 1 entry thread
See the earlier thread for details on how the 6 day comp will work, or just follow your nose and throw up your picks from day to day. Separate entry thread for each day. Ok to miss a day or two but harder to win anything that way. You should be very familiar with this Day 1 format.
1. Either pick two horses in each race listed below - you will have $10 each way on both and a $2 quinella; or if you'd prefer to pick just one horse in any (or all of the races) you can do that and you will have $20 each way on that one runner, but you will forego the quinella.
2. You will have two best bet races where your bet is doubled. They can be any two of the 10 races listed below.
Posting deadline this week is 12.00pm (midday)
Day 1 races are as follows - just 10 races - keeping it nice and simple with the full Ellerslie card:
1. Ellerslie R1
2. Ellerslie R2
3. Ellerslie R3
4. Ellerslie R4
5. Ellerslie R5
6. Ellerslie R6
7. Ellerslie R7
8. Ellerslie R8
9. Ellerslie R9
10. Ellerslie R10
Please enter horse numbers, not names and remember to nominate two best bet races, and some form of punctuation between your two numbers is very helpful - thanks.
Regular scratchings - it is up to you to replace any scratchings prior to the posting deadline. If you don't then you will have only one runner in the race, unless you have two scratchings or a single pick is scratched, in which case you will have no runners in that race (and for the avoidance of any doubt if you pick two and one is scratched the single remaining runner will be a $10 each way bet).
Late scratchings - any late scratchings will default to the TAB sub (and second win favourite if you already have the sub or both your runners are late scratched). In the event of equal second win favourites the second sub will be the horse with the lower saddlecloth number. If you have a single bet and it is late scratched, you will have a single bet on the TAB sub.
Abandoned races - we need a minimum of 5 races to be run for the results to stand. Any less than 5 and this round will be null and void.

Koriokaramea reacted to Maximus in Spring Pairs Comp - Result thread
Afternoon, all.
Max has been thinking ...(cue siren)
since these selections for today are from THE BEST TIPSTERS (well, at least on current revealed form!), Max has 'invested' on 8 of these picks in a $28 Multi (Any 2 = 28 combinations @ $1 per combo)
Had to leave out Paddy The Farmer (too late to get on..mercifully!) and eliminated the last at Cranbourne to keep the Multi to 8 races. Note there are two Win bets at short odds/small fields, the rest Top3 at decent value.
So, here's the thing...
ANY and ALL FUNDS from this impetuous/impulsive/silly-billy Maxi Multi will go to the Charity of the Spring Pairs organisers' choice.

Koriokaramea reacted to chiknsmack in Spring Pairs Comp - Result thread
I've had a shocker of a spring on the punt, but it would've been twice as bad if I hadn't been betting in Melbourne (which I hadn't done for the past year or two and only did this spring because I was already doing the form for the comp).
Either that's testament to how Koriokaramea carried me through the non-Melbourne races, or that I should start ONLY betting in Melbourne instead.
In case it's the latter, I'll go to Cranbourne where I've found seven bets (my average is just over two bets per meeting) and back the first of them.
Cranbourne 1-6 Prince Tycoon, $75 win.
Thanks.

Koriokaramea reacted to Palliser in Race callers and tight finishes
George Simon is a shocker, I think he's got worse. If you are only listening not watching and he calls your horse 5th or 6th, don't throw your tickets away as they say.
He can't get it right sometimes when there is half a length in it.

Koriokaramea reacted to say no more in Spring Pairs Comp - Result thread
Congrats to all of the prize winners - see below.
As always your prize is in the form of a single bet (Win, Place or Each way) with half of any collect going to you and the other half recycled into future comps. Please post your bets on this thread and also message Leigh (Scooby3051). Be sure to give him plenty of advance notice.
Thanks Leigh!
