  5. p.s. I don't mind at all if my fellow competitors go Melody Belle as well. I'm just in this and all comps in fact for the personal challenge and fun, rather than any reward. In this comp the personal challenge is of course to be sailing as close to the edge as you can, without tipping over ! . I've managed it well so far ... but tomorrow is another day. Prove me wrong, Melody.

I'm going with :- Flemington M12 Race 5 Horse 2 MELODY BELLE Magnificent Kiwi mare 'top-of-the-tree' in NZ .... but over in Australia it'll have to be another step up, and from gate 13 she will need to be clearly better than them. Different from the competitions I usually enter, and a whole heap of fun. Good luck to my fellow last men standing, Kloppite and Talk. Cheers.

  18. That's brilliant ! Thank you very much gubellini, blue, and rdytdy. Much appreciated. I thought he must have been a pretty handy horse, or I can't imagine I would have had the interest in him that I did at the time. 9 wins from 40 starts was pretty useful for sure. This makes great reading, gubellini. Cheers.
  19. In my pre-teen years in the mid-late '60s my favourite racehorse was a northern galloper named 'Styx'. Followed its exploits each Saturday that it raced …. I still remember racing to the local dairy on a Thursday to buy a 'Best Bets' to see if it was racing that upcoming Saturday. Am pretty sure it won a few races, though I can't remember over what distances. Never made a cent off it (cos the TAB wasn't big on 9 y-o punters ! …… still aren't, thankfully ) . I think it was trained at Te Rapa ...can't recall the trainer's name or who rode it. Anyone remember anything about 'Styx', or where I might find any information on 'Styx.' Thanks.
  20. Not surprising that so many continue to enter …. when a competition is extremely well-run with a variety of formats (individual, pairs, trios, teams of 6, etc), simple rules, an easy entry process, prompt and lively accurate updates throughout the day, played in a good spirit and with no 'smart-arses' … then a competition is a 'winner' and people keep coming back for more. It is a competition that adds great value to a Saturday's racing enjoyment. Much appreciated Maria and Leigh.
  21. R1 - 1 & 2 BB R2 - 5 & 7 R3 - 2 & 7 R4 - 3 & 8 R5 - 4 & 8 R6 - 6 & 7 R7 - 1 & 4 R8 - 2 & 9 BB R9 - 1 & 10 R10 - 1 & 6 Thank you very much Maria and Scooby. Hoping for back-to-back comp wins. Always gotta have hope. Maybe stretch the margin from a nose to a length this time.
  22. Well I just got up today in the closest of finishes ...always nice to win a comp, especially a comp as tough to win as this one …. when there are so many astute tipsters taking part. Thank you Maria and Scooby for this marvellous comp. I've had the good fortune to win previously in a Scooby comp, had a prize bet put on, and won that prize bet …. so I've had my share, and am very grateful for that. With that in my mind, of my $70 prize bet from today (thanks for that, Scooby) I'd like to put $40 of that prize bet to add to Sayers $30 prize bet so that Sayer's prize bet is now $70 Sayer was beaten only a lip today and thoroughly deserves the top prize. Pick well, my friend. .. And the balance $30 to go back in to the Prize Fund for future comps. I hope that's alright with everybody. Thanks again Maria for your marvellous running of these comps, and thanks Scooby for your backing. Cheers,, Korio
