  1. Mmmm, nomates. But quick thinking on the jock's part, no? I imagine Michael Wood only wishes he'd come up with a similar 'cramp in my shares certificates tranfers-signing hand' as an excuse to give to Chippie for, what was it?, twelve times being unable to perform an act I can do blindfolded, heh... I've got tomorrow off, anyway, but I will file that Granny thing away for the future. That my Granny (first) past away in 1974 is neither here nor there, right?
  2. Congrats to No Mates, And many thanks to Scooby for running the thing, funding the thing, scoring the thing, doing every-whatever-thing with the thing, heh...
  3. Aaargh! It didn't 'load' so I reloaded, twice. I needs me a lunch!
  4. Soz Scooby. Can I use the MIchael Wood excuse - 'Didn't read the rules! - and go wth 4 – FOXY FRIDA 9 – LADY OF HONOUR 16 – OPAL RIDGE
  5. Can I please have me one of them threesomes? 16 4 9
  6. He might cop a bit of (usually deserved!) flak here in RaceCafe but this race name from Oamaru today is a bit under the belt, don't you think? AIDAN RODLEY MAIDEN
  7. Each to their own et cetera et cetera, saynomore. I hate Jumps racing with a passion... Pray allow me to sit this comp out!
  8. Chuckled a frw mnutes back. Spain are playing Italy in the European Nations League Semifinal. Spain has a guy, clearly Wiremu Pinn's Latin half-brother, called Yeremy PIno. He just scored the First Goal and paid off at 7-to-1 odds for doing so. The cat is purring, knowing that her food bowl will be getting filled today! Good game so far - 1-1 after 12 minutes...
  9. Dr Hunter, yep. Wikipedia fills out his life in a manner I didn't know at the time: Allan Douglas Hunter MNZM (23 September 1922 – 12 July 2017) was a New Zealand rugby union player and schoolteacher. He played provincial rugby for Hawke's Bay, and was principal of both Upper Hutt College and Burnside High School. Born in Christchurch on 23 September 1922, Hunter was educated at Timaru Boys' High School from 1936 to 1940. He then studied at Canterbury University College, graduating Master of Arts with third-class honours in 1948. Hunter's university studies were interrupted by World War II. He was called up in July 1941, but he was allowed to defer army training until after examinations at the end of that year. He served with the First Battalion, Canterbury Regiment, which was tasked with defending the Canterbury coast against attack by the Japanese. He later travelled to Britain where he joined the Royal Navy and was commissioned as a sub-lieutenant, and served in HMS Rutherford from 1944 to 1945. Hunter married Joan Esme Tyler, and the couple went on to have three children.[6][8] While at Timaru Boys' High School, Hunter played for the school's 1st XV rugby team. He then played for the Canterbury University College club team alongside Bob Stuart, Larry Savage, and Jack Kelly. After moving to Napier in 1949, Hunter was selected for the Hawke's Bay provincial team, playing as a first five-eighth. He left sometime in 1969 and was replaced by Malcolm Ross who, curiously enough, had 'invited' me to bend over at Ruapehu College (where he was Deputy Head) where I was in situ from 1965-66... Memories!
  10. HS, I only really became interested in Racing in late 1969 and remenber having a huge (for me at the time) place collect off a New Zealand horse, Ben Lomond, in that year's Melbourne Cup. That was my final year at Upper Hutt College and, distinctly-spoilsportedly, our Principal would absent himself on days when Trentham had a midweek meeting so as to go 'catch' waggers who preferred to be on course rather than in one of his classrooms. Sixes of the best were the order of the day, heh.
  11. Another great competition ... made even greater by the fact that, for once, I was actually a contender! (One day, Cinderella, one day you will go to the ball!) Congrats to Ponderosa for knocking me out. Well done to Sayer, too, for winning!

  14. I'm easy either way, Saynomore,. Though I do think that, for a bit of variety, you might comp. a few bonus points to people who have a D at both ends of their noms--de-RaceCafe... [Way too much work, of course, but I'd love to see a comparison of how we all go against the so-called tipsters we get opinions from off Trackside, heh. I used to love the old 'Friday Flash' and its 'Bet Of The Week' comp amongst racing pundits... And those guys were only allowed one pick each, too. None of this 'George selects 2, 3, 4 and 7. Brendan goes 1, 5, 6 and 8 though he also says you can't discount 9, 10 or 11...']

None of my Australian form guides even mention it!' Hope your Saturday goes well...
  16. I can't remember which one it was but one of the luminaries who headed NZ Racing a few years back reckoned that some about-to-be-introduced new system would be the envy of the world and that punters, overseas ones included, would flock to use it. Never happened, of course, and the liminary in quiestion has long since gone on to mismanage other countries' betting. The only real way to make NZ Racing (and Sports betting) more attractive to overseas punters is to reduce the ridiculously-high takeouts and to offer odds that actually beat the market. That won't happen, either, of course... That'd entail employing book'makers' rather than odds'copiers'...

  20. Doubtless, rdytdy, you've come across such 'useful' form comments as these in your time: No. 1. Dam was foaled only 20 km from here. Home track advantage should help, no? No. 2 Looked promising when placing first up, Forgive his subsequent seven starts, Big chance here. No. 3 rdytdy is rumoured to have once put a dollar to place on this filly. Follow the money... Et cetera...
  21. There was a hill at Ellerslie? Come to think of it, there was an Ellerslie at Ellerslie? I vaguely recall, years and years ago....
  22. Oooh, pretty please can I be in? (There were cherries on top of my 'pretty please' but some greedy soul, I forget who, promptly scoffed 'em...)
  23. A sure sign, saynomore, that you are onto a good thing is that people fret when your service has a wee break! Bring on Brisbane. Dunno about you but I've always found it to be the best of the 'big' carnivals...
  24. Agreed, LIttletramp! Can;t say that I put in even 5 minutes of study coming up with the following but, hey, my record in RaceCafe comps when I did put in such study isn't exactly earth-shattering, ha: Leg 1: Tails Leg 2: Heads Leg 3: Tails BB Leg 4: Heads Leg 5: Tails Leg 6: Odds BB Leg 7: Heads Leg 8: Odds BB Leg 9: Tails Leg 10: Tails
