Cheers for sharing. Had no idea stakes were so good in those days. Would have been a bit easier to make some money from racing one back then. I wonder what the price of an average standardbred would have been. I think I read at article today that the average wage in 1975 was $125 and a house 20k.

Is aussie racing struggling when a Group One race is only worth 50k. I know the miracle.mile was for a lot of coin. But the trotters seem to race for the scraps.

You mentioned lunch at Silks; we were staying in the City on Saturday night, using Uber, so I did not have to drive.  I over indulged at Poundforpound's place over a lovely lunch then got into the bubbles in the Pakuranga Room.  I had  a tasty place bet on Montre Moi (spelling?) in the last, but by then I was talking braille and so any discussion with me would have been a waste of time.

Couldn't they just have  rows on a mobile line or have drivers 10 meters behind horses in front of them in the mobile score up. Or is that simplifying it too much?. Havent standing starts always been a lottery no matter who starts them. ?
