  1. Check out the latest development by the Moonee Valley to recognise the breeders....just wasting time and precious breath conveying these ideas to the protective people who are charged with running our industry...
  2. Would have to agree with your sentiments RR. I’m afraid the drive to the cross roads is coming closer and to be honest, I don’t see any way forward because NZ industry won’t face the hard facts that the country is a bloodstock trading nation and not a racing nation. Domestic racing won’t survive...because as you say, quite rightly, there is nothing running around to encourage enthusiasm with the people the Industry needs more than anything else...punters. Unless there is a strategy to reconfigure trainers license and charge the trainers of trade horses, expensive usage charges should they use industry facilities to prepare the horses going offshore to Asia, then it will all go by the wayside... we need these trade horses to go through the system to generate revenue from the TAB...but as I stated to my other half over 10years ago, trading will be the death knell of the NZ domestic racing industry. The TAB revenue history tells you this... But where all of this could stop is Winston Peters....but as we know he is in favour of the export industry....but in a racing jurisdiction as small as NZ, you can’t have you cake and eat It too.
  3. I also had a horse racing at Riccarton during the week. If the email I received from them was evidence of how they do things, then they should all get in the bin. that email showed the scant regard for owners...so bugger them. and all we see on Twitter is Tim Mills (?) telling the world how wonderful everything is....
  4. OK...TAB investment is down.. and these turkeys at NZTR & NZRB still don’t address the root cause. As a side bar, Perhaps the drop off in Singapore prize money might help keep horses here.....interesting to see what happens at the R2R this week.
  5. She did cosy $425k so no chicken feed....quite the opposite to the winner of the Colts race who cost $36k... But I’m looking forward to seeing the very nice, expensive horses that Barneswood breed getting to the track.....
  6. Another lovely Super Easy colt....Liam Birchley has another Karaka Millions candidate...easy winner at Doomben today. Neptune's Spear...lead all the way.. Funny how they can fire in Australia but hardly a yelp in NZ...
  7. I don’t think Australasian breeders know how lucky we are to have a stallion of this calibre in our backyard. They sprint, they stay, they have great pace....and he offers an amazing outcross for all those Danehill line mares. I’m lucky to own a beautiful Iffraaj mare who unfortunately broke down several time without the opportunity to show her amazing speed. I have no doubt crossed with a Danehill line stallion she will produce a lovely horse. But I’m also frustrated that owners and of course, those dedicated followers of fashion who love spending other people’s money, don’t seem to want to pay money for them at the yearling sales. Yes, I know they are not overwhelming types as yearling....but experienced agents /trainers should have the eye to pick them. It must be gut wrenching for Haunui to know Breeders won’t send top class mares to this internationally rated stallion because the yearling don’t bring money in the ring...but as we know it’s fashion, not necessarily performance, that sells. Oh what a completely stuffed up industry it is...
  8. Mark Zahra on Jaameh, QE2......a classic, and then had to lift the horse, great ride on the second horse also.......one for the video. A magic day also for Haunui Farm, well done team.....Showcasing and then Iffraaj......magic.
  9. I don’t think I’ve ever read such absolute bulldust...I’ve had horses for 40 odd years and I’ve never heard of a horse eating contimated straw or worse still, sawdust. just another diversion thrown up by the RIU and their masters, the JCA. Can someone tell me what is the reasoning behind this announcement?
  10. Yes, good work by the QLD industry...the participants...participants, not the duds that are Racing Queensland, won this battle...never heard ONE iota from the pen pushers. QLD racing has a similar smell to NZ about it...not healthy. But while this has been going on, I began to think more about the Messara Report and it’s chances of being implemented. I think the area that JM has not been well advised and something that really hasn’t dawned on him.....there is a huge difference in the psyches of Australian and Kiwis....something which you really don’t understand unless you have been born in Oz and worked In NZ in thoroughbreds. in Oz, it was all about the punt...setting one up to take the bookies. Yes, the bookies...and in comparison, NZ doesn’t have the depth of that “culture” ...therefore having a bet is not considered a vital part of every day life.....and to be fair, I don’t think any of the experts called on by Messara to provide industry background would have considered this. (Most of them are Kiwis living in Oz and most occupying that rarified air of the ivory towers sucking oxygen from those at grass roots...so basically they know SFA of current every day life at grass roots level.) There has to be more discussion on getting better returns from the Government on what goes through the TAB and the corps...unless there is a major push to change the culture or lay the path for the introduction of bookmakers - which is never going to happen. You can’t suggest what works in NSW or VIC, will work here...and the spoils will just roll in...there has to be a significant upgrade of the product to encourage / excite people about having a bet.....and how to make that happen is the $64 question. Just food for thought...
  11. The first horse I ever owned was bred by Ron. He was by Alcimedes. I gave him to Des Lake the former champion jockey to rain, Des had his own property, but used to gallop at Warwick Farm. I called him Ari, he won a barrier trial, Des said he could be anything.....a week later, he bowed a tendon......Ron was a champion himself, rest well.
  12. You're very kind, I'll have some of that.
  13. Well it's ethics isn't it? why be part of an organisation that has no spine? look at the difference between what is happening here in QLD and over in your neck of the woods? Trainers here are proud to be part of their representaion body, Chris should publically resign, at least then it prove that at least one trainer there has gonads? you think?
  14. Why are you a member then Chris? My husband refused to join, told them so, gave it to them straight, so vote with your feet.
  15. Absolutely. If this info is correct then the whole testing and prosecution procedures are more than flawed, laughable, anyway, when was the last time testing for elevated TCO2 levels was done in the North? and what budget do they have for it? it's 2018, not 1944, or it might be in parts of Petone.
  16. Agree, however they should have galloped at racespeed, hence the payment to the willing trainers, that's professionism at work, and Goodwin reckons they trialed on the track, I've got a nose bleed from researching, checking their statements, , they are the masters of bull dust, but only because they aren't held to account, no one is, so on and on it goes, where it stops nobody knows.
  17. Aren't you missing the elephant in the room Puha? Goodwin needs to go, resign or be pushed, the buck stops with him, he says he ran trials, no record? why didn't he and the other 'execs' get there very early and gallop and I mean Gallop at least 4 across?......by paying the locals, and I mean a nice fee, they could have organised a gallop like that, dew or moisture aside, at least then he could announce they did everything they could, and then it's down to the club and the contractors.......what a way to run a business, but we know don't we.....a meeting around the sausage roll warmer this morn and a plethora of ''oh wells''.......
  18. Geelong and Pakenham can take at least 12 for all barriers, 14 I think in some cases, Moonee Valley has a 14 horse limit and its a Strath
  19. Anyone remember La Mer? Yesterday Benbatl won the Ladboke at Caulfield, Used to be rightfully called the Caulfield Stakes, Benbatl has as his 4th Dam that wonderful lady La Mer. Off she goes to Ireland and four generations later Benbatl emerges as a real Cups chance. La Mer in my mind was every bit as good as the mighty Winx......I say that as I believe she raced against better opposition generally, however to see her great, great grandson come down to the Antipodes and win so convincingly is magical.......let's hope it continues!
  20. Bloody Kiwi rabbits, over here looking for jobs.
  21. Ha, give yourself an uppercut Charlie, what a rabble the NZTA are, they had plenty of time to say something, even longer to do something, and now the abandonment of Riccarton, will they speak up? joke.
  22. Yesterday at Waverley was an absolute disgrace for the RIU. I tweeted them about the lack of intention regarding Race 6 and the 2nd fav, Brantfort. It finished a long last. It was Reported that a post race vet exam did not reveal anything. So did they swab the horse? No mention if they did. So again we’re talking about punters and their right to know what happened. Surely a subsequent follow up vet examination and the need to trial before being allowed to race? But of course not... what planet to these stupid idiots live on? When are they going to understand it’s all about the PUNTER !!!! If the punter doesn’t invest, then they don’t have a job...and as we know investment from punters is falling through the floor....is it any wonder why?
  23. In all reality they should stand together, shoulder to shoulder and immediately call for the resignations of the respective boards.......in most advanced communities this would be de rigour !
  24. It's called Unity Scooby, no one pushing their own agenda, it's all for one and one for all, as Chris Wood pointed out so many times, the NZTA is a toothless tiger, they could in partnership with the NZROA and NZTB [Breeders] have taken the same road.....there's something inherently wrong culture wise in NZ, and it seems Winnie is the only one to do anything at all.....shame!
