  1. All have to be treated as individual’s obviously as Tavistock 3yo fillies have done a pretty good job in the Oaks type races and got black type on the board. Not sure this one is paddock trained, it is trained by Baker/Forsman. Tomelilla is from a slow maturing family, a cheap purchase ($15k) who is now a Group winner, Half sister to the smart horse Victor Hugo and full sister to Viktor Vegas (likes the soft tracks also)
  2. Tomelilla now a completely different proposition, was a mare with no blacktype, now a Group 3 winning Tavistock mare.
  3. Tavistock now has a Group winning mare in Tomelilla.
  4. No doubt it has a part to play, but buyers would not be buying fillies that were 'no good' for that kind of money, they harbour serious racing ambitions and rightfully so. They have massive residual value but are being brought to be racehorses first and foremost and have every chance to be competitive in Group races at 1600m and further especially within their age group. There is no doubt the colts have performed better than the fillies (not disputing that, facts don't lie) but to say they are no good is very harsh when they are running at 9.7% stakes performers to runners. He just needs to get some photos on the wall instead of placings with the good Oaks/Group 3yo fillies he is producing (Milsean, Harlow Gold, Imperial Lass etc)
  5. You mention you think the fillies are no good but this years sales they still sold for $180k, $220k, $420k, $500k, $750k, $975k so buyers are still keen on the quality There is no doubt the fillies haven't quite matched the colts but to say they are no good is pretty far fetched, From 93 female runners he has had 50 winners which includes 2 listed winners, 3 G1 Oaks placegetters and another 4 stakes placegetters, so 9.7% stakes horses to runners. Do the fillies have as good a record as the boys?, clearly not. But they definitely are not no good!, Admittedly he has work to do (but I can remember when the call was the O'Reilly colts were no good, the Montjeu fillies no good, the High Chaparral fillies no good etc, etc ) I am picking the quality of fillies will include from next season as thats when his numbers and quality of mares really picked up. Apart from his current weanlings all the rest of his progeny have been off service fees between $8-15k so scope for improvement.
  6. Generic statement that never takes into account type obviously (think Mongolian Falcon always had knee issues , including x-rays when for sale) Also the real premier quality fillies always have appeal and are desired at yearling stage (especially this year, have sold particularly well) There is never that much appeal for fillies that have moderate pedigrees and are put for sale, this is when breeders can get heavily burnt and lose significant money.
  7. Big difference there is comparing a colt to a filly (can't really do it), and what were the two stallions?, that may tell a story
  8. Absolutely, very ignorant breeders that are breeding horses at that level to sell, doesnt make sense. Breeding to race a different story.
  9. He is a reasonable cheap option for breeders!, especially breed to racers!, As a breeder you like to have options , and this guy has some credentials at a cheap fee! I’m not interested in your discussion about South Island racing, have I said anything about sales or South Island racing? I have only stated that he has some credentials at a small fee and gives breeders in the South Island an option. Hard to argue about that?
  10. True world class horse, Exciting stallion to add to the mix and a complete outcross from Zabeel, Sadler’s Wells and Danehill. Well done Cambridge Stud
  11. We arent talking about a high profile stallion entering a major stud here! , and im not advocating he would be a success at all , just applauding that breeders have an opportunity on a cheap stallion that has some credentials. No mention of South Island programming/racing etc, conpletely different topic. A group winning son of Fastnet Rock out of a Galileo mare from a good family that has form around true G1 horses. He is standing for $3,000 in the South Island!, South Island breeders dont have access to high profile stallions and are unlikely to, this guy gives a good option at the price especially for breed to racers. It’s a good thing for the breeders that these options are standing in the South Island, choice is good for breeders and after the initial success from standing in the South Island of Highly Recommended , this new stallion may have some appeal to some.
  12. At a cheap fee for a smallish stud in the South Island he’s got reasonable credentials. Even if sons of Fastnet Rock havent set the world on fire. Good international family (Galileo/Gone West/Phone Trick) in the damlines, was a winner at 2 and an impressive G2 winner at 3 with the 2nd and 3rd placegetters both being G1 winners and ran a good 2nd in a G2 behind a G1 winner. Fastnet Rock has been a champion sire himself with 136 stakeswinners and has produced sons that have sired G1 winners in Hinchinbrook and Foxwedge, and Highly Recommended has done a very handy job from the South Island from a low fee, so some credentials. What more would you want from a small South Island stud at a $3,000 service fee?
  13. In AUS/NZ Power has now had 38 starters for 23 winners, including 3 stakeswinners and a further 5 stakes placegetters. 21% stakes performers to runners in NZ/AUS
  14. Interesting when comparing these stallions (Ocean Park and Reliable Man) to Power who started the same time in NZ. In AUS/NZ he has had 38 starters for 23 winners, including 3 stakeswinners and a further 5 stakes placegetters. 21% stakes performers to runners in NZ/AUS
  15. 6 stakes performers from those 51 runners is a solid effort (11.7% stakes performers to runners in NZ & AUS) A lot of work to do as obviously a lot of runners that have shown nothing though to make out the stats, so a big gap between the handy ones and the rest. Hopefully can boost those percentages, has had big sized books and good quality so has been given every chance, up to him now.
  16. Not sure what tree you are barking up here or what planet you are one, you’re lack of knowledge is showing up! Makfi won 2 serious G1 mile’s (an English Guineas! And the Prix Jacques Le Marios! Tavistock in his early days fluctuated between 8k and 12k and all his progeny that have raced have been from modest quality of mares.
  17. Exactly, i’m talking about the breeders trying to sell them. No reason why they wont be successful, but why breed to sell at that lowest level?, breed to race at that low level!
  18. People that are breeding very moderately performed/pedigreed mares to similar profile stallions and looking to sell are trying their best to lose money, guaranteed recipe!
  19. His record so much better in the Uk, and you just cant compare the market when he is NZ $12,000 TO 35,000 GBP. A loss to NZ and it’s proven stallion roster but makes sense for everyone involved, would have been a substantial sale of the 50% Haunui owned.
  20. Moderate start, has only had 30 runners and only 9 winners have come from that (1 stakes horse in Prom Queen) His australian winners have won several races which is promising, He was always going to do it tough with his profile.
  21. Not bad season stats are they, just lacking those high profile horses this season (Gift Of Power winning age group races without the big ones this year) Can leave a handy horse and has done off modest service fees and smallish books, his crop of current weanlings are from his biggest book by far , so a bit to come you would suggest.
  22. His profile and stats so far should be no more than the $7,500-$10,000 mark.
  23. Power is Coolmore owned and was a shuttler, new Owners/Plumptre have decided he doesnt fit with maybe Burgundy fitting the profile Power has. They also have their 2 domestic G1 horses in the wings they have brought into, both are 0/2 in Australia.
  24. Mapperley Stud Contributer/Complacent. Apparantly even more so when booking both or multiple
