  2. Jonathan Parkes confirmed for the ride on Contessa Vanessa
  3. Blue Denim was part of my first (and possibly only treble), along with Ruanuku and Velvet Brown, at Rotorua. Think I was 7-8 at the time and rushed home from school on Monday afternoon to see what Dad had collected. Remember being slightly disappointed with $70, but looking back Blue Denim was class, Ruanuku (I think) loved Rotorua. I picked Velvet Brown because it's two previous runs were a third, then second. A 7YO's logic - a win must be next
  4. She is a marvel to watch - when she flattens out in the straight - could watch her all day
  5. Belinda, I have followed Contessa Vanessa right through; she raced pre-Christmas as a 2YO, presumably to try and qualify for Karaka Million; she then raced through last winter, winning twice. She started her 3YO campaign in October and has now run 17 times - quite a number for a 3YO filly. But she is going as well as ever. Typical of the Bullbars', time to mature mentally as well as physically is the key. In terms of staying the Oaks trip, she has Zabeel and Shirley Heights on her damside; Bullbars has had a 3YO winner in Aust over 2,400m and Comin'through finished 5th in last year's Queensland Derby (distance shortened). Bullbars also had a good winner at Awapuni yesterday in Beauden - https://www.nzracing.co.nz/RaceInfo/46545/3/Race-Detail.aspx Good luck with your filly
  6. Two Bullbars fillies (full sisters) up for auction tonight on Gavelhouse - both unreserved, plenty of winners on damside
  7. And would you expect similar to hold true for Preferment and other sons of Zabeel? Thanks
  8. It would be great to hear thoughts of those who attended the Waikato stallion parades this weekend, particularly with all the new talent available. Who impressed? Any photos would be great as well
  9. Wrote's US second 2yo starter (first on turf) won today by 1.5 lengths over 7.5 furlongs in the US
  10. As a novice, I am finding your posts really interesting Swynford - keep them coming!
  11. Since 4 June, he has had 16 starters in Oz/NZ/HK for 1st 4 2nd 3 3rd 4 4th 2 5th 2
  12. While this thread is about Wrote, Highview's other stallion is on a roll at the moment - since 4 June, his 13 starters (in Oz/NZ/HK) have got 4 wins, 2 seconds, 3 thirds, 2 4ths & 2 5ths - one of the 5ths was in the Queensland Derby
  13. Both winners today sired by Highview stallions, Bullbars and Danroad
  14. Interesting to see that the same mare appears to be being sold on Gavelhouse (concluding 5 June) and Bloodstockauction (concluding 6 June) at the same time. https://gavelhouse.com.au/lot/136/idalia-belle https://www.bloodstockauction.com/sales/2017/06/06/catalogue/33 Not seen that before!
  15. Highview will stand a Group1 winning son of High Chaparral. 16. Great to see Miss Dalghar oblige for Frank today
  17. I see that a couple of races at Te Rapa on Saturday are celebrated in honour of Frank and Colleen Ritchie and their 50 years of marriage. Up until a couple of weeks ago, Frank Ritchie to me was simply the trainer of Bonecrusher (probably the horse that I enjoyed seeing race the most). A couple of weeks ago, I joined Stu Hale's Waikato stud tour for a day and sat across from Frank. We had a few chats through the tour and he came across as a lovely guy, so genuine, interesting and interested. So to Frank (and Colleen), congrats on an amazing milestone. I hope you have a great day of celebration on Saturday; and Miss Dalghar wins the fifth race for you.
  18. Very much a novice here Berri, ... but regarding the above, how do you think Bullbars would suit. Traces to Mr Prospector on his sire line and to Northern Dancer on his dam's sire line? Also has Mill Reef up close, which from my limited reading, may not be a bad thing? Thanks for your post above, because I find this kind of detail very useful in learning

  20. Great article on Let's Elope - well worth a read http://bit.ly/2cCwuxC
  21. Thanks Gubellini; very helpful. BTW - Bullbars had another debt winner overnight apparently at the Yu Long meeting in China!
  22. Gubellini - bit of a novice here; how do you define 'short coupled'? Thanks
  23. Seems like it has been a pretty good week for Bullbars. His first crop of 40 foals are three this season. At the Avondale trials this week, he had three starters in the maiden heats over 800m and they all won; by 6.5lgths, 2.5 lgths and 1.5lgths. They we all convincing. Then on Thursday, Sicario (Grp1 placed in last years Sires Produce at Awapuni) became the Busuttin/Young teams second Australian winner, the margin three lgths over 1,200m and is being aimed at the Grp1 Caulfield Guineas; Also nominated for the Caulfield Guineas is Mongolianlightning - 8.5l winner on debut at Matamata. Anyone have any thoughts on the Bullbars - the majority look like they need a little time - but at $6k, he looks like he produces runners with a turn of foot?
