  1. Its hard to believe.. Tuesday will be the 40th Anniversary of when Kiwi won the Melbourne Cup... 1983

  3. Unfortunately no, Athabascan was 26th in order. Ladies Man currently 25th. Valiant King (currently 23rd in order) failed a vet check this afternoon and has to have another one so if he fails the 2nd check he is out which makes Ladies Man 24th. However, if the either Kalapour, Mostly Cloudy or United Nations wins the Lexus Archer Stakes tomorrow (Flemington race 3), that would push Ladies Man back down to 25th again, but if Ladies Man wins the race then he automatically gets a start in the Cup.. By this time tomorrow we'll know what the Cup field looks like..
  4. Just read on Racing.com that win loose or draw on Saturday, Athabascan will NOT be running in the Cup on Tuesday.
  5. We ran the same comp last year and we’re going again this year, and being a normal work day for John I’m on the tools. All you need to do is Pick 8 horses who you think will finish in the Top 8…. No you don’t need to pick them in the correct finishing order and no, you won’t be winning $10M. Picks close at 4.30pm Tuesday. (this is assuming the race will be run around 5pm as usual) Please post your 8 selections by Horse Number in numerical order. If you have a Scratching, I’m sure you’ll find time to put in a replacement before the 4.30pm closing time (in a new post please). If you do not post a Scratching replacement, or there is a LATE scratching, you will be allocated saddlecloth #1, but if you already have it in your selections you will get saddlecloth #2 and so on. The winner will be the person who gets the most of their picks finishing in the Top 8. Some tie-breaker Rules: - In the event that 2 or more people end up getting say 6 of their picks (for eg) in the Top 8, the winner will be decided as follows: Person 1 gets 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 8th Person 2 gets: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 8th Person 1 will be the comp winner as their first different pick finished 5th, while Person 2 will be the runner up as their horse finished 6th. - In the event that 2 or more people end up getting say 6 of their picks in the Top 8, and they BOTH have 1st, 2nd,3rd, 5th, 7th and 8th (for eg) then we will look at the 9th placed runner, then the 10th placed runner and so on until we find the comp winner. - In the event that 2 or more people pick the same identical 8 horses and win the comp then it’s impossible to have a tie-breaker to decide the result so they will end up sharing the prize. Scooby has put up a prize of $200 to the winner and $50 to the runner-up. And as usual the bet is on one horse Win, Place or Each Way (tote odds) with half the winnings going back into the future prize pool. And some punctuation between selections please. If I can’t figure out what your picks are, I will just allocate you Romantic Warrior in the race but if you already have him in your picks I will allocate you horse # 25. The first 4 runners home will be known and I will be using MySky FWD/REV to try and determine the finishing order of the rest of the runners, however, if its close and the placings cannot be easily determined I will need to wait for the TAB to put up the finishing order and that will mean posting of the result will take a bit longer. So many possible scenarios could play out so the judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into…remember this is for fun. Putting the thread up early to give you the extra study time (even though the Final field wont be declared until after Derby Day Saturday).
  6. J-Mac on Athabascan in the Lexus is an interesting booking. You'd think that if he goes forth to the Cup they would have tried to book a jockey to ride him Saturday to get a feel for him for Tuesday... they might have tried to, who knows...
  7. Just checked again on Racing.com... of the current 24 in order of entry, 9 horses haven't got a jockey listed for them. Guessing that "could" mean some trainers are still contemplating whether to push forward further (otherwise you'd think they'd have a jockey locked in by now). Ladies Man still listed as 25th in order so Allan Sharrock really in a tough spot. Wait and hope that a few drop out, or does he need a hit-out anyway and run him on Saturday regardless... and of course the winner from Saturday automatically gets into the Cup.. so that could possibly push Ladies Man down to 26th if none of the current 24 drop out.

  10. A certainty for you all.. Francesco Guardi won't win the Melbourne Cup. Chris Waller has dropped it out of the race. Guessing that means J-Mac is currently without a ride but if Gold Trip goes forward to the race then Mark Zahra can't ride Gold Trip and Without A Fight so he could end up scoring a good ride.
  11. Yes you can watch Trackside on Sky Go. When in the app, click on "Watch TV", then click on "Sports", then scroll thru the options until you see Trackside 1 and Trackside 2.

  17. Real roughie for the day.. Race 1 at Hawera #5 Danzino.. $41 and $7.50 on FF And Race 5 #13 Half of Nothing likes the course and distance for value also.
  18. Sorry Jools... I'm not usually a stirrer, but I just couldn't resist posting that along with a deliberate spelling mistake.!!
  19. It's been announced that Espiona is going to race in Chris Waller's slot and Shinzo will race for Coolmore. That only leaves Yulong's slot who are likely to pick their own mare Alcohol Free. So looks like Imperatriz isn't going to line up in the Everest and stay in Melbourne instead.. You heard it hear first.....

  21. Love the track too.. big straight so gives everyone a chance to get wound up. Remember the old days of the "$30,000 day" at Pukekohe.. for the younger ones, every race used to be worth $30,000.!!! Always maximum sized fields so great to look for the roughies on the big track..
  22. TAB website says its now "Showery".. is that accurate.?

I'm on the bus heading back from Paraparaumu and it's pretty full..so if I go down the gurgler today I'm gonna blame it on the fat bas..td sitting next to me who's cramping me and I'm stuck in tight quarters
  25. Tokyo Tycoon for me. Ignoring the Sistema result (and Hastings on Saturday which didn't count), he was 4 from 4 including the "Listed" Karaka Millions in which Ulanova ran 4th. Again ignoring the Sistema, Ulanova was 2 from 5 and her Group 3 win at New Plymouth was against an average field (yes I know you can only beat what's in front of you though). My personal belief is that you shouldn't have to win a Group 1 to be eligible to win Champion of the year. I couldn't be bothered trying to win an Everest because its not a Group 1....why would Imperatriz go there to try and win a Listed race as it wouldn't help her win Horse of the Year
