Trainers giving their opinion on how a horse will race is worthless. They dont tell you anything because most of them dont know themselves.

Well, Papers Past has 'spruik' being used in the NZ Truth in 1906 (and regularly thereafter), so the word is fairly well established now...

I hear this word often on TS and just googled it's meaning, is it true that it originated in Australia? an Aussie slang word? why don't the over users of this word 'Spruik' off to Australian then!! Surely we have better words and don't have to mimic Australian presenters!

Very few I imagine really Leggy. If it hadn't been for me knowing immediately what these devious bastards would be up to our Club would have just adopted the model as suggested.  And it ended in a scrap with our Secretary who insisted we had no choice.  I have tangled with NZTR plenty of times in the past and I know they are full of shiite.
The bottom line is 99% of members will just roll with the punches and just do what the CEO tells them they have to.  And effectively sign away (potentially) millions of dollars to Wellington.  Given their record I would not rely on them to exhibit good stewardship of the hard earned assets
Please Pease please cafers do all you can to stop these wankers and their deceit

Jon Trum reacted to N1MUE in SSTs - change for the worse (TAB please note)
Used to be a big fan of the self serve terminals (SSTs) at the TAB, but not so much anymore.
Regularly now when I'm putting a final field bet on I get a notification saying that the odds have changed and displaying the new odds, but not placing the bet.
Previously they put the bet on and advised me of the change of odds, and I could then choose whether to keep or cancel the bet - that seemed to make good sense.   But no obviously not!
Now I have to frig around trying to get the bet on at the new odds - and that's not just a matter of hitting submit again.  Oh no, if you just hit submit, you get told once again that the odds have changed (in case you missed it the first time).  You have to exit right out and start again.  Incredibly frustrating and on several occasions when I'm placing a bet close to start time I've been shut out.  Yes I know I shouldn't leave it so late, but they need to sort this out.
Anyone else finding this frustrating?  Anyone on here from the TAB who can explain??
(and don't tell me it's because of live betting on sports, because surely you can distinguish between live betting options and normal fixed odds options)

It seems the best qualification you can have for a career in this game is to "NOT make it in this game!"
The current lot of stewards aren't very smart when they take it upon themselves to dope test Chris Johnson at Rangiora trials whereby he was/has been a huge asset to the locals and was one of the few original jockeys not to have given Rangiora the 'slip' after NZTR de-licenced the track.

I haven't read so much garbage for years. What's the difference between breeding calves, foals, lambs, fawns, piglets when we all know they are to be slaughtered and breeding dogs?
Anyone who has been farming will know that all livestock have degrees of intelligence, all can be great mates, all feel pain. We certainly do not need more regulations regarding what and when we breed. I have never come across any trainers using live-baiting - just fishermen. Talk about hypocrisy!
There needs to be some honesty from the thoroughbred and standardbred codes - truckloads of slow horses go into the works everyday without a murmur from the mad greenies.
As for the stupid comments re JT McInerney - the whole business would have folded if he had not kept the numbers up for the South Island meetings. He does not breed from many bitches - he may have several clients who breed many bitches - but he does not.

I don't condone live baiting at all in any form. Interesting I'm a boat builder and last week I fitted probably the 30th 'live bait' tank I have fitted in my life on a 65 footer. I can assure you Scooby the owner wasn't into greyhound racing. Interesting the double standards in this world right? Every 2nd boat in westhaven marina has a 'live bait' tank on it. Yet no one gives a toss about it!!! And you can't tell me a fish doesn't feel it because they flap like crazy when that sharp hook goes through its mouth! And before you say it's different it's for a feed. It's game fishing mate. Get a photo, a high five from your mates and then release it with a sore mouth, absolutely exhausted lucky if it survives! So if they are consistent, fishing will be banned too. Just regulate it better! Jesus Christ!

I heard Copps banging on about John Magnus giving TVs for use in Trenthams members for Steeple day, I laugh because usually the track TV's are hooked into the PA system and you never hear any inter track races! and does ol Dessy boy know about the delay of watching on his flash TV's? the steeples winner will be finishing while you are watching the top of the straight already knowing the winner! How about a dedicated TV room where we can watch ALL racing without interruptions and manned betting windows? like a TAB on course! too easy I say, I can't believe tracks don't have this (Trentham for sure), no wonder people don't go on course anymore. Des you are NOT listening......but then again what's new.

JT racing in NZ is like the Welsh rugby team, it's down on its luck, fallen on hard times if you like, and we keep being reassured it's turned the corner and doing ok....but it's not....the evidence proves that.
The challenge is can we make it great again, and how do we go about resurrecting it ?
You could wave the white flag I suppose, or you reinvent, you develop a 5 year plan, then a 10 year, and a 20 year plan.
You do it in a transparent way, and you offer all participants the option to buy in to the dream, or piss off.
One thing you absolutely must get right though is your leadership team, no one will embrace your dream if you don't have a talented, charismatic and visionary leader, someone with soaring rhetoric who can mobilize the troops and sell the dream.
That's out initial challenge, to find a leader the industry wants to follow, and it could be anyone, even you, who knows ? but let's at least agree that we should try to find our " Watt Tyler " to lead us from the darkness into the light.

They are back alright, some of them reveling in the power.  I know they have a job to do but there are ways, not like the woman mentioned before, that puts owners backs up.    Now at another  course where I have been a member for 30 years I was hanging around stable area waiting for a horse to arrive on course ( I had  entered the back way ) .  I was ordered out by  some turkey  who would barely  have been born when I joined  Told me he'd been watching me waiting around -   as if I was a criminal !  Now when I left  the course another official told me he wasn't supposed to let me out the float area but as he recognised  me from stabling area at Ellerslie    to just  go ahead. Told me  some new muppet at the top had made these changes but he was polite , friendly and even if he had stopped me he  wouldn't have got my back up,  unlike the  first bloke.    Maybe they could choose more  people for these jobs that are  better at public relations and can  treat owners and members with a modicum of respect . The stupid part was next time it had all changed back the way it was before with people coming and going. No consistency.
