  1. Agree. Non winners carded and the rest are open nominations all over the same distance. Fields carded as fields of 12 with 1 emergency that being the lowest rated horse carded in the next race up. Connections of the horse choose whether or not to race in the lower class race from the worst draw given it is preferential or stay in the race it is carded in with the best draw. A domino affect when there is a scratching but would only be limited to one. The leftovers at the top of the pile race each other for a larger stake. 2200 at Alex Park or where ever . Once a month card a meet with the option of 1700 or 2700. All 2700 races are stands to tie in with the fact our 2 biggest races are also stands. All pacing fields are preferential barrier draw. All trots are discretionary handicaps.
  2. Jesus. You reckon you could correct your use of punctuation? Seems like you are implying that Hope is doping but it's a little difficult to understand given your clear disdain for full stops and commas. If one was to judge someone's intelligence solely on their ability to put together a sentence, and in turn pay respect to what one was implying, then unfortunately you are playing in the gutter with this sort of shit and you opinion would be worthless. Horses can improve quickly due to completely legal and morally correct conditioning methods and pre race treatments. Beach training is as good as it gets, especially for tried horses through conventional track work.
  3. Not sure where this topic is supposed to be heading but I will offer my 2 cents anyway. The guy is a genius. Hands down best trainer of a square gaiter in Australasia.
  4. The quaddie wasn't commingled? Stratum Star was never a $38 dollar shot. Silverstream was well ever the odds as well. Mind you WA Tab quaddie was $50k which was about right if not overs given the winners local tote prices.
  5. Ascot is a short straight and with a tight turn in. He got left behind as have many good horses in the past when the 2 in front straightened up on the better going. The winterbottom was run at 6m, the week prior, maybe he landed in ground not as suitable from the 500m on? Common sense suggests Scales of Justice was going to get rolled regardless what Whyte did but you just never know as it was a bob of the head go. Gotta feel for Paul Harvey, will be pissed about his suspension leading in. SoJ was a given for him over the carnival.
  6. As disappointing as it may seem you are bang on. Print media is on its way out. The Herald can print what ever they want based on what sells. A racing article or the fields are not what sells when all info for punting you could ever wish for is at the tip of your fingers on your phone.
  7. Best trainer in the Southern Hemisphere either code. Stats don't lie.
  8. No expert on the matter. In fact I wouldn't have a clue to be honest when it comes to putting a stick on a horses arse But...... Nothing worse than seeing those flogs racing around the country circuits in Aus bashing the arse off their horses. I'm all for the rule however whipping needs to be defined in terms of perceived action. Slapping the reins with the whip turned and arching back with an almighty 1 handed backlift are 2 very different things. Give it a couple of years and it will only be a positive move forward.
  9. The ratings system is the way to go however it would be more effective down south where the pool of horses is bigger and therefore the races can be carded with tighter conditions. Regardless of how well the ratings system is set up in the north island a club is not going to turn down nominations outside of race conditions if they are short on numbers which happens all the time.
  10. McKendry is pretty sharp as well but the 'Wolf Pack' , as you call them, left him for dead out 3 wide for an eternity in last years GN Derby. Nothing wrong with their driving on that occasion. The All Star horses are the best conditioned in the country therefore they can be driven positively. When there are masses of blue and silver it can be perceived as off even if they are only driving for the best result for the horse.
  11. Logging in from an NZ IP address? And is the entire market shorter or just the particular runner you want?
  12. Nice to know there is a publication out there that calls it how they see it without prejudice or conflicts of interest to be worried about.
  13. Could it not just mention both? Move on to the next topic. This thread is a valuable waste of everbodies time and energy that could be more productively spent watching grass grow or even better watching the mighty Vodafone Warriors play. #cats
  14. Didn't really do it for me. Watching short favs roll in like they do is a bit tedious. From a punting point of view it doesn't bother me. A hundy is about my limit and to back a 1.50 shot for a $50 return ain't much fun. But....the bookies can't be at fault if they were offering overs. Did go a little out of my comfort zone in the last at Te Aroha on Monday with a hundy eachway on an 18 and 4.80 shot fixed. The blood was pumping as it lead up and was traveling swinging in. The cat fell in a hole up the straight and ran 4th......
  15. You have missed the whole point of your own thread. The fixed odds were overs. So regardless of ones outlay or willingness to back short priced favs it's a hard ask to complain
