Isn't that just Grand. I made a post regarding Emily and Weigh In. It is my recollection that when the TAB was on the verge of oblivion Dean Mckenzie was appointed to sort it out. Many people and programmes were thrown on the scrap heap, including Weigh In. When things settled down I believe many headed by Te Akau were responsible for the resurfacing of Weigh In. And good on them. I did not believe I ever denigrated Winston Peters in my post. In fact I have believed that since is arrival in the early 80's I have had nothing more than respect for the guy as a man and a politician. Thats coming from a man who was totally on the opposite of the fence. His efforts for the racing industry should be applauded. As I did not mention him in my original post I object to be called a nutter. Does that make my position clearer or do you wish me to speak more slowly.

On the other side of the coin, must be tough for the regular riders that  do all the trackwork and hard yards, to be pushed aside for the big carnival riders, I'm a little surprised how many are coming over, given the race for big stakes in Australia regularly.i guess all with be unfamiliar with the new course, if that's ready for the big day.

Oh glad that's cleared up, guess I was not the only one a little confused , seems like it only spoiled one person's day.

Yes must be many a year, the Patterson team had to wait till the last race get a win, just as hard to win on the coast as anywhere else.

There was a better effort. Abre Chene ran in the Avondale Cup mid December 1979 over 2,200 and won the railway 01 Jan 1980.  This was a two week freshen up dropping from 2200 to 1200 mtrs I was on course and got the $8.00 odd  dividend.  The winner today ran several months  after the derby.
 
Abre Chene went on to win the the Air NZ stakes ridden by Lester Piggot in 1980.
