Unfortunately that's horses, and a shame they sent her to faraway places to get in foal, I'm sure a suitable sire could have been found closer to home, top preformed mares quite often don't carry it through to stud, real shame that she's passed on, but part n parcel of the racing game, hence to say we were warned on breeding horses, and our only attempt was close to disaster, and our mare won't be breeding anymore.

My local pharmacy was broken into last night, all the stocks of viagra were stolen, police are looking for hardened criminals.
I lost my job at the local subway shop, they'll never find anyone as good as me to fill that roll.

Typical labour trying to control everyone and everything, I'm a non smoker myself, but have no issues with any hardworking tax paying kiwi having a cigarillo, just like a few of us enjoying a bet or a beer or whatever, as for the enquiry into the covid response, it'll be just to appease the public, will cost more money for bugger all answers, I think I'll head down to supermarket, heard they make a nice ratatouille.

And the most worrying loss is the younger generation.    They dont sit at home watching tv racing as they never experienced the atmosphere you talk about and unless they have a direct connection to the industry most of the "modern generation" have been lost and hence the future clients, whether they be owners or just punters.,      Technology may be a wonderful thing but in some areas, and racing is one, it has caused an adverse effect.

Agreed but the cost is the atmosphere of being at the races - firstly marking the scratchings in your book - writing in the drivers for the next race (god only knows who is driving what in the next races until we are told) - cues to get a bet on - the thrill of running to the back of the tote - worrying about if you have time to collect, study the form and cue to place a bet for the next race. Meal to be fitted in whenever you could. Busy but enjoyable times.

Give Ellerslie a chance for gods sake, it needs to be used, have racing on it, maybe trials, it needs to get bedded in….

True things are a lot more modern and better than yesteryear, but at what cost, yes all the technology has made things faster, TV coverage better,  but unfortunately not the crowds of yesteryear, one doesn't have to attend the races, can sit at home with a beer and cigarillo, the crowds of the good old days will rarely be seen again, and some of the quality racing stock as well, but I guess we must live in the present day, but great to look back all the same.

The memories of the semaphore boards on the course listing drivers, riders, that had to be changed after every race, also the old tote boards, with the bands, and the balloon going up, my hasn't technology come along way, for the better? well that's a matter of opinion, hard to forget the good old days, things far less complicated.

agree Shad.yes the changes are incredible . But remember the big delay often at back of totes at collect windows esp in the dark at end of day/night .often the bar patrons (somewhat liquored up would start yelling and banging on the windows... or even worse behaviour. things were more basic but hardly better than today !! The films of races in the 60s and 70s bare no resemblance to modern slick productions as well. Its great today  but I dont think profitable gambling is any easier to achieve than previously.

Id confidently say that Latta has achieved more in racing than half of those trainers. They're all very good at their job, but Latta's record speaks for itself. Name a big race she hasnt won.
