i choose silence over expressing my opinion on this matter's creedence,
but it seems that Suffire drank not quite half the trough water that Quintastic did..and that Sound Proposition wasn't quite as thirsty as Quintastic.

More importantly has the contamination been reported to MAF? after all it's a dairy herd, someone, somewhere must be for the guillotine surely. The farmer, or is Wexford diversifying and share milking......

No evidence as administration , where does it say they looked for evidence of administration?
Reads like a cop out for mine, which isn't a shock pretty much what most people were expecting.
Hopefully there is more to come from the RIU?

Gonsta I am a bit cynical about charges being laid TODAY. One week short of Sound Proposition running third in the Derby and returning a positive to Cobalt. No doubt the RIU will be patting themselves on the back for bringing the charges within one year!

    This is a joke isn't it ?
Significantly different ... apparently only in the charges against them !
Why weren't they charged with administrating a prohibited substance ?
So they have PROOF that the water trough was contaminated ?  What levels of cobalt did the cattle have ?
So this ridiculous response from the stable was told to the Integrity Unit straight away ( so testing could be done ) or has this just been made up in the last few weeks ?
Absolutely appalling and no other trainers could have got away with the delay and subsequent actions.

Cattle being a similar body weight to a horse  could give you a comparison of Cobalt levels as the horses drinking out of the same trough.

Well well well [to coin a phrase] and pardon the pun.......well indeed, a dark and murky well, full of cobalt eh? then will the farmer be charged with cruelty by the RSPCA? for knowingly feeding such a toxic substance? were these cattle for human consumption, milk maybe? what a load of bollocks, small town NZ eh? we may as well be living in a Louisiana backwater where rednecks rule......any respect, gone now.

I agree with what you are saying but the race in question was almost 11 months ago and it is not a good look for our industry to let it drag on so long.

Sorry, excuse my ignorance as I was not living here when a steroid positive was announced, but how the hell can a steroid admin go unpunished.......I know it's 3rd world here, but God almighty, I can't wait for you to set me straight.....please.

I would like to  know if any of the NZ horses testing positive have been disqualified or not. Almost a year later and what has changed?  Are the horses  involved on the correct ratings? Are the horses that ran second, third, fourth etc. carrying the right ratings? Have the owners of these horses received the extra payments. Are these owners going to get interest on their delayed payments? Have any of these positive horses continued to win races now they are free from cobalt?  There are so many questions to be answered. What about all the punters that have been duped? Surely it has been long enough for at least some answers. .

I agree that the rule is a dog...ill thought out for the reasons you state. Race-day administration is a separate rule, and maybe an explanation or mitigation for a cobalt breach but otherwise irrelevant. Worse in that respect, particularly in NZ, there was no warning with the rule implementation that was a risk and possibly even high VB12 doses, close to but outside race-day as well. We don't really know. Regardless, there is a rule, with serious penalties and nothing, not even the obligatory relegation of horses has occurred. What exactly are they waiting for? If I make an inappropriate criticism of an official on here, I'm likely to be interviewed and charged in the morning. If you or I had a cobalt positive this week (even if clearly due to a misjudged or ignorant VB12 administration) do you think our horse/s would not have been relegated and no charges brought a year later?

I accept your argument on the Boldenone case but that doesn't apply here. I would argue that any new science is always what it is at the time the rule is applied. And it appears to be being applied based on that in Oz wrt Cobalt. Why not here?

That's true. However, the rule is about having  a prohibited substance present in a horse on raceday, regardless of how it got there isn't it? The hearing is the place for mitigating circumstances to be presented with respect to penalty etc. Same should have applied to the Boldenone case IMO as Biff points out. That set a dangerous precedent. An announced positive and no charge. You wonder why punters have a poor view of the integrity of NZ racing and are walking away?

And 11 months to bring the charges is hardly helping whatever the explanation or circumstances might be.

You can use cobalt in NZ, NZTR tell you your horse has it, but nothing happens. NZTR, just like the TAB, slow, fat and lazy!!

My experience, the Guy wouldn't know any more about racing than what his advisors have listed in his briefing papers. That's not good enough, he should know who won the main races the previous Saturday, not because he read the Sunday papers, but because he wants to like you and me. Watched most of them or if busy caught up with replays, Weigh In etc. He should know what good racing is coming up both here and in Oz, that is what a passionate racing person does. That is what a good Minister of Racing would be like.

I recently wrote to the Minister of Racing, complaining about the poor state of racing in New Zealand. I mentioned Stake Money,Trial Fees and the donation of monies from the TAB into online accounts!!, where does this money come from I wanted to know. Unfortunately in his reply on December 17 2015 he ignored these concerns, but assured me " that the Government has currently no plans to become involved in providing stake money."
He went on to tell me something we all know, that the New Zealand  racing industry is very important as it contributes  $1.6 billion to New Zealand's GDP and provides the equivalent of some 17,000 fulltime jobs , it appears to me all take and no give, and this is not good enough.(think of the tax take.)
I also asked him whether he wanted to be remembered as useless as his predecssor, he said he is "committed to working with the racing industry to ensure it is sustainable in the long term. and continues to provide an enjoyable and colourful recreation option for  New Zealanders ."  yeah  right!

It's much more important than any of these idiots know.
How about the fact that it's easily the biggest employer of "unskilled" workers. No disrespect intended and I don't know where we would be without them, but many of our most important lower paid staff would struggle to find employment if not in racing. Surely that is something that the government can't afford to have fail.
