To be based in Wgtn I see, which seems strange when everything else is moving north.

Right or wrong its what he said.
I think he does get a bit confused. He was quoted as saying he was displeased with the whole situation. Which I thought was a strange use of words as he was the one responsible. Perhaps disappointed might have been more accurate.
3,000 tonnes would be about 120 truck and trailer loads, which wouldn't be cheap.

You'd have to wonder why nobody steps in before all the damage is done, particularly when other clubs have made similar mistakes.
You are suggesting that NZTR should be a shining light, inspiration and source of all knowledge for the Racing industry?

Contentious I think the amount was 90 tonnes.
If more sand was the answer to the problem it does make you wonder why they didn't follow the Te Rapa model in the first place. I'm sure Te Rapa didn't cost $55m.
Now that NZTR has discovered the magic of sand, Foxton must be thinking they are sitting on a gold mine and just waiting for the call up.

I see Hastings isn't going to be ready for the 27th April meeting now , hence another reshuffle of CD meetings .
Seriously you couldn't make up the shambles with our tracks over the last 2 seasons in particular .
If someone had said 5 years ago this was going to happen with all our major tracks even the most skeptical among us would have scoffed .
Just as well they didn't get their way and close all the tracks they wanted to quickly , I think , and I could be wrong , but I think Te Rapa is the only track that hasn't had a meeting canned for an unsafe surface . That alone speaks volumes about the state of our racing .
Ellerslie , Trentham and Riccarton , our supposed flagship tracks are currently letting the industry down in a major way , along with Hastings and Awapuni , New Plymouth and to a lesser extent Otaki , the CD has an endemic problem all of their own .
Rudderless doesn't even start to describe the leadership .
And here's a thought to finish with , what if Entain hadn't come along ??????
I was staggered at that race track of the year thing that Ellerslie won. Te Rapa has carried racing in the north for the last couple of years. Without Te Rapa northern racing would have had to close down. And to think they want to get rid of Te Rapa as well.

Berri was meant to be racing again next season, she wasn't going to be retired.
You obviously know her well. The rest of us just know her as Imperatrix.
Will she be going straight to a broodmare sale?

I looked at it from a different perspective........... My bet was not completed I was still live , what about the loosers money ?
That's why you got paid out 10 times. You got a tiny percentage of $97. If the fav had won the last you would have got a tiny percentage of about $20. You did quite well.

Not sure what you expected. You had $1.20, $1.70 and $3 winners and only had a tiny percentage of it.. You actually benefited from the last leg being abandoned. If the red hot had won that you would have got a couple of dollars back.

Locals probably don't realise there is a meeting at Trentham. Probably not used to Trentham racing with blue skies and sunshine either.

28 at riccarton but they can cambridge under 60 nztr rules
Yes I did wonder about that. So with less than 60 they can't run at Cambridge, but any numbers will do at Riccarton? And this is an actual regulation?

I have always liked Australia's best maiden, Cap Ferrat. Looked like he was building up nicely to the Derby distance, but I'm not sure about the wet track.

Next time. It certainly looks like a boom place.

Five trials with 26 starters on the AWT at Riccarton tomorrow.

I actually believe the presentation would be a lot better if they just got rid of the dross, all the crap races jammed in between others.
I agree. I kept switching over to trackside 2 last saturday to watch the Australian provincial meetings and they were busy previewing low grade races from Addington. Totally ignored the Aussie races even when there wasn't a clash with a NZ race. I have no idea if they recorded them and played them later or not because by then I had switched back to the Flemington and Rosehill races.

nomates as well as owners missing out the NZTR is in effect giving trainers and jockeys a pay cut over winter. Pity they won't give themselves the same proportional pay cut!
And at the same time trainers are compelled to race on the AWTs most of the time, and likely even more so with so many tracks out of action. Certainly makes it tough for a trainer to place horses carefully.

I'm not sure why folk are suddenly complaining about this when it was announced as part of the 23/24 FY funding almost a year ago and everyone was applauding the increases. 40k races are also dropping to 35k for the winter.
And $50,000 races are dropping to $40,000. But they mostly have shocking fields anyhow and usually can't attract 8 starters.
-
Incompetent and ignorant I would suggest.
Could someone explain to me the reasoning behind the $25,000 twilight meetings? Are they supposed to attract massive on course attendances, massive off course turnovers, do they appeal to Aussie punters? Fields generally aren't flash, trainers don't really care, so they don't really achieve anything that I can see. Potentially up to $65,000 in additional stakes per meeting compared to a normal meeting. Probably need $1m in extra turnover to fund that. Surely that money would help keep stakes at $18,500 for another month or so?
The $800,000 odd bonus' they dished out for being placed in a couple of group races probably would have funded decent stakes all winter. I don't believe those bonus payments boosted fields in the slightest and probably didn't add $1 to turnovers on those races.
The current regime doesn't really have any understanding about how best to allocate stakes for the good of NZ Racing.

Anyone even contemplating turning down a $1m+ offer for a relatively untired horse needs only to be told one word;: Kinane.

Apparently Te Aroha has been a great success.

I was lucky enough to see him win the St George Stakes at Caulfield back in 2004. Magnificent looking horse, very compact. Being black possibly helped. Did he stamp his progeny with that compact look?
