There is going to be changes in the RIU and JCA in the new year according to Harness Trainers association, if there is a shifting of staff that might help sort things out in the Stipes, Starters, and staff area, we can only hope. I would say this is where it has to happen as it is quite obvious that most of the clubs have put this issue in the to hard basket, and as long as he is under the RIU wing nothing will change.

Yes it was very good series of races all the drivers preformed well. The sad thing about it was the presentation after the races, it came up on trackside for a few seconds with all the competitors, Greg O'Connor and spicer then, Trackside switch to the greyhounds so we can watch a person hosing and sweeping the starting boxes and the divies for the next race; this went on for almost 5 mins with a fucking presenter talking about the upcoming greyhound race These young drivers deserved better than that, they need their day in the sun.I dont know why but trackside seem to go out of the way to piss people off, well it worked for me , I cashed out in last at Addington turned the bloody lap top off. I believe that Ultimate Sniper is an absolute top horse, but Lazarus was a champion he was in another zone or a different planet from the other horses that he raced against and there was some very top horses among them and he destroyed them. I remember talking to Mark at Rangiora one day he said words couldn't express what it was like training and driving him, and if Mark felt that way you know that Lazarus was a complete champion. He was the best of the best.

Look at harness racing, Mark P fined only 300 for not driving a horse out at the finish then is caught again maybe involved in team driving in the ID heats nothing has come out about that at this stage. I think that the decision on race 2 at Auckland is another cock up the RIU and the JCA seem to be hellbent on trying to be nice people but they are letting down the owners, punters and race goers and it needs to be sorted out ASAP. Mick do us a favor and stay in Australia, Trackside get Mat Cross and Greg on the box seat far more enjoyable if MG cannot work it out, that one of the all time greats Lazarus was bred ,born and owned in NZ won 2 NZ CUPS and a host other Group 1 races, and could quite conceivably go to be one of the all time world greats. They call it progress, it will now alternate between NZM and ALEX ,the rich get richer and all the support, and the poor get poorer and no support, that's the way the system works. Great system if you are one of the rich clubs.

I love jewels day, really enjoy mile racing on the day { but not everyday} the expectation of a world record, but that is not going to happen at Addington they will run over 1950, most trainers will tell you that 1950 racing is brutal especially on young horses . I have been lucky enough to have owned and trained horses to win at Addington but there is no real atmosphere there nowadays, and unless I have a horse that qualifies to participate I and my mates and wives wont be there, it will be a day sitting around the TV at home.

This not the first time this has happened , it has been an ongoing issue for sometime now possibly caused by financial restraints. I believe the club had work done on the drainage as recently as last week to try and rectify the problem, obviously it was not successful. If clubs want to survive nowadays then they need to get their act together, the last thing they need is losing a meeting because of pore track maintenance. They lost boxing day and now the Jewels , if they are not careful the flying stakes could go as well NZMET would no doubt love to get that as well. Personally I find this sad, I love the rural meetings the families, the friends, the relaxed atmosphere, no traffic problems and not a bloody concrete jungle.
