Just watched this race and the whole field looked like they were in a trial running down the straight. The only one who showed any urgency was B Orange and then that broke when pushed. The track was obviously trickier than it looked and being maiden trotters they all were holding them together.
Saying that R Allen made no effort to use the passing lane and at least look as though he was giving his horse a chance to close on the winner even if he wasnt going to make it. Not a good look when there was no opportunity  given to the horse while held right up on the leaders back. As for the penalty, given he seldom drives even his own horses, he would not be missing many drives in the coming months.  Interesting to note the horse was 5/4 in the betting. 
 

STILL EYRE - Stewards questioned trainer/driver R Allen regarding the tactics he adopted over the final 400 metres, in particular the lack of vigour he displayed and the reasons why he did not shift the gelding inwards to utilize the vacant Passing Lane in the home straight. After hearing Mr Allen's explanation Stewards issued a charge under Rule 868(2) alleging he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure STILL EYRE was given full opportunity to win the race. Mr Allen admitted the breach and after hearing submissions on penalty, the JCA imposed a suspension of Mr Allen's horseman's licence from the close of racing today up to and including 26 October 2018, and in addition a fine of $500
This looked very bad at the time and even  the commentator half pie made reference to the drive. 8 months is a hefty suspension as is the 500 fine but he pleaded guilty

Geoff Martins first drive back today after 15 month off and drives Danke very well for 3rd. Great place money. Interesting to watch his drives from now one. Am sure he will be under a lot of watchfull eyes

No ,I don't actually think he is on the money all the time and have said so several times on here. If you had paid attention you would know that.

Trotting sale strong as no AS dominating races or as we noted not appearing on the buyer board .
Auckland sales I counted a total of 15 purdon or purdon stable supporters  yearling purchases while I think Dunn next at 4 .
The average buyer is saying they take the cream and no fairytale stories to get them excited so they have given up .
Then we get PGG doing what they did 30 years ago -
Where was the advertising to get new 30-40 year old buyers - Radio like Edge etc ( not ZB etc )?
Where was the articles about hero horses like Lazurus bought from the sales put in front of the 30 year old etc?
Where is promoting the dream of owning a horse and the fun with it?
Where is the push by PGW for MET Club to get its finger out of its -     ar .. e and get syndicates running again for new owners in etc . We need a new sales promotion- go to the advertising gurus to sort something .
The blood of Auckland will continue tomorrow as the trotting breed is the present favoured type as no AS competition.
My humble view .

Your blind support in FTM is disappointing for a reasoned person.
I believe with the help of FTM's first comment on the Dunn stable it clearly puts the second comment in its rightful context of being condescending and demeaning towards the Dunn stable.
And how can a person actually be in a position to write the words the 'NZ TAB are grateful' and 'for providing product to such (low class) meetings'? I would hardly think the TAB, as an entity, are grateful for anything. An amazingly condescending comment and bewildering one at that when one actually reads it closely.
We will wait to see if FTM wants to clarify what he meant but his track record of disdain for anything other than the All Stars means it is derogatory.

Average cost per starter would be interesting.
RJ has a lot of Toyotas and Purdon a lot of BMWs .
BMWs breakdown more and cost more to get fixed - from personal experience.

Well that was fun. Now Andrew Campbell has two girls with the bug for Harness. My other granddaughter had a go as well and loves it.
Mate this is living the dream for grandad who has been a harness nut for over 50 yrs. Life couldnt be any better than this.

When Border Control had his 2nd start as a 3yo under the previous system he was eligble for a Maiden Race.
At this stage of his career he had raced 13 times for 8 wins 3 seconds and 2 thirds earning stakes of $171,825.
Under the current system he would have been R83 (Maximum 2yo rating of 75 plus 8 points for winning a 1 win race at his 1st 3yo start)

Uncle Jasper was another adversary.
I remember Captain Cavalla beating Kotare Sterling and a horse I was a huge fan of in Keystone Surprise at Addington one night.
The Swingers and Dance Exponents at the Hillsborough.
Those were the days for sure.

If a trainer ever has thoughts of expanding the size of his stable it should be him.
That man works miracles.
