Interesting how David Ellis said that when he saw Hall Of Fame at the Ready To Run sales he said he was the closest looking comparison to his damsire Galileo that he has ever seen.
If this was the case interesting that he didn't buy him in the ring but waited for him to be passed in first before looking at him again and then making the purchase
Another nice fabricated sales/ potential stallion making story there for Te Akau?

Whilst I agree with a lot of what you say TM, I do not agree that Mr Purcell was 'not as bad' or the presenters were OK. I take a view that as New Zealanders you should always have a Kiwi running the show. How can Mr Purcell have a passion that a Kiwi has, as corny as it sounds, watching NZ Racing collapse while I lived and worked in 3 different countries it sickened me to see 'foreigners' appointed on huge salaries, all leaving without improving the product.......I don't use the word apathy lightly, and I really feel sad for those in this industry that couldn't change or influence those in charge as the bus careered across the highway into oncoming traffic, however, we use a catch-phrase in our business, ''it's not the problem it's how you fix the problem that's important'........
We could sell up and piss off back across the Tasman, just putting our venture down to 'a lost opportunity' what's a million bucks down the drain.......more, our investment is close to 1 and a half mil, chicken feed compared to the Lindsay's, however, it's the investors we had in tow with their 10 mil plus that should set the alarm bells off.
In closing, most of you will see I've been passionate on here for some years, the likes to my posts are humbling and I truly thank you all, I bet when St Peter ticks his manifest when welcoming you good buggers there will be an entry clause, you get to fly business or first on your final journey..... if you were a regular on racecafe!

How is it not sustainable, when these smaller clubs fund themselves?
Please educate yourself and stop looking for a silver bullet solution that isnt there. What happens to the horse population at these centres your going to close down? The Wellington card would have 40% less runners without these smaller centres just this Saturday alone. The horses & people wont just up & abandon these places & move to one of your super centres, youll lose all that community & participation this is without mentioning nzracing will be lucky to save a $ or acquire funds by doing so. Not to mention the existing tracks cant cope with current demand let alone more!

NZTR have a club funding policy with the focus and majority of money going to four major clubs and 16 others.
Ellerslie is the premier venue and rightly so. It is slap bang in the middle of a population base of 2 million people, it does have the best facilities of any club in the country and the best horses do race there but here is the rub: other than three or four days of the year no one attends the other race days and that includes the Auckland Cup run stupidly midweek with that day being rightly canned now and raced on the Saturday and Derby Day. The track can't take the racing it already has and they shut the track down and shift dates to Ruakaka for three months.
Boxing Day and New Years Day people attend (New Years day would be far bigger if the Cup was back on that day) and Karaka Millions night is big but they have a problem getting people on course at most other meetings. What happened on 29th December. You could have fired a gun into the place and hit no one. Nine races and 103 starters and the on course turnover a paltry $77,993.
A day later Taupo raced, hardly any facilities, 7000 people turn up and the on-course turnover was $176,369 on eight races with just 64 starters. ( Rotorua on the 27th, eight races, 88 starters and on-course turnover $174,227.)
Ellerslie and Taupo, city and country racing, a place for both wouldn't you say.
    Tauherenikau 2nd January.  8 races 63 starters and on-course turnover $192,791.

Gee, cutting Gore would leave a bit of a gap in Southland.
The problem in NZ over many years has been the poor relative performances of the metropolitan tracks; such as Ellerslie, Te Rapa, Trentham, Riccarton, Wingatui. They are basically all basket-cases.
Pouring more money into those venues is unlikely to achieve a lot, sadly, without other major changes as well.

Always tough when a mare misses but 3 out of 4 is quite high.
While I agree our prize money in NZ is nothing like what is on offer in Australia we still offer a cheaper place to breed horses. Do we all agree here?
Breeding a 1600m to 3200m horse in NZ then leaving them here until they are up and going as late 2yo's or early 3yo's is also cheaper here than Australia.
I feel bringing them up in our NZ conditions without the pressure to perform as 2yo's also gives them a better chance to stay sound and race on as older horses.
Breed them in NZ and if they are good enough race them in Australia.
The Australians come here to buy our 1600m plus horses like the proven Savabeel, Tavistock, Pentire, Shocking and we also offer some super exciting new stallions in our ranks.

I have watched a few of the races from trentham today and I must say Jason has been calling very well. Just watched Rock On's race and I thought he did a perfect job. He doesn't fall into George's trap of anticipating the horses finishing out wide far too early and forgetting all about the horses actually in front. He calls the race as it is actually happening, which I suspect is more helpful for most casual racegoers.

Well we could equally quote Banjo Paterson's poem 'riders in the stand'.  I don't criticize riders for the way they ride nor trainers for the way they train either. What is a bloody annoying about trainers is when you send a message or a text and it is ignored.  A recent example was twice advising a prominent NZ Trainer that he had not sent a bill for a months training fees.  Ignored both times - there must be plenty of money in the game.

Like them all that moan about commentators put your demo tape up so we can all see how the experts do it. I have listened to J Teaz over a few years now and especially over the last few weeks. The guy is doing a great job and doesn't need armchair experts criticizing him.

I agree with this comment fully. I believe the greatest handicap to racing is the fields. The stakes are so low that most owners cannot afford to keep racing their horses and anything that shows promise is immediately sold overseas and as a consequence both the numbers and quality of fields drop off. Good horses attract people who generally then like to have a wager. Whether it is $1 or $10 who cares . The important thing is that they do

Hell yeah,  a Gypsy in charge of a TB site. Now that would bring the house down. The word doesn't bother me one iota, it was the one-upmanship taking place with character assasinations that belittles the whole affair. Your show ,you run it as you see fit, but maybe a bit of self analysis would come in handy.

    Three points if I may...
    1. 'F' is no longer a bomb. I am happy to say I do not move in circles of people that would find that offensive.
    2. Seriously Leo, go back and re-watch Clinton v Trump, the first debate. She just laid the bait, and he couldn't help himself. Rise above.

As an outsider (harness), this little debate appears not only strange (one f...-bomb --- really??) and entertaining, but also rather informative about the policing of this site. We've now had four warnings and an apparent ban for those criticising midget in (generally) measured tones, while midget himself has been able to merrily engage in his usual abusive style and not a word is said.  Some animals are clearly more equal than others...

Yep , Leo can do no wrong. If it had been any other of us posting just his tripe in this thread we would be on the mat, no surprise from all the apologists who are shy of him. The personal attacks that are his trademark would not be tolerated from any other poster
We could have some sympathy or humour for the situation if it was an embarrassing slip of the tongue but it was the typical Leo cocking his leg to mark his territory.

Ok guys and girls, it is what it is . Point scoring time is over. This forum has somewhat sunk Race Café to new depths and being a window into the machinations of the Racing industry it is doing it no favours.  Midget  ,allowing for your personality type, I do realise underneath you are passionate about the industry you are involved in. Just move on , and involve yourself in some positive undertaking for the above said.

You aren't the only one to complain to the BSA (trivial, pathetic apologies already received by Trackside) RIU are also looking into it as this may well bring racing into disrepute (LOL) Sir Patrick was not impressed to hear what was said either or that he had just presented the trophy to the "classy" Midget before his arrogant, disgusting, outburst, anything but class which ruined a G1 event.

You are right anyone can make a mistake. However the big deal is the seamingly apologist  and confrontational attitude against anyone who complains.
Now if Greg Purcell used the four letter word on TV then Midget would be the first calling for his sacking.
Lets not be hypocritical the simple fact is that the interview was an embarrassment to TV, the club, the owners, trainers and all involved when it should have been a great occasion for family, participants and connections.
