Rogie could go head to head with all on this site and would come out streets ahead of most and for the few that could logically debate with him, would at least come out even. He has achieved just about everything possible within this industry, has huge respect, wears his heart on his sleeve, has got more new participants into racing than almost anyone else. He is flamboyant, expressive, fun, maybe at times a little extravagant, but a dumb man he is most definitely not. We could do with a few more Rogie's, well done that man.

Roughly 40% of the horses traded at Karaka yesterday are going offshore, probably more once the pass in's are paid for, great export dollars, but the domestic market will pay the price. Of course the domestic horses will also be contenders to be traded later in the year at the ready to run, plus the 'performers' from this sale will also disappear.....today will be no exception.
Perhaps if we rivalled Oz stakes wise or even got close, if we provided the conditions like, incentives and starters bonus's to encourage owners, new owners, to race here, our good horses would remain, our outstanding young yearlings could grow into great Kiwi athletes, what a great world [racing] we would have.......when I look at the smug dial on Mr Guy at Karaka, what a hide to even turn up there, I feel sick in the pit of my belly, I bet a lot of you do too.

Yeahh but we don't have the horses for that kind of structure which they continue to try and create. Hence the cheating and absence of a middle of the road more competitive and more likely  sustainable stakes structure.

Have a talk to the people that have tried to do that.

Pretty easy to sit back anonymously behind the safety of a keyboard and continually criticize NZ racing. No its not in a good way at the moment, but yes it can get better. Rather than hiding behind the computer screen wouldn't it be far more constructive to say, start a thread airing your issues and you proposed resolutions to those issues. I agree that Petone are getting it wrong and on a regular basis, but complaining anonymously on social media certainly isn't going to change anything. Change starts with forward thinking and proactivity..... Just my 2 cents

I agree that Petone are getting it wrong and on a regular basis, but complaining anonymously on social media certainly isn't going to change anything. Change starts with forward thinking and proactivity..... Just my 2 cents

The Vet that passed Magic Dancer fit to run after the stalls episode should be disciplined IMO. Anyone who has held a trainers licence should know when a horse sits down it can damage gluteus muscles or hamstrings or across the rump/lower back.........it's the worst sight, a horse sitting in the barriers should be an automatic out!........punters and connections done like a dinner.

After the race he mentioned he would be spot on for the Herbie Dyke and that was the race yesterday he felt if he was going to get beat it was yesterday something along those lines.
Sports Illustrated was supposed to be flying yesterday as well according to Trainer and the horses jockey so can't see how you can claim she was under done but Kawi wasn't?

After all of the discussion about what is wrong with NZ racing and knocking of horses no one has mentioned Kawi's win. Pretty impressive I thought, did everything he had to do and won well. Didn't run away and hide as they say, but a win's a win. Very clever ride and possibly a horse that just does as much as he has to. No real excuse for the others all things considered.

Oh dear....and you couldn't even differentiate between a bush jockey (Richard Bensley) and a TV presenter Andrew Bensley. Will have to put you in the same category as those you are moaning about.

I think you will find alot of horses in at gore that didn't go to the coast circuit. 43 noms for the maiden 1335 at gore so split it into 3 races. It doesn't help having no racing since the start of the month in the south island except for the tight turning front running tracks on the west coast. It would be a big ask for any horse to back up for 7 and 8k races next week after either a trip south to gore for 20k plus races or racing on the coast every 3 days. I'm not sure if judging next week's meeting is a fair indiction of racing in the south island. 

I'm really hoping Jimmy Mac can win the cup to keep the big bonus hopes alive, I think it adds a bit more to the race.

Yes, if you wanted to watch Flemington or Randwick switch over.....it's not hard. One channel for domestic racing giving in depth coverage and the other for offshore racing.  

Agree with the above comments.Took them long enough to finally work it out !!!!!

I have viewed this race once again and I am happy to give Matt the benefit of the doubt with having to stop riding short of the line in restricted room. What I did find is the horse isn't hanging at all in fact the horse is very tractable until Matt brings his right arm out to angle the horse into the clear and that is where you see the horse turn its head to the side. 
Now lets say this was a group one race. I am sure he would of got the horse off the fence from between the 800 to the 500 where he had the choice to do this at any time he wanted to but instead he stayed on the rail and once he got to the turn was boxed in with very few options.
Anyway so easy for us grandstand jocks, I do think Matt is a very good jock and most times you get a good run for your money, I would have confidence in backing Matt before the other 90% of riders in this country

Once in a lifetime stuff, chance at being involved in a champ.
What guts me is the negative , nay-sayers like yourself in the industry.
I realise black is white,long is short,up is down,good is bad, to you, but stop being a twit for 5 minutes and enjoy Da Hoof.

Was simply asking a question. Not really a punter myself. $100 E/W is a substantial bet for me. But if I didn't like the way a jockey rode a horse that I have shares in or have punted then i simply would look for a new jockey to ride or not back them. Simple. Certainly wouldn't anonymously air my grievance on social media. Again just my 2 cents.

You guys are kidding, he tried to get it off the fence, it was hanging in, he could do nothing about it... geez talk about talking through your pocket.
 

Frank has put a lifetime into this industry, hes a good horseman and a kind heart. without people like him we wouldnt have an industry. Just because hes not a big noting trainer with expensive horses and rich owners you guys criticize.  Someone has to run last, just as someone has to win each race.  Get a life

24 year old male wanting work experience in the thoroughbred industry, Stable or Stud. Available mid June to mid August during off season at work. I'm Hard working, reliable and a fast learner. Bit of a breeding/pedigree tragic, real passion for the industry. Not from a racing family although I have small shares in 4 fillies . I'm based in Taranaki but would definitely consider anything in nz. Not looking to be paid just eager to learn. Pm or reply if anyone knows of anything. Thanks in advance.
