  1. Liked the preview show this morning although couldn't help but feel a little bit for some of the connections of the less fancied runners. Like when Piece of Kates chances were described as being more like 1000-1. Great for the connections to have a runner in the race. All in all though good show!
  2. Horses are like humans shad. all take different amounts of work to get up to peak fitness and keep fitness. You might have heard trainers say a horse is "very clean winded" which in a round about way means they hold fitness so they dont take alot of work to get up to race day fitness...... i think sure others will be able to enlighten you further.
  3. Some "xcellent" points raised here biff. Unsure how we could rival oz stakes but as they say Rome wasn't built in a day. 100% agree with starters bonuses, incentives to attract new owners to the industry. Probably a naive suggestion but as the majority of horses are maidens and will always remain a maiden. and although you wouldn't want to detract from the quality of racing, why not potentially increase stakes for maiden races?? more horses are maidens, meaning more owners own those horses and would be more likely to re invest or at least stay in the game longer if through either better stakes or incentives that their training bill of say $2500 a month only cost them $2000.
  4. Pretty easy to sit back anonymously behind the safety of a keyboard and continually criticize NZ racing. No its not in a good way at the moment, but yes it can get better. Rather than hiding behind the computer screen wouldn't it be far more constructive to say, start a thread airing your issues and you proposed resolutions to those issues. I agree that Petone are getting it wrong and on a regular basis, but complaining anonymously on social media certainly isn't going to change anything. Change starts with forward thinking and proactivity..... Just my 2 cents Michael D Boland
  5. So how is Colac properly pronounced??
  6. Was simply asking a question. Not really a punter myself. $100 E/W is a substantial bet for me. But if I didn't like the way a jockey rode a horse that I have shares in or have punted then i simply would look for a new jockey to ride or not back them. Simple. Certainly wouldn't anonymously air my grievance on social media. Again just my 2 cents. Cheers Michael D Boland
  7. Just wandering what a Substantial wager is?? 5,10,20K+ If you don't like how a jockey rides don't book them to ride your horses or back them to win the race. Just my 2 cents
  8. Please remove if this isn't the right place. 24 year old male wanting work experience in the thoroughbred industry, Stable or Stud. Available mid June to mid August during off season at work. I'm Hard working, reliable and a fast learner. Bit of a breeding/pedigree tragic, real passion for the industry. Not from a racing family although I have small shares in 4 fillies . I'm based in Taranaki but would definitely consider anything in nz. Not looking to be paid just eager to learn. Pm or reply if anyone knows of anything. Thanks in advance. Cheers Mike

  10. Lot 557! Sister has a bit of potential. If only my bank manager wasn't so tight when lending out the $$$$$ :s
  11. Brilliant for the team around kawi, especially with the band wagoners that are around these days. Reminds me of when she's sinsational ran over at the Hawkes bay carnival and didn't win the first two days and all the knockers came out, yet Alan got her up to her pet distance of 2000m and she licked them. Paid a massive price too. Super trainer is Alan sharock. Got the result he deserves.
  12. Just a bit of consistency is all anyone wants. To me it didn't look like Sam stopped riding red striker but obviously stewards saw this differently. Definitely frustrating though
  13. Just wandering if anyone knows if theres any stand down periods from owning a racehorse after the entry of a conviction?? any info appreciated.
