  1. I agree it's somewhat sad that a lot of our promising horses get sold. But there is a positive side to this also right. There is a good market for the Kiwi product. This flows back to other players like the studs eh
  2. I've listened to Dan in a few trots meets etc. I think this guy is a real talent and totally agree with Insider
  3. Thanks for the update Insider. Hopefully they can at least get the track in top shape for the spring carnival.
  4. Thanks for the info canon. Top rider and bloke so I wish him well
  5. Is the Richard Cully who trained the winner the ex Kiwi jumps rider? Thx
  6. I know Orchestral is special but wasn't she in the back half last week Goes forward 3-4 wide from the 700 around the bend about 8 wide and wins easy. I also backed Provence yesterday who was second last at the 500 and won. There is a slight rail fwd bias at the mo. I think it may even up somewhat over time.
  7. I thought the track played a lot better yesterday with more water applied during the week.
  8. Sorry the $257 vs $243.1m turnover. Is this FY24 year to date vs the same period last financial year? It's a bit confusing as the column has FY23 and 22 at the top. Thanks
  9. Is the corner banked at all? Those other Strathayr surfaces like The Valley look better banked giving the horses from the back half a better chance. I hate to say this but last night reminded me of Ruakaka.
  10. This was a shambles of a race caused by a lack of early pace. The comment about Entain is overly negative. We have seen a number of big positives from them incl big stakes increases, Pearl series etc But they can't fix everything in NZ racing overnight.
  11. Totally agree. It always makes me laugh when the winner say stays on the rail in the first and it's an inside bias. Maybe it was just the best horse eh
  12. You are 100% correct Pete. It's not just the stakes in races but the only way that smaller trainers and studs can survive is selling horses to Aus and Hong Kong. Those markets want sprinter / Miller types eh There is still good money stakes for Derby /Oaks and Cups in Aus though. Still a place for us to develop horses with some patience I think. Need to get some more quality fresh blood in the stallion ranks
  13. She is a good jock but that was an awful ride
  14. That young guy Dan Fogarty def has potential. Is he in the mix?
  15. Despite all the hype and presuming Imperatriz doesn't start this will actually be a modest field for a $20m race Aside from I Wish in the autumn how many of the others have won a G1 1200m race??
  16. What renovations are they doing on the grass at Awapuni thx??
  17. This seems to be the best surface in CD What would it cost roughly to upgrade the drainage & the horse facilities and have top class racing there?? Who really needs a grandstand now Thx Matt
  18. Totally agree Great win and top ride
  19. How many less kgs should a 2yr old have over a 3yr old if racing now at wfa? The reason I ask is a 3yr old in oct get a massive weight relief in cox eh. It seems a tough gig for a 2yr old now if it gets minimal weight relief?
  20. This is an excellent initiative and Scooby is 100% correct we need to be more positive I do note that the acceptance fee is $25k x 14 starters + nom fees So circa $450k of this stake is funded by owners eh
  21. If sustainable I agree a great result for nz racing
  22. Shame because Johnno and Holly seem to do an excellent job
  23. Those Deep Impact line horses are so athletic eh Where does that factor come from??
  24. Sorry team I was dropped on my head as a baby and I'm still not 100% clear here 1. Last year $140m distributed to the 3 codes 2. I understand the $150m over 5 years watered down by 40m going into reserves and money to sports etc leaves circa $11.5m year 1 into thoroughbred racing etc all per de Lores article All good 3. BUT I dont understand the $180m per year distribution sorry (assuming profits stay the same and no geo blocking legislation) Can someone pls explain Many thx Matt
