Good memories Mark.....over the years its been a lightweights Cup.
In early days Irish Twist won with 6 st 7 lbs. = 41.3kg
And Du Maurier smoked them with 7 st  6lbs. = 47.2 kg
Very few winners near 9 st.....57 kgs
Millionaire Military Move recently won with 58 kgs ,....the topweight carried  59.......beating Who Shot Thebarman who was on bottom weight of 53 kg.
Of course minimums have risen over the years , and more female jockeys and overseas lightweights essential !

I did and he's too gutless to put a name up on this forum, he might be making things up or he might not but the rules on this forum, and correctly so, is don't make posts you cant substantiate. As  the site owner said and i repeatedly  have said many times you are Innocent until proven guilty. Yes C jones has been charged but he is still innocent so saying someone else is also a "cheating bastard" is nonsense at this point.
I  have never condoned any of the Harness or TB cheats who were caught and suspended. They deserved all they got.
Need i remind you and others of all the charges made on here about all the guilty cheats with respect to operation INCA. How many have been found guilty?

I seem to remember Rondel beating Sapling at Addington. That was a decent upset as well.

One of Maher’s owners contacted me yesterday a pointed out that Ceiran had taken over Darren Weirs yard, hence the hypobaric chamber etc….
I’ve been there to see that in operation, it’s impressive, and in addition to that treadmill he has four hypobaric boxes they can sleep in at night, to simulate altitude training
It does demonstrate what lengths you can legally go to if you have access to real money

No doubt a poor drive, but a few observations ....

When you invite amateurs to drive in tote races you open up this sort of thing. Why many of us don't bet on them. I could say similar things about amateur jockey races which often see horses making runs wide along way from home etc etc.
The pro's often do this sort of thing - seemingly without censure.
Inconsistency is an issue even though the RIU dismiss that out of hand. I part owned a horse which set the fastest lead time Mark Mac the commentator could recall. Stopped at the 600 like it was shot (and it was a decent enough animal). Questions of the driver .... no.
Apply this approach to all races and drivers and this sort of decision won't strike us all as a bit unusual...

This week 99 noms which is about as good as it gets in the North with 84 acceptors for ten races but with some odd (imo) handicapping. This week there is a mobile and a standing trot rating 40-69 and 40 to 60. Would it not be more even to run a 40-50 with 10 starters and a 51-69 with nine starters for a better balance. In the mobile an R40 horse is running against an R60 (4 win) horse off the same marks. Given that trotting numbers have increased markedly in recent times, I note plenty of opportunities for 2 & 3yo pacers running separately for males and females but virtually nothing like the same for trotters. While current 2yolds are essentially 3yolds there are a lot more around at this time of the year compared to the Sires Stakes races and Jewels of May/June. Lack of number is the excuse but all programmes are tentative so why can't such races at least be in the mix. Granted, Auckland did run a 2yo trot a month ago with 7 starters though reduced from 8 with a late scratching but this week, for example, there are three x 6 horse fields - all pacing races - and every meeting Auckland has races of 5/6/7 starters going back as far as you like. There is no doubt the industry is ailing and though it still has a hard core of enthusiasts willing to put their hard-earned into horseflesh, even the most ardent will turn to something else if their horses are not catered for on a regular basis.

tasman man got a reaction from Huey in In my opinion(for what it’s worth)
Agreed......but similarly there are huge pressures from many other interested and invested parties for Racing to go ahead ,particularly on a Group 1 day etc.
Let's wait till we 'gather the facts' and the NZTR investigation should uncover if the Raceday checks were carried out in the morning AND if any process was triggered once the Senior jockey's concerns were expressed to the Head stipe.
Was it a casual mention while passing at the powder room door.....Oh that track looks a bit rough today !  'Nah ,looks OK to me !'
Jockeys know they hold a lot of power when it comes H & S issues .
Surely a concern would be something that a number of jockeys would discuss........safety in numbers ,not a lone bunny.
The process would then be triggered and as the process sheet in a previous post explains the various groups are consulted and discussion takes place .
This obviously happened at some stage after the first race , and this led to the abandonment !
    So.....gather the facts !

    Wow !
Reading all the expert opinions on here and demanding 'heads roll ' has me wondering who do we blame for these ongoing shambolic incidents.
Here and elsewhere a number of individuals and committees are apportioned the blame.
IMO Trentham has been a shambles for 20 years or more ...a couple of my best neddies have been badly affected by either a rough hard surface or a poorly overwatered shambles.
This ain't new....Winnie got sick of the excuses so looked to Messara for an outsiders opinion.
Two of Messaras strong recommendations were to close tracks  [rationalisation] ,which had been a strong wish as far back as 1970 .......he found our tracks facilities ,courses and buildings were well below an average acceptable level.
He commented there was NOT a single track of high quality racing surface.
He recommended that all attention be given to the remaining 28  courses ,all of whom needed a race course surce reconstuction.
Of course we know many Racing folks reaction to his report........'the dynamics of a previous era'..........Our club or track isnt too bad , close others if any !
Us in NZ racing have ourselves to blame ...no one else...thankfully Ellerslie/Pukekohe are doing something about it.
My other question from Saturday is why the Senior jockey who reportedly claimed the track unsafe , DIDN'T withdraw his services for the day ?

Probably correct.......but the fact remains that grass track meetings on a Sunday are preferred by many participants ,especially of the slower battling type of horse AND the overall punter/enthusiast who seems to have more time to spare and bet on a Sunday.
Also more export betting which doesn't always happen on a Saturday .
Plus Motukarara hosts one of the the best attended meetings of the year between Xmas and New Year.

KENNEDY - held up early stages of the run home. Stewards lodged a protest against 2nd placing being awarded to the gelding alleging the horse gained an advantage by improving its position in the passing lane in the early stages. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards, Mr DeFilippi and co-owner P Cook, the Adjudicative Committee upheld the Protest and disqualified KENNEDY from 2nd placing. Driver C DeFilippi defended an associated charge alleging he had driven improperly in the early stages by improving his position in the passing lane. After viewing the replays and hearing the evidence from Stewards and Mr DeFilippi, the Adjudicative Committee upheld the charge and suspended Mr DeFilippi's drivers licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 8th December 2021 (6 days)
