Why not let the track managers do their job and stop dictating to them what needs to be done. They know their job unlike the suits doing the dictating.
If they fail they are gone....same should be said for the ones making the the decisions from above ( but they dont fail apparently )

    I agree with you 100%.
Bruce Sharrock (already) seems to be tarred with the same brush as his predecessors ever since but not included Alan Fenwick.
Sorry Bruce but that was a load of rhetoric otherwise know as waffle or crap explaining how you as a man in charge (suit) was going to fix the current, but like your predecessors can’t, because we no longer have the number of tracks at our disposable to cover our weather conditions.
Only when you realise that the dates that were in place 30 years ago based on the climate of the various areas was the only one that worked, will be, when sanity will prevail.
    NZ Cup Carnival in November.

    Auckland Cup/Derby across Christmas/New Year
Wellington Cup Carnival Mid to late January.
Great Northerns Queens Birthday (Bum sorry the hill is sold) etc
Do you think they will change the Caulfield/Melbourne Cup dates? As my Nana would say....not on your nelly!

Yes Flash, a significant portion came from the Provincial Growth Fund, although many of us still struggle with the concept of Riccarton being in the provinces. It is a fair way along Yaldhurst Road, but the provinces might be stretching it a bit.

I agree totally. It is inevitable we will lose meetings in these weather conditions. As to the AWTs, I don't think anyone objects to them as such. The Riccarton one looks great - as you would hope for $15m. The thing is, they should just be ticking away in the background as an alternative option for a certain type of horse and a handy training option. The problem comes when they are presented as the saving of the NZ Racing industry, and when you question whether they are the best way a struggling industry could have spent $50m.

They need to do a better job at rescheduling these meetings.

And look at all the money they are saving by not running the races on alternative dates/days...they must be loving it.

Classic example in the Oamaru Cup yesterday. The winner had already won over $900,000, the top weight had won over $1.1m. Many people argue they had done their dash and had nothing to prove so they should be retired. My view is they made a massive contribution to yesterday's meeting so good on their connections for placing them where they can still be competitive. If SI racing was better structured there would be a lot more horses that might end up there where they can still be competitive, and in some cases get their confidence back.
Sadly, the people in charge of such things have absolutely no idea how "tiered racing" really works.

TurnipOrange those top horses you mentioned raced in the golden years of NZ Racing. We are now in the Stone Age where horses like that race in Hong Kong or Australia.

You would have to be an absolute mad man to punt at Tauranga when the track is wet.

Pole need to point out that Matamata, Tauranga,Taupo and now Rotorua have all had meetings abandoned this season.  A programme of updating all these tracks is required, not closure.

So another meeting lost surely someone somewhere should have known this issue and either called the meeting off yesterday or moved the rail...once again the people who put on the show the owners are going to pick up the tab again and once again get shafted...when is somebody going to be held to account...its a joke...a circus.

It should. These guys are Jockey Managers who get them rides on horses they presumably think can win.
When they do, and have not been mentioned, some might question the ethics involved.

The locals are going to get a hell of a shock when they turn up on the first Saturday of GN week and its a heavy 10. The only lead ups in Canty are this week's AWT meeting and another AWT meeting just before GN week. Last week the 1,200m horses went 1.13 at Ashburton and the only other meeting in the South before the GN is Oamaru who could easily come up with a decent track. What other racing jurisdiction in the world would use AWT racing as a lead up to a major bog track meeting? Poor bloody punters trying to analyse form.
Can anyone remember when the Brabazon was the traditional lead up to the Winter Cup, and the Haldon Stakes was a sought after maiden race? Seemed to work quite well then. The Haldon often used to be split into two divisions. Thank god current leadership is so much more intelligent than to follow those old traditions.

The other thing they tend to do over there is spend money regularly renovating their tracks instead of wasting it all on stakes. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with connection and punter confidence and spending which in turn produces the money for stakes. Probably sounds a bit too complex a model for here.

One of the reasons Australia doesn't have many abandoned meetings, except in exceptional circumstances, is that they are proactive and often move meetings a day or two beforehand, and very seldom on raceday. Of course you can do that if you have a good number of racetracks. They are bloody lucky no overseas expert has ever turned up and told them they have far too many racetracks and would do miles better if they closed heaps down.

Given the current state of NZ racing I have been staggered at the inaction of the Trainers Assn. It can only mean that they are totally complicit in the actions of the current regime and support the closure of all but a few metropolitan tracks and massive investment in AWTs (although the numbers racing on the AWTs don't support that) or else they are totally incompetent.

Huey reacted to Chris Wood in Cambridge Trials Cancelled
Nothing wrong with the track, horse numbers at this time of the year dictate trial fields, and regular trials and jumpouts are now accessible with the surface.
With a few tracks out of action, there are not to many alternatives!
I can’t work out why they let TeTeko go, and what is happening with Waipa, another good venue gone west!

He's a trainer , they are his assn which he pays fees to be part of , runs their CD branch , but they are asking other trainers for a mandate to support GV . It's their job to support a paying member until such time information comes to light that makes their position untenable . I know who's being unfair .

This sums up the Trainers Assn , weak as piss . Surely they should be supporting this trainer as a matter of course without requiring a mandate from other trainers as to what action they should take . They should be throwing their full weight behind the trainer until just cause is shown their involvement in the matter is not required .
And how are trainers supposed to make an informed decision ?
