$140,000 is a bit out of this working class battlers budget! But in the scheme of things it does look a bargain! Good Luck to them!
I believe Race Cafes very own Caroline has a half brother to VERRY ELLEEGANT purchased from Karaka 2018 for $10,000...NOW THAT IS MY TYPE OF BARGAIN!

Dragon Leap was unbelievable after a slight hiccup.
Normally a hiccup of any sort is curtains but in this instance I don't think so.
Having said that, I would much rather see a NZ bred horse win the race.
For value I am with Vladivostok and not just because I am a committed socialist.

So easy for people to come on here and attack race callers. It's a difficult job and well done to them . Time to move on.

Oh and so will an all weather which incidentally will have few facilities ...I can't figure it all out.

Just shows, despite the turgid incompetence of NZ racing administration at every level, and the Racing Incompetence Units endeavors to tear racing apart from the inside, the horsemen and the breeders keep delivering the goods producing some great stock, in fact some vintage stock this year, stock so good it might be a truly great vintage.
    Jennifer Eccles
    Two Illicit
    Dragon Leap
    Catalyst
This is a great year for three year olds, those four are all brilliant horses .
Add in the old horses Te Akau Shark, Melody Belle etc.....things aren’t too bad ...look out Australia

Bizarre. Nothing wrong with that call at all. I thought Jennifer had about 100 owners, so stretching it a bit to say your old man owns it. I suppose he's an arab with a string of oil wells as well. I bet the other 99 owners are glad you never tipped it.

We are getting to the stage where SI racing is much more attractive than many northern meetings, especially the CD. Lots of small fields this week at Hastings and Manawatu. I just hope Otago makes some effort this weekend to attract the public to Wingatui. I suspect these days the clubs don't make much effort given the funding model.

I think Jennifer Eccles can win the NZ Oaks and Two Illicit the NZ Derby
With Probabeel in Australia... this year could produce some very interesting voting results for the Champion 3YO Filly Of The Year .

Add Catalyst to the mix and the result for outright Champion 3YO will also be very interesting!

Interesting that they ended up with 12 for the race with 7 noms, so they came out of the woodwork. But the 65 1,600m ended up with only 8 acceptors; compared with Wingatui where 12 horses were balloted and eliminated in the 65 1,600m.
Interesting too that the two open races at Wingatui both ended up with 8 horses rated 80 or higher and top weights at 96 and 94. Compared to the Nathans with two over 80 and a top weight of 83. Even the rating 82 stayers at Wingatui did better than that with three over 80 and a top rating of 84. So does that mean SI horses are really good, or unfairly treated in the handicaps? Serious question.
Even the fillies races are interesting. Smallish field at Ellerslie; three over 70 and a top rating of 75. Capacity field at Wingatui; four over 70 and a top rating of 78. How exactly can the Auckland race be group 3 and Wingatui only listed?

When people by a Lotto Ticket there’s only one thing on their minds - 1st Division and a chance to be a millionaire! The rich don’t take Lotto. The “last” thing on Lotto Ticket buyers minds is “community”. It’s more like New house, pay off mortgage, new car, boat, overseas trip, racehorse ownership etc. All this community minded rubbish is a hoax - fake news!

I find it amazing Trumpie how you lower yourself constantly by posting on a NZ Racing forum, I guess you just love being a big fish in a small pond. We are incredibly lucky to have you routinely tell us what dumb stupid failures we are.

You need to educate yourself on how the funding policy works,  the stakes have next to nothing to do with the sustainability of a racing club,  particularly a country club. It's this type of ignorance that dilutes the industry,  next you'll be telling us NZTR fund the maintenance and upkeep  of these country tracks and there will therefore be a savings for the industry.

Look at the RIU ....37 employees with just a couple of ex jockeys
NZTR, 40 employees and I can’t think of one who’s done anything
RITA/NZRB/Trackside, God only knows how many employees but I don’t see too many owners or ex licensees amongst that lot
Basically we have an industry lacking experienced racing people to run it....is that fair comment ?

    Have to agree.
The pursuit of self interest while abandoning fundamental principles of integrity/decency/etc is fraught with danger in many aspects of life.
Too many in our industry have followed this course of action in backing Peters - and now comes the karma.

Get real TA racing just doesn’t rely on race days.  Somebody has to produce the product to race sitting on your arse with four race days at New Plymouth doesn’t produce any horses to race..
They are investing in racing with their training and their accounts show they are doing well enough to not go down the gurgler. There are plenty of young people investing their lives training at Stratford.  Most go the whole hog broodmares to racehorses.

Writing and passing legislation is one thing. Doing something beneficial for the racing industry's survival and sustainability is another. I don't see anything in the current and proposed legislation that is likely to do that. Do you?

You don’t get it TA .   The people who established the track did it to foster racing in Stratford not New Plymouth Hawera Or the rest of NZ.

The Club is being stripped of a Raceday at Stratford  in a last ditch effort by NZTR RITA to force them to relocate and prop up New Plymouth. .

Lets face it , no Clubs are going to close their doors.
The history is still too strong and emotions raw, and there's nothing wrong with that at the end of the day.
What say we take on board a bit of Australian nous.
    City and Country Racing.
Maybe we can bump up the Stakes for City meetings and for the Country Clubs , if you aren't going to sell your tracks and assets , then be prepared for a lower tier of Racing Stakes.
Then we can see who survives and who fails but at least you have given yourselves a chance to survive.
The smaller Clubs (Country) don't need to cater for crowds so let the Racing speak for itself.
If your horse can't cut it in City grade then you may make ends meet by going through the Country grades.
I know , less Stakes but I'm sure you can make it work , ok the stakes maybe down on what they are now but let's think positively and know this system will work , working towards raising stakes if it works.
Ok, so the other side of the coin is City Racing and we can debate the Main Clubs, good grief they can sort that out for sure. The Stakes would be inherently better than what they are now and the downside is , if your horse doesn't cut the mustard then there's the Country circuit.
Hell that could even work for successful Country Clubs to maybe even make it to a City status down the line.
Here's hoping because what we're doing at the moment is simply not working.
    Rugby Racing and Beer.............
Rugby is in shit street too.
    Racing ...............say no more
Beer , yes not the domain of DB and Lion anymore is it , it's craft beer everywhere you look

You argue wrong T A  Councils would dearly love that racing continues in their districts so it wouldnt be lost to racing regardless whether it loses its raceday or not  To them its still a business for the district.
So a financial club in no way has the wolf at the door just bends over and gives their asset up.  I'm sure  track donor's / financial backers / farmers would turn in there graves if that happens  because its safeguarded in their constitutions as to what the track donor's / financial backers / farmers desire to happen
Take your arguement further  RITA want Stratford to go to New Plymouth.      NPly  Council land lease, at present the Club is in limbo with the Council as an annomally in the legal process of lessee ownership. It has been suggested by members of the NP council that the Racing Cub get the lease back for 10 yrs at the previous rent and the pay market rent after that for the privelege of racing there.    A rough estimate woud be around $150,000 -$160000 a yr.   How long would the club up there last.
Im sure the track donor's / financial backers / farmers would turn in there graves if SRC just roll over and went to NP

Avondale is not a dump. In fact the facilities are equal of any club in NZ. All one has to do is close ones eyes to the public grandstand. Due for demolition anyway.
All the boxes get ticked. Ample parking, easy back and front parade viewing, Handy bar, and view locations. All thats missing is people.
