Taken from an article in Australia we need to make this move.
Stewards across the country want to amend the rules to stop riders’ agents from having an interest in or facilitating a bet on races a rider they manage has a ride in.

Jockey managers around the country were informed of stewards’ intentions on Monday.

“The Chairman of Stewards Committee (COSC) has recently become aware that a number of riders agents have commenced providing paid tipping services after being issued with a licence by a PRA (Principal Racing Authority),” the release read.

“COSC is concerned about the significant conflicts of interest that will inevitably arise where such agents are tipping on races (and likely betting themselves) in which their clients are riding.

“The arrangements which are currently allowed pose an integrity risk to the industry.

“Accordingly, COSC recommends that riders agents are prohibited from betting on, or providing tips in relation to, races in which their clients are engaged to ride.”

There are around 100 riders’ agents across the country and Racenet believes that less than five of them offer a tipping service.

Three jockey agents, Mark Guest, John Scorse and Wayne Harris all work for Sky Racing and tip as part of their role.

The jockeys’ agents have until close of business next Monday to make submissions for or against the proposal and a “group of them” have engaged lawyer Paul O’Sullivan to represent them.

“Importantly there is already a rule in place which is AR175B which prohibits a rider’s agent from laying a horse where their rider is engaged,” O’Sullivan told RSN.

“The note indicates that an integrity risk has been imposed but there’s been no compromise of integrity identified that has occurred in the past so to an extent we’re just looking at shadows at the moment.”

The stewards’ new recommended rule – AR85A (7) reads.

Except with the written permission of the relevant Principal Racing Authority or the Stewards, any riders agent who:

bets, has an interest in a bet, or facilitates a bet; or
provides either directly or indirectly to any person for any direct or indirect financial or other benefit (regardless of whether such benefit materialises) any tip, or any other information or advice that may influence any person to bet,
on any race in which a rider whom the riders agent represents is engaged to ride commits an offence and may be penalised.

If you couldn't find Baxstreet Boy, Dark Princess & Sweepstake on the punt in those fields you shouldn't be punting. W
Would you really have backed Ozil off a jump out win in that field?

Agree with you there Huey they were handy stallions,  but any brood-mare owner trying to breed a Group One winner from either stallion and trying  62 or 108 times would be financial disaster for most.
It depends what you are happy with, those odds  or < 1 in 3

Neil, the likes of Cambridge & Matamata can’t do a good job of recording track work, so to expect a small centre to video a jump out that in all reality is of little consequence or assistance to the punter is a stretch too far.
I take little or No notice of trackwotk, jumpouts trials as they are run under such varying conditions that they are unreliable. The value of a trial win or top run is over stated and results in many horses being overbet as a result they run around at odds well under their true price.

Maybe Franco Ice trainer could of recorded for his owners since they’d of likely been in a position too? Neil since you make a living from a tipping site (which is good ) and you are so keen on getting jumpout footage from various areas maybe you could pay someone in each area to do so as it would just be a business cost ?

Have you ever run a set of jumpouts Neil or been on a committee at a Club full of volunteers?
If it means that much to you why not come up with a sponsorship agreement for clubs whereby they can video these jumpouts?
Be careful what you wish for , they are not the punting nirvana you make them out to be.

I agree punters should be given the utmost  info for punting purposes. I think most clubs would oblige in providing where possible.
However I have to agree with Puha, it's yet another job that volunteers have to find the time & resources to do amongst organising the Ambulance, vet, gate staff, caretaker, someone to do the entries and make up the fields , ensuring there are enough riders there to hold the event ,put the track back etc. By all means you should have expectations of clubs with full time staff, but those clubs that are the lifeblood of this game please cut some slack.

Yeah fair call .But likesaid there’s nothing stopping anyone popping down and videoing .Those at our local jumpouts are there for the education and safe running of the jumpouts  and generally theirs only enough people to cover that aspect .

The results from the jump outs  a fortnight ago were submitted to NZTR as required.

The results from today will be typed up and sent through tomorrow
Note that there have never been results for any Awapuni jump outs ever?
Brings up an interesting point though. There is no format required for these in the information required from NZTR. They don’t require riders to be listed, or times to be taken, so one horse could have the heavy stable track rider on and another a jockey with a 20 kg swing in the weights. They are very subjective in their interpretation

Tradition has never really been respected or appreciated in NZ racing, especially not in recent years. Every week we see races in Australia with time honoured names, and races named after famous horses. In NZ most of our races tend to have locality names, Auckland Cup etc. Very few names like The Stradbroke, in NZ. Some races had prestige through their name rather than the stake, but most have now been let to disappear; Haldon Plate at Riccarton, McLean Stakes at Wingatui, even the Chalmers at Trentham - I know it still exists in name only.
I am always appalled that there are no races in the SI named after Grey Way, Show Gate, Phar Lap etc. That would never ever happen in Australia. Canterbury Belle is probably the only SI horse to be recognised in "recent" years.

C'mon Ted youre a student of form aren't you?
When taking a bet its buyer beware i.e. you should be doing your form or in this instance your research on why the odds were enhanced or why it wasn't a good bet or was a good bet, punters who were onto it could have backed any other jock in the challenge , refunding the bets in this instance sets a terrible precedence imo .
I think there may have been a number of punters caught out on this one by the bookies and their pride has taken some denting along with their wallets.
The TAB cop a severe bashing in a lot of cases but I can't see how they wrong are in this particular instance.

How is it any different to me taking a fixed odds bet and having the fav late scr in the race and near halving my odds. I dont get the chance to cancel my bet and neither should this jockey option be refunded or changed.

How many times has Bosson had problems with his weight recently? If you're punting something you should be aware of intricacies of that bet surely? The likelihood he won't see the day out, the likelihood he won't make the weight on certain horses and so on.

How is it a ripoff by the TAB?, they obviously put the odds up in good faith that the rider has accepted rides that he can make the weight at.
I don't see it as any different than backing a horse that doesn't go on wet ground , its up to the punter to do the research on these bets , Bosson has a history of weight difficulties surely that is priced into the odds on offer by the TAB yesterday.

Whilst I don't necessarily disagree with many of P4P's comments, I don't actually think money is wasted on stakes. I think the total stakes pool is badly allocated. I was not a fan of Winston's multi million dollar races, which I seem to recall P4P supported. And I do believe we do need some aspirational races, but within reason. The problem we have is that virtually the same pool of horses race for $10,000 and $22,500 races so that does nothing to create an obvious structure of racing. And why on earth rating 65's needed to be $22,500 rather than $20,000 is beyond me. Basically, the money is just not spent wisely and there are examples of that every day.
The biggest problem with the gallops code is that there appears to be no one with any feel for racing or common-sense running things. The non racing types need to be cleaned out while the industry returns to getting the basics right.
I would be interested to hear where P4P thinks stakes money is being wasted. I presume he would prefer to see money taken out of stakes and spent building some super tracks. A bit chicken and egg really.
