Wouldn’t think so main problem is you have to have major shares in Most you race these days as only the foolhardy and passionate are left standing.

no change from $120 Puha......most of the 'top' charge about 130-150. However, and it's a huge however, running costs can be much cheaper than NZ.......raceday is a no brainer, if your horse is up to city class, the starters incentive can be 2K paid back to 10th...plus an incentive fee of 200 bucks, so, you will end up in front even if down the track......in NZ we were slugged close to 700 bucks just to trial ,[Otaki to Waverley] after the floating and ancillary costs.....our friends here kacked themselves laughing when we showed them.......that sort of thing will eventually kill of the owner over there.....instead of incentivising they are being spurned.......anyway I'm wasting electricity as it falls on deaf ears....John Messara will address it no doubt, as should the absolutely useless trainers association who have been silent for so long and now are squealing like a trapped mouse....

Don't you think Zabeel and Sir T , did it more in Aus than Savabeel has to date? He just doesn't appear to have had that may top liners like those two in Aus.

Fair point on data but.....   I would suggest a much more competitive stallion market now, lack of truly dominant stallions (Snitzel the exception last couple of years, amazing seasons!), as well as the concept of shuttling stallions taking off more, another factor to take into consideration is that these top Australian stallions are serving 200-220 mares a season!, very hard to compete with that especially at distances 1600m and below.
Savabeel has sired G1 winners of the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Vinery Stakes, Turnbull Stakes, Queensland Oaks, Victoria Derby, Champagne Stakes, Queensland Derby so doing a very good job in Australia and all at a distance of at least 1600m.
Other stats in Australia are 70% winners to runners and 8.2 stakes winners to runners, the game and the stallion market has changed so much since Sir Tristram's days, but does emphaisse what a remarkable job these stallions from the same line have done! )through in Lonhro now and Pierro into the future)

Interesting summary but there is a much bigger picture here which NZers have probably never analysed...and it doesn’t matter If it’s CJW or Dan Dinkum
For punters to invest they need good, strong, competitive fields. As we are currently experiencing here in NSW, field sizes are diminishing, owners are sending horses interstate to race...why? Several reasons....the costs are becoming prohibitively high. With energy costs  skyrocketing those who once were part of a syndicate are now not investing because income now goes on daily cost of living expenses. Trainers are also moving interstate (David van Dyk, Grahame Begg are just 2 of the better known trainers) because they can’t attract their traditional owners or syndicators.  Hence we have a contracting ownership scene where the big are getting too big. Multiple entries in one race manipulating the weights to suit....field sizes diminishing, false favourites and on a monotonous regularity the outsider gets the prize.  Punters will only put up with this for so long ...then that dollar is diverted elsewhere.  So as NSW racing is dependent on TAB/bookmakers turnover, where is the long term benefit of these mega stables? They are actually biting themselves on the bum because at this  rate the great prize money offered is not sustainable.  So, there will have to be an action which will limit the number of nominations from trainers....thus protecting the integrity of the handicapping system.  Currently it’s open to legal abuse.  See fields in Sydney this weekend for examples of what goes on...
I intend to chat with Max Presnell as I can vaguely remember something similar in the 70s and Tommy Smith being accused of manipulating the system.....
For those of you who now say “well, what about Weir?” Victoria has long been a better place to race horses because there are so many provincial & country outlets...and that’s how Victorian racing can withstand the Weir onslaught...but in NSW opportunities are not so abundant.  There are larger Sydney stables that now venture out to places such as Bathurst, Dubbo etc simply because of the prize money. This invasion is now having a detrimental effect on country trainers & owners.
This is a can of worms which I strongly believe the various racing administrators are watching but have no idea how to stop the  train wreck. Whilst we’re not at the level of disaster as NZ racing, it has the potential to cause massive ramifications for all facets of the industry. If the punter doesn’t feel he’s getting a fair go, he won’t invest. And these mega stables are killing the Golden Goose.

Time between races would be the least of the problems for the sport.
As for non race goers finding racing boring, well I"m a non moto cross goer and guess what I think it's boring .
The elements of racing that hooked me in are the same elements that will make a non race goer a race goer in the future, that won't matter based on the time in between races.

You certainly can use your computer. On which you can view the same regurgitated stories that come from the Racing Desk and NZTM. The newspapers are lazy and print what is given to them by others, the Racing Desk and NZTM. The Informant does actually make news, provides perspectives via letters and their own correspondents. Their information is widely used in Australian media, paper, radio and TV.
In my view, it is much more interesting to read fresh and interesting stories, rather than what is available on the NZTR and NZTM who I believe are under resourced for such publications.
A number of online publications charge for their information, because it costs money to generate it. So you do have to charge to recover expenses.
The way your note is written, it sounds like you are looking for a free lunch. Gen X I imagine.
    cheers

I know the sale wasn't particularly brilliant for vendors , but I've been going to this sale for a number of years and it appears to be thinning out in stock numbers and possibly has better quality than in previous years.
On the upside if you wanted to get a horse there was good opportunity to do so and let's face it a sale like this offers a lot of horses the opportunity to become racehorses rather than sit in a paddock or the alternative for the rest of their lives, and probably provides a lot of the bottom of the market an opportunity to restock.

Every year weanlings go for well less than their service fees is what I meant.
It was very quiet 1st day, perhaps a sale like this is impacted by online auctions during the year?

No doubt it has a part to play, but buyers would not be buying fillies that were 'no good' for that kind of money, they harbour serious racing ambitions and rightfully so.
They have massive residual value but are being brought to be racehorses first and foremost and have every chance to be competitive in Group races at 1600m and further especially within their age group.
There is no doubt the colts have performed better than the fillies (not disputing that, facts don't lie)  but to say they are no good is very harsh when they are running at 9.7% stakes performers to runners. He just needs to get some photos on the wall instead of placings with the good Oaks/Group 3yo fillies he is producing (Milsean, Harlow Gold, Imperial Lass etc)

No fitzy, you have it wrong with regard Dan Myers. He has said publicly that he made a conscious decision a few years ago to sell all his young stock as weanlings after several years of not doing so well selling yearlings. It would appear this year has not been so good for him ( but not a lose) but he has done really well with that decision in the last couple of years.

Miss Distinction - by Bletchencore, was a one race winner herself, but has left a couple of great stakes winning offspring by less high profile sires, Miss Jessie Jay by Spectacular Phantom, and Gee I Jane by Jahafil. She also produced The Silencer Sir by Istadaad to win nine races, plus a number of other minor winners. She was born in 1991 and had her last foal, a Super Easy colt, in 2014.

I am going to write a book, which I hope will be the first of a small series, on great nz broodmares. I have always thought there is so much more attention paid to the stallions and not the great blue hen mares. First one will be eight carat and her immediate offspring. I want to talk to people who knew the horses as I want the personal stories. I hope sir Patrick of course could be one of these but will get underway with the huge amount of research first. Would love to hear about any stories, photos anyone has. Big job I know but will be so much fun.

Lovely horse and generally speaking he should work well there in NZ.
In isolation, I don’t think his fee is unreasonable but across the board there looks to be a balancing act in front for those who breed commercially in NZ.  From what has been announced over the last few days,  there seems to be some thought amongst studs that fees must rise.
2018 would have been a year of consolidation,  reducing broodmare bands back to commercially viable numbers, in Other words, sorting the wheat from the chart...and waiting for Mr Messara’s report. But it seems Studs are putting the cart before the horse and topping up in advance.
If the 2017foal crop is the smallest in recent years, why are fees increasing?  There are so many new stallions that need to get a foothold I thought Studs would be taking the approach that they need to entice breeders “back to the fold”....and  be very negotiable with fees.
But after reading the headline in today’s The Dominion about the level of “Rip offs & rorting” in NZ, why should the decimated racing industry be any different?
