I don't begrudge anyone willing to stand a stallion or send a mare to stud best of luck to them.
No ones holding a gun to ya head to send a mare, sane was said about Eighth Wonder and many others ,  I kind of like this guy's pedigree admittedly it's gonna be hard work getting numbers.

I bougt a beautiful mare that is a 3/4 to Aimees idol for only 200. Had another go at racing her for a 4th but her heart wasn' in it anymore and that was fine by me as I mainly got her for breeding. Have to say she is the spitting image of her grand dam eight carat and has a lovely nature. So I for one am a very happy purchaser.

But the point is the site did its job and found a home for the horse, obviously the vendor just wanted out of the horse or the reserve would not have been so low. Also most of the horses on there haven't had a yearling or weanling prep they are just put on the site as is , so someone has got to spend some dosh and time educating them to that level as well so you aren't comparing apples with apples if youre looking at the Auction house prices.
Don't get caught up in the hype and BS of the GC MM sale or the K1 here its mostly BS. I agree some of the stud fees are quite high for what the end product is , but the stallion owner also has to make a quid.

Surely you'd think most of the vendors would be satisfied , after all they set the reserve . What the vendor expected to get may be more relative to cost of production than selling on a site like Gavel which may be greater concern for being dissatisfied.

I would love to see a feedback section similar to trademe, would give buyers a little more confidence I recon. I have purchased two as potential jumpers, both been exactly what i was expecting so would have given both positive feedback, one was just too slow and the other having first run around tomorrow for me.

I think you're missing the point of the Online Auction, most of the stock is sold like the May Sale , It's very well operated and there are some well priced horses available. I think the most important thing about these online auctions is that the horses are potentially going somewhere where they are being given an opportunity to be a race horse or a broodmare instead of sitting in a paddock or worse.
There has been a number of winners come out of the sales and its great to see. One thing it does do though is make you think why would you pay stallion fees when you see the price some of these go for.

Huey reacted to We're Doomed in So how would it work, hypothetically, this synthetic track?
Basically Idol what will happen is that reasonably regular racing would be scheduled on this track throughout the year, much as they do at Pakenham and Geelong. They don't stop racing at Caulfield and Flemington during the winter just because they have those synthetic tracks, and I can't recall a metropolitan Melbourne meeting ever being transferred to Geelong or elsewhere. During the winter it would provide a reasonably consistent surface just like Ruakaka does, although hopefully a fairer surface and more centrally located. It won't be some super track that means summer type horses can continue to race all year round. And I don't imagine it would be a Shatin type surface located at Ellerslie.
So in short it won't actually solve a lot of Racing's problems. It certainly won't be the great saviour that some people expect. It would just provide one tiny improvement in a currently disfunctional racing structure.

I would guess one of the main reasons for having an all weather is to provide punters with consistency of product i.e. form at the same venue on the same surface something punters can punt on with a greater degree of confidence.
I think the abandoned meetings is a side part of having one and I'm not sure how it can work providing cover for meetings that were not scheduled in that local. I mean you can't really nominate your horse for Trentham in July then have that meeting abandoned and expect the fields from that location to hold up on a synthetic surface.

I''s reflective of NZ Racing in general, what a shambles, who on earth oversees these idiotic decisions? The CEO is keeping a very low profile, surely it's all going to end in tears, and sooner rather than later......

Why not just handicap the farking things properly. It then wouldn't matter if there were 4 win drop backs or whatever.

Fark sake it’s not hard introduce some rating 65 races that exclude drop back horses or maybe two win max rating 65 races .

What a farkin' embarrassment that is. Did anyone put their name to being on the review group that made these decisions? Was there anyone that had a remote clue about handicapping? Lowering the minimum rating for open handicaps will improve the spread of weights? What are they on? Capping the number of points given to winners will make races more competitive and attractive to punters? If you want evidence that the game is rooted and NZTR have not a clue how to fix it, this is it.
As P4P suggests, it does nothing to solve the R65 congestion problem which is largely a weight spread one. Most of those horses will never win an R65 and duly give up and move on to show-jumping careers or similar. What a disaster. In fact, I wonder why I even bother commenting.

War Decree has been announced to stand at Inglewood Stud as a replacement for Zacinto (Kevin Hickman heavily involved in the ownership also of this new stallion)
A G2 and G3 winner by War Front out of a Street Cry mare, standing for $6,500

Good luck to them, hope he can have the same success Zacinto has given them.

If you think it is bad in the NI try racing a 65 horse in the south. A couple of weeks ago they balloted and eliminated 12 horses from a rating 65 at Ashburton when they could easily have run an extra race. Pointless racing 65s for $10,000 if they refuse to split them to get horses through the grades. Then at Riccarton last week we had the crazy situation of 5 and 7 horses racing in two $35,000 open races and heaps being balloted from 65 grades.
A major problem is the allocation of stakes money. Those same 5 and 7 horses at Riccarton would have raced for $30,000. All of the other non maiden races could have $2,500 taken off them as well and that would have provided enough money to run a $20,000 2yo race. I would like to know what half-wit thought it was a good idea for 65s to run for $22,500 rather than $20,000. That money could have been put to much better use.
It all comes back to the industry being run by outsiders with absolutely no feel for racing and an inability to get the basics right. And my god, most of the programmes are so boring. With all of the 3yos winning  maidens at the moment perhaps Riccarton could have put on a 3yo 1,200m rather than wasting $35,000 for 5 open milers. Give then something to aspire to. But oh no, we didn't used to do that in the 70s, no need to change things so dramatically now.

One big problem we have compared to Australia is no respect for iconic names. The Challenge Stakes used to be a major race, I remember Grey Way racing in it, against a young filly I think. Every weekend we see races with iconic names all over Australia, even at minor meetings, whereas in NZ we don't bother.
