  1. G1 placed I assume takes precendent over stakes wins & prizemoney, but youre right does seem odd.
  2. What will his fee be? Surely no more than $15k set for PI.
  3. Wow it really was CringeTV , if you didn't think things were bad in NZ racing before you will after watching this
  4. Especially when half of the media people are jockey's agents.
  5. Oh pleeeeeease whining indeed. Questions should be asked if the race is on a Saturday or Sunday and the figures look so bleak. Sometimes its the weather, the hard tracks, the cricket a clash with a 3yo's birthday party in Remuera , when does the industry say maybe the allocation of resources to this club or the structure of the club just isn't working? Wasn't Karaka Million night another betting flop?
  6. Great post! In answer to your questions no those figures aren't good enough. In some instances they are only as good as some industry midweek days and that imo simply isn't good enough given what you've outlined.
  7. So youre happy for pies and beers to be sold and for the club to be doing well out of them , so I am no complaints there. I cannot see why they can't do well out of both? Particularly given racing is the core product , is that right? They are a well funded club , with permanent employees who get a red carpet ride compared to most of the rest of the clubs in the industry - so why aren't they performing? Because of a game of cricket?
  8. Exactly Bloke , all back patting and blowing the proverbial wind, tell the people what they want to hear and hope they don't look any deeper. Any ideas on Wednesday figures?
  9. Unfortunately Centrofold its prevailing attitudes of mediocrity like this that continue to see under performance like this occur without any clear scope for change. Yes the cricket was on, so what! How long have they known that? Was it the day before it was annouced an ad-hoc game of cricket between the two countries. The point is despite all of these excuses it is the personnel in charge at the ARC or NZracing or whatever to plan for these events having an impact on their raceday instead of planning for those events to be used as an excuse. Yes its expensive to live in Auckland , so what, its those in charge job to find ways to be competitive in the industry they are in i.e. entertainment. I've nothing against anyone at the ARC , but on these figures surely someone has to step up and find out why its happened ,down big time on and off with one of the best matchups in the last 20 years in a derby that met all expectations and betting figures are this bad. - Wow!
  10. Surely no matter how many pies, how many Lindauers and how many A-Listers they got on course one of their major metrics for measuring performance must be on & off course turnover. It's massive for the industry and the club. Where are the stakeholders asking what happened? Why did it happen? Will it happen again? How are we going to remedy this for the rest of the season? Do we have the right personnel in place to be achieving these targets? These betting figures are so awful something has to have gone wrong, it can't just be the cricket(one could argue the oncourse could have been up because of the cricket, more people at home flicking channels having a bet). If these embarrassing betting figures don't set off an alarm that something has to be done there what will?
  11. Just an easy excuse the cricket, $800k off course cause of the cricket -yeah right.
  12. The point is they should be doing both, both are areas they should be achieving acceptable targets at. Cricket or no cricket , with that field down $800k is sinking boat time.
  13. I'm sure I've seen snippets in the written version that is the same as NZdesk. But anyway thats beside the point, we have several outlets for media and in a round about way they come up with the same stories.
  14. and it will all be swept under the carpet despite such poor figures and the same crowd who are dragging racing down with their under performance will continue on unabated because the cricket was on. Even worse they'll get a gig on TV as well so they can really ignore it. If you couldn't get that Derby right MK vs VSB then you'll never get one right a huge opportunity lost as the promotion of it was terrible. Should have been like a title fight build up for weeks and as it turned out it was. $800k down off course , surely something has to be said?
  15. How poor does the crowd look, plenty of room on the birdcage fence , just sad!
  16. Do you mean hard or inconsistent surfaces?
  17. What bright spark had the idea of having 3 CD meetings in 4 days? It defies belief!
  18. I think its not a bad field , some promising types in it Benzini,Show the World,King Kamada,Rock Diva,Blizzard,Graphic , Perfect Start,Surpass & Blood Brotha. Nothing wrong with that lot and as someone has pointed out often hard to look for form in a 2 mile race. The two CD horses Benzini & King Kamada look interesting runners.
  19. You must be kidding , he makes Stu off the First Call look controversial.
  20. Is this getting to saturation point? Quite often same stories appear on the NZracing site, that appear in the NZTM bulletin that appear in the local Newspaper and in the Informant, Not to mention the web feeds. What is the point of that occurring, it is probably 90% the same audience in in each publication. Is there a cost savings to be made somewhere there?
  21. Congrats to the connections of this fine horse, a deserved win yesterday in fact a great Quinella.
  22. Yeah or how they use it as a selling ploy, hey look at this September foal roll up roll up...
  23. As someone said already on this thread Marsh had some depth & reasoning in his argument , Rogerson just spoke loudly and repeated something he knew wasn't true i.e. if the race was run 100 times it would be the same result - new tui ad anyone?
  24. Most industries in this country have very intertwined networks and ecosystems but probably none more so than racing , just look at the hierarchy in paid positions in the major clubs and you'll understand what I mean. Outside of that it helps to be from outside the country so you've little chance of upsetting those ecosystems.
