Agree keep all NZ racing on the one channel and AU on the other . Keeps all,the NZ racing fans happy and it's easy flick the channel if your keen on an overseas race. Surely it's not hard for our own racing channel to put NZ racing first. Like I said that coverage on Saturday was superb let's keep it going.

It's the first time in awhile I've been able to sit back and watch the whole afternoon of racing and I 'Ve got to say was damn good coverage . 1 All three NZ meetings were on the one channel so it flowed perfectly 2 some good interviews with the OWNERS of horses at Trentham after their wins . Big thumbs up from me.

awego reacted to Los Lobos in Big owners who've walked away ....
The problem as I see it is that trainers fall into one of two categories and few are sustainable any longer.
1) The public trainer who is reliant on outside owners that are in it to enjoy but there is little enjoyment for them pouring good money after bad and they are becoming fewer and fewer.
2) The owner trainer is in it as he has a passion for horses and/or racing. Unfortunately most are not in the financial position to continue for long when costs have soared and returns are so poor that it is purely their passion that keeps them going until they cannot live with a depleted bank account and living standards that have become below acceptable.
The problem is that only those that have been in the game for years have any likelihood of attracting owners and so no one new and with enthusiasm for the game has a show of surviving and they fall by the wayside pretty quick. I think this is sad because many young potentially good trainers have been/and will be lost before they have had a shot and the time will come when there is a massive gap that cannot be filled. The good old trainers were young once and once they have gone what then. I see the large well established stables getting larger and the small yet equally talented owner/trainers are being lost.

Frank has put a lifetime into this industry, hes a good horseman and a kind heart. without people like him we wouldnt have an industry. Just because hes not a big noting trainer with expensive horses and rich owners you guys criticize. Someone has to run last, just as someone has to win each race. Get a life

Crikey Biff ya abit tough. Don't think he was having ago yesterday. Check the Kumara weather forecast. Jockey safety hows that an issue when you are out the back of field, safest place. Be more worried about being four wide outside the pace like so many jockeys were yesterday. Forgot where winning post was some of them. Guess its easy to say from the side line. I followed one of Dons last year i think it was. Went poor at Reefton Greymouth and Kumara. Kept the faith at Hokitia it raced three wide all the way and won like a favourite paid 30s. Allginga it's name. Has won in north since. They say never condemn at horse till its dead. Sum times no matter how good your horse is you've got to have conditions to suit. May improve with wet tracks. We all have the choice to back em or not. After all sum trotters break all the time and aren't competitive.

$20 to go to the races is a rip-off. More than $5 for race entry or a beer is a rip-off

This is NZ guys.
Ryan Mark is trained by another decent humble man of the land who could rightly be considered a battler.
If you deny that type of person the right to be a part of this game you're ripping at the heart of the very way this business evolved in our fine country.
Spend your time and energy getting rid of the scum dragging our game to its knees with failed strategies and useless ideas, and let the battlers be.
In the tapestry of NZ racing the " battlers " are a golden thread, on the other hand PETONE is a low brown stain.

Im sure Mr Fuge trained a horse called stormy knight to win the grand national hurdles in the 70s. Wouldn't be to many smaller trainers to achieve this. He brings a team to the Coast every year, and won with Allginga one year. This day and age we need all the horses we can get for the west coast circuit and wish all trainers and owners from north and south the best of luck on the circuit. After all they are providing the horses for our entertainment.

I recall Frank winning a race with a good stake at Trentham a few years back with the Bomber. The owners and trainers bar was buzzing after with everyone happy for Frank.
Gee that car he used to drive was like a sewing machine on wheels.

Pretty sure that's what happened to K Bomber in the end was warned by stipes about its ability to be competitive. Do remember arriving at New Plymouth about 4 yrs ago for the interprovincial pulling up at the same time was Frank in an old sigma with his mate K bomber on board out hopped Frank on his crutches and hobbled off to the boxes with his mate.To be fair the bomber did not look in the best condition but home he rolled in 1 st place. Seeing Franks wide smile and shining blue eyes was a pleasure to witness and part of the beauty of NZ racing. Something you wouldn't witness on Asian tracks I bet.

awego reacted to Midget in KFE
Detach yourselves from the anti David Eliis &/or Te Akau thing and be more subjective.
1. They've pulled off a stunning replacement strategy letting Jason Bridgeman go ( and he's a decent bloke so this is not personal ) and introducing Stevie Autridge, the reliable old and experienced operator, and Jamie Richards, they young and charming 'new blood'.
2. After some years of just going through to motions they're absolutely flying this year with numerous good colts and fillies, some bought in, some trained for studs, and they've even got a decent two year old, something that haven't had for a long time.
3. They appear to have embraced a "we are family " strategy and shifted DCE out of the limelight.
That young child was Tommy and Pam's daughter, and she's active in that stable so had some rights to get credit as appropriate.
KFE involves her daughters and family.
Jamie Richards is of very good racing stock, Paul and LeeAnne (sp?) are both superb racing people of long standing and the highest quality.
It all sends a warm fuzzy message, it's inclusive and has wide appeal, as distinct from the bullshit 'wink', "and did I tell you how much I spent on yearlings" strategy of years gone by.
4. Team Te Akau and KFE are winning the PR battle, that's a fact, they're media savvy at every level, slick and polished, and if you can't stomach that you'd better go get another bottle of bitter pills, because you'll be swallowing plenty the way that operation is going.

awego reacted to Midget in KFE
KFE is for all intents and purposes a Te Akau representative, and they trained the horse in question didn't they?
In addition she was asked to get involved in the aftermatch celebrations by the owner's representative, Rick Williams.
I know that because I was there.
I suspect you're getting too focused on KFE, maybe because she's on TV, and married to someone who's not well liked, but there's no rationale or warranted justification behind either reason.
Let it go, leave her alone, it makes you look bitter and twisted.

Really???? Have some not made idiots enough of themselves already? But wait - you say - there's more???
What's it going to be - contaminated feed? - a rogue 17 year old stablehand with a grudge? - an error of administration (wrong amount/wrong date/wrong juice/wrong horse) - faulty testing procedure so there really was no positive?
I await with interest (and a little trepidation) the outcome...
