  1. Staffers at the NZRB form a syndicate and lease a colt and a filly. They name the colt Typhoon Folly but can't decide whether to name the filly Sinecure or Cure Our Sin.
  2. A market research company randomly ring the NZRB office at 3p.m. They ask to speak to a senior staffer. The receptionist giggles and replies- half of them are overseas doing research and the other half are out to lunch.
  3. The NZRB is providing a plethora of material for jokes. To kick this thread off here is mine: Police recover a male body from Wellington Barbour. It is attired in high heels/fishnet stockings/a gaudy mini skirt/a pink top/a NZRB jacket. To spare the family embarrassment the police don't tell them about the jacket.

  5. A breakaway group could look at a circuit of racing at Te Teko and Taupo. Both have brilliant surfaces and are grossly underused as race day venues.Someone like Gerry Harvey could make a success of a project like this.
  6. Looking to England would not be a bad move. They are on target for a 6.2% stake increase this season. They have established a Horseman's Group/have adopted a "Strategy for Growth" Plan/significantly they have a strong Racehorse Owners Association headed by Rachel Hood.
  7. Jess very sorry state of affairs indeed.Hard to see any improvement coming from their stewardship.Broodmare numbers look set to plummet.
  8. John Allen on $900,000 plus.I saw weanling fillies being sold for $100 at Karaka yesterday.More will suffer the same fate today. This industry is totally out of kilter.
  9. rumpole it looks as though Barry's piece has been pulled/deleted.Stuff all we can do about it!
  10. Memphis 2 there is a Memphis Cup but you have to be a tennis player to win it! There was racing in Memphis at Montgomery Park from 1851-1906.It was closed when betting was outlawed in Tennessee.Racing has never been revived there since.
  11. porky he is still a stallion! That may explain his pre race antics.Very few horses have the ability to jump and totally relax in staying races. There is an old adage-you want a stayer to go into the gates as if the very devil is after him then you want him to jump like an old lady shuffling into church!
  12. Memphis2 if you can't get keen on American racing you should change your pseudonym!
  13. Franco Ice what is the name of the stud?
  14. Temple Tiger wins at New Plymouth.Well done Gary!
  15. High Class provided Shocking with his first N.Z.winner at Avondale today with a remarkable last to first finish. She is out of the smart mare Mill Duckie 8/23 and $233,240.
  16. Form is temporary.Class is permanent!
  17. Jason had a revealing interview with Des Coppins around midday today on Radio Trackside.Would not be surprised if he resumes training sooner rather than later but sadly it may not be in New Zealand.
  18. The 1400m races at Hastings on a good track are run around 1.22 while the 1600m races are usually run in around 1.36.
  19. Credit where credit is due.The new starting gates will be commissioned at Matamata on Wednesday. Most positive development in racing for some time.
  20. Totally agree rumpole. This race is one of the most important in the world and can have a huge influence on breeding in the future.Deserved far better coverage.Nothing at all on Trackside Radio!
  21. Ted I wonder sometimes about whether the barriers are in the correct position.Would be interested to know if tracks like Te Rapa and Hastings have their distances surveyed at all and if so how long ago?
  22. Thanks for that information Ted.Over 21 years that previous record stood! That field had a lot of depth to it alright.
  23. American Pharoah won the 141st renewal of the Kentucky Derby this morning.Fourth Derby for trainer Bob Baffert and back to back Derbies for jockey Victor Espinoza following Californian Chrome last year.I think American Pharoah can win the Preakness in a fortnight but doubt whether he will get the 2400m trip of the Belmont.Unbridled and Storm Cat in his third line may limit his stamina.
