  1. Ellerslie: The wheel is still turning but the hamster is dead.
  2. Running on home track I would think.
  3. Memo Paul Wilcox: The Ellerslie Bowling Club is at 20 Kalmia St. The nearest golf course to Ellerslie is 2km away- the Remuera Golf Club at 120 Abotts Way. Incidentally Kalmia was a handy mare by Golden Plume trained at Hawera by Herb Bergerson. She won 6 races from her 13 starts. Des Harris and Jim Walker won twice on her and Gary Bergerson and Gus Clutterbuck once each.
  4. Contentious I think the amount was 90 tonnes.
  5. Contentious their new Box number is PO Box 357, Cambridge. Perhaps they are sharing it with the local constabulary!
  6. Paul Wilcox should leave his ivory tower for a few hours and stroll to the nearest bowling and golf clubs and get FREE advice on how to grow and maintain grass. He would learn more from them than the so called "experts" on racecourse turf management.
  7. Effectively immediately the NZTR head office has changed it's address from Petone to 18 Dick St, Cambridge. Sensible move but their new address may trigger a few jokes!
  8. Certainly hope that the Ellerslie Trials today are run with any track problems. They have hollow-cored the track and sand dusted it. Not sure if the term "dusted" is appropriate seeing they have applied 90 tonnes of sand on it. Will be interesting to see if by doing this they may have created a kickback problem when they race on Saturday?
  9. Gruff bit tough on Triston Moodley's ride on Charmer. Sure having won $55,610 in stakes prior to the race she looked a top prospect. She is now a 12 start maiden. Looking for a middle distance in my opinion. Tristan did weigh in 0.6kgs overweight. Later in the day he won on Mr Mojo Risin' and the unfancied Lightning Jack. Ironic that sometimes when you bag a jockey they bounce back quickly and ride winners!
  10. Nerula another handy horse Bob Fulton raced was Ocean Bijou. He won five races trained by Ray Verner then was sold and won two Steeplechases trained by Graeme Sanders.
  11. Herculean Secretariat 1973 Belmont Stakes type run.
  12. She had a very hard run in the Vinery. Winter spell and another great campaign in the spring.
  13. I can't wait for Credit Bet Mick's spin on the Ellerslie track situation in tomorrow's Herald.
  14. I feel especially sorry for Jim Pender who travelled the furtherest to this meeting from Tauranga. Wondering if he or the Waikato trainers will get some compensation for float expenses?
  15. They hocked off the family silver ( the legendary hill) to help pay for this track "upgrade". Where is the accountabilty? Will they bring in a PR Firm to assuage the industry participants?
  16. scooby3051 maybe the Ellerslie club will dish out free fig jam sandwiches to the public at their next meeting.
  17. $55 million spent on the Ellerslie track "upgrade". Horses in R3 slipping at the crossing and top of the straight. No horses trained at Ellerslie these days so having problems with the crossing is beyond belief. Obviously drainage problems at the top of the straight?
  18. Nerula R4 at Ellerslie today has been named the Vale Bob Fulton 2100 Handicap.
  19. Foxton trials tomorrow. Nine Matamata horses entered.
  20. Ted just confirms that trainers prefer trialling on grass surfaces. Also potential overseas buyers prefer watching trial videos of horses running on grass rather than synthetic tracks.
  21. Nerula Bob Fulton owned Ocean Mist who won the 1966 Ohinemuri Cup. Ross Hunter who won the 1980 Parliamentary Handicap. Both trained by Ray Verner. Others included Tricmist who won four races- two trained by Ray Verner and two trained by Bob and Mawson themselves at Mauku. Ocean Way won twice for him trained by Patsy Riley at Pukekohe.
  22. Congratulations team Veandercross. Tipping you to be the overall winners.
  23. Mr Spyro Graeme is in the Phillipines managing two resorts.
  24. Nerula Jim was 92.
