  1. How does this work. We race in a rating 87 hanicap. We are a rating 68 but finish 13th so loose a point. Fair enough but the horse that finished 12th is a Rating 69 never lost a point. Then a horse rating 80th that finished 10 and Rating 84 finsihed 7th and neither of them lost a point even though the horses than finished 9th and 6th both lost a point. Really is there some favourites being introduced here
  2. Before lock down they were only programming 7 or 8 races buy if the nominations were heavy they split the races which meant 9 or 10 so perhaps their thinking again
  3. Went to Te Teko on a very hot 30 December day. Was over 35 degrees. Went to pre drinks and since it was so hot could not get a non alcoholic drink. It was a mess that day only food on course before race 4 were hot chips. Half the vendors did not turn up. Finding a cold drink was near on impossible. Told my trainer never to nominate my horse there again on that day
  4. Well to tell the truth I am a thoroughbred person but have good friends that are trotting people and yes as far as I understand they get paid to start. Dont quote me on that though
  5. All I know is that I am involved in Te Aroha racecourse and actually sort out the bars. We have a pre drinks area and owners get a free drink. The trots were at Te Aroha and they were asked if they wanted to do pre drinks there response was that they dint normally do it but they would try the more drinks. Perhaps I made a mistake to presume that that was the case at all trotting meetings. My bad I shouldnt presume should I.
  6. I totally agree and normally the Industry does do it well. Even the winners get a free drink afterwards but if it was Trotting there is no free drinks for pre drinks not sure about afterwards and they still get a lot of people involved in horses. As I said I do agree and if there is no owners there is no racing.
  7. They not ratings 60 though. On the web site they are rating 65.
  8. I dint agree. A horse that has had 5 starts for 2 wins is either rated 67 or 68 and they will struggle to get into fields. They are unfairly disadvsntaged
  9. So they have brought back madians and Ratimg 65 races but then all the rest go to open races. If you are on the ballot or miss out you are not assured a start at the next meeting. So how is this going to affect the horses rates 66 to 70. Will they have to go several weeks without a start. We had 2 68 rated horse nominated for Te Rapa last Saturday 1 made the field and the other one was on ballot and never got in. This could happen over again for several weeks as after Elleslie they are not guarenteed a start. The one that started got 3rd and was in a race with a lot of higher rated horses right up to rating 88. She never gained a point. Therefor are our under 70 rated horses ever go to gry a fair go and a chance of getting in fields without having to sit on the ballot all the time. If you will 2 races you go up to 67 or 68 then you hit a brick walk to try and get into a field. They need to give every horse a fair go which at this stage they are not
  10. Te Aroha on the 2nd and 23rd August. Also have some in August too I think
  11. Avondale had a reprieve I see they got raced days
  12. Oops my bad I meant when they won there 2and race they jump up to 67 or 68. Which is the bottom of the next rating band
  13. AS I see it NZTR over the years have contributed to the Clubs with funds or repairs maintenance for track and buildings and so has the community therefor why cant they come to some arrangement where they split the money. If you look at it one couldnt have operated without the other. I know a lot of people would disagree but perhaps its a way to move forward
  14. Well that did that at Te Rapa created 3 races for the 1400 2 Mdns and the rest. The problem with that is that your winning Mdns only go up to a rating 67 or 68 so then they are struggling to get a start against the higher rated horses and the jumpers who can hold onto their flat rating for ages
  15. I did notice when fields came out today that they did change a couple of the races from 14 to 16 starters. It's not much as that maybe an extra 6 horses that get a start but more importantly I think it is an acknowledgement that perhaps they havent been looking closely enough as to what is happening and how many horses are missing out. Will be watching with interest to see if they step up and add another meeting in the next week.
  16. I brought this up when Bernard was live last time on face book. I stated that because the 2 Te Rapa trials meeting were so heavy with nominations and that these horse would now look to race would they look at adding an extra meeting in the North. His answer was that they would be keeping a good eye on things. Well it never happened did it
  17. You got that exactley right. Why would we want to travel 4 and half hours to Wanganui. Are they going to pay transport costs. I doubt it
  18. Good luck with that you will be talking to a brick wall. You will get in first at Elleslie though. We will not get a start either bit there is 8 2 athat already has a start then at least 3 who are double nominated for at least 1 other race or 2 and another meeting. They have given maidens 2 races in the open and the rest 1. The split wasn't done fairly as the 2and maiden has a rating 66 in it and if course whose horse is that Mr Bella. Si he gets a start and all the rating 67 and 68 miss out even though it is suppose to be open entry nominations. Also they put 6 on the ballot come on whose going to scratch when it so hard to get a start
  19. As a owner I had 2 horses nominated one will get in but then when they split the 1400 they made a maiden 1400 and 2 open 1400. As a rating 67 we dont get in but all the maidens get a run. In other words 3 1400 are bring run and they make 2 of them maidens except for a 66 that gets in. They then put 6 on each ballot well that a waste of time to because you not going to get 6 scratching. The other thing that is frustrating is one of the horses had to trial because she has been off the track for 16monghs due to injury do this is the first meeting we could nominate for but there are horses that have already started given a 2and start. If they are going to restrict the trials then restrict the starts to give everyone a fair go. Waikato is the big horse population but instead of giving us an extra meeting now they give the CD one next week and ours is 2 weeks away at Counties. My trainer also had a horse nominated for its first start after winning a trial and that will miss out too. When are NZTR going to start looking at what races we need and using their initiative to cater for the horses. They need to step out of the past and into the future for the good of racing.
  20. Dont you think those that the Clubs should be advertising meetings that they are having. Newspapers are expensive to advertise but we do some flyers putting them in pub, shop windows and using advertise on community pages on facebook. People do see if and we often get a good response
  21. I agree. Less race meeting but bigger fields and more races per meeting. As a Industry we rely on the betting public to fund our Industry. If you had an 11 race day card with full fields compared to 2 race meetings with 6 or 7 races and fields if 8 to 10 horses which one would produce more money from betting. The bigger meeting just as Counties did. Nit only that money would be saved on costs because there would be one meeting instead of two. Win win as far as I am concerned
  22. Have you ever seen a TAB race sheet. If you had a 14 field maiden race would often pull in more income rather than a 10 field or even 14 field rating race. Secondly are you saying that only the good horses are entitled to race and that if a person doesnt oen a good horse they are not entitled to race. Think it's time you woke up a bit. A hugh part of NZ Racing is getting horses to win trials or races to sell so therefor you need the other horses for us to have a racing industry. Everyone dreams of a good horse but the reality is not everyone is lucky. If you want people to participate in the Industry you need to change your point if view that you have to be with a bug trainer ti have a good horse. Before covid the races that had the full fields or big nominations were Madison races and rating 65. As you went up the grades the numbers dropped off
  23. I think that is really an unfair statement. At the first trial meeting at Te Rapa there were nearly 300 horses go round and then some eliminated. There was not a lot of the above named trainers horses at the first trials so why should they get priority at the first Te Rapa meeting. I am speaking as an owner and as far as I am concerned I pay money to have my horses trained with a non prominent trainer but surely I am entitled to a start too. Why should the big trainers get priority over anyone else. As owners we are all pay training fees so we are all entitled to a fair go. If the class of race is inferior then it is inferior. It was fairly evident that they needed to programme another meeting when around 50 horses missed out at Counties. If originally they had surveyed all trainers then they would have realised there were a lot more horses around than they anticipated. If you take the 50 left out of counties add 150 to 200 from first trial meeting at Te Rapa then 100 odd from todays trials you are looking a 300 odd horse that could nominate for Te Rapa. Thats 18 races with fields of 16. Impossible really.
  24. Richardson Racing shut down today and sent horses out spelling
  25. I was down at Riccerton and I spoke to some locals that night and they were saying that the Race Club has been paid out the insurance claim. So what is correct as you are saying that they havent. I orginally had a horse in but he was pulled out so due to the fact we had paid airfares we still went. This year we were out the back by the big screen compared to being in stands as owner last year. It was good but also I used one port loo at 1pm and someone had already vomitted in it that was not nice. The line for the bars (outside) were huge filled with the young one but the tote lines were empty. The thing that concerned me was that people were going up and buying 2-3 cans at a time so there is no real control from the bar person as they are suppose not serve intoxicated people, They may not be intoxicated for the first can but what about the others.
